Jan 21, 2015 So where I'm from there's 2 guys who are trying to be something in rap. Without saying names... Goals/Style of Rap Being Used:Rapper 1: Wants to be a Wiz Khalifa-esque type of rapper, focuses on making music similar to the Taylor g--- affiliates. Rapper 2: Wants to be a bigger name then Eminem at his peak & be a super lyrical rapper at the same time (with substance), used to be a battle rapper but stopped a while ago. Thoughts On Their Music:Rapper 1: Guy sounds way too much like French Montana from vocal delivery to flow at times & doesn't/hasn't lived some of the stuff he's rapped about. A bit more versatile than Rapper 2 but it's really not that good to me Rapper 2: Sounds honest & relatable in his music, seems to try too hard sometimes proving he's lyrical, which may cause some to lose interest or say "this guy sounds like ____ (insert underground rapper). Hustle:Rapper 1: Despite my (& many others from my area's) criticisms, he's been able to get his name out enough to the point where he's opened for relevant names in the bay area rap scene, I think he'll be opening for Too $hort soon so I applaud the hustle. He would attract major labels faster than Rapper 2 as well just because he sounds like artists that are being pushed to the mainstream (for now). Rapper 2: Takes quite some time to release music, but when he does it get more plays than Rapper 2. But because of his inconsistency with promoting his work by internet or word of mouth, he's not getting as many opportunities to open up for anybody & people that like what he's put out so far are left asking where's the music? Occasionally, there will be an announcement of new music or a freestyle, but they didn't fall through. Conclusion: Rapper 1, while not making as good music as rapper 2, knows how to get his name out & will probably keep performing til somebody walking around with 7 or more figures buys into his music. Rapper 2, while making better quality music than Rapper 1, doesn't put in the effort to get things done to keep things moving. Does this sound like anything you see in your area with up incoming rappers or in the music industry today? Discuss

Jan 21, 2015 Local rappers from my area, not saying who ( both have a fan base <200 if that at this time), I'm just using what I've seen from both to see what others think or to broaden the discussion beyond these 2
Jan 21, 2015 I'm not disagreeing & it's most likely not going to be this guy's reality, but I do respect the thought of trying to be bigger than that. There's at least a few here and there that'll have the same ambition, regardless of how unrealistic it is.
Jan 21, 2015 I would say he's good for a starting artist as far as being strict on quality, he could have plenty of potential (not as big as he wants) but he doesn't apply himself. & that'd be an interesting idea but I didn't make this to promote either, I'm trying to have more of a why is this kind of rap artist going somewhere farther than the other when the music may/may not be as good, which applies to more than just starters. Using them as examples seemed like a good idea (in theory)

Jan 21, 2015 They both have a sound cloud, 1 I think has concert footage on youtube but like I said about the other, he's got great ambition but for one reason or the other, he's not applying himself. His youtube has songs but no visuals so it's like wtf. I remember 50 ranting about this when Lloyd Banks wouldn't do videos
Jan 21, 2015 @Mikey1990 here might be an easier way to see things. Think of Rapper 1 And 2 as Tyga & Lloyd Banks if they both started the same year & ultimately got the same results after years in the business because these 2 fit their descriptions the most imo. One's not that amazing at rapping but is a great businessman and knows how to broaden his fan base (though he's lied about some things on record.). The other loves the art & is pretty good at what he does, except he doesn't apply himself when it comes to business enough and he might have to stand next to somebody bigger than him to get his name out since he doesn't seem interested in doing it on his own.
