    Ether was great

    Takeover was great

Ether does have some childish lines that makes Takeover easily outshine it, but it done its purpose and can be classed as one of hip hops greatest diss tracks.

Not to say Nas's punchlines werent good, but alot of people prefer Ether because of the beat.

There were some really bad lines in Ether, but nobody mentioning all the great ones..

Takeover is great tho. I don't even know which diss track is better tbh.

Had Jay dropped Blueprint 2 instead of Supa Ugly that's where I would have unanimously handed him the W.

The thing I like to remember about this beef was prior to Ether Jay was literally the pinnacle of hip-hop; he was dropping hits, selling albums like crazy meanwhile still being contender for the most skilled rapper out. You don't come back from a song like Takeover, ask Prodigy how that went. Those childish lines actually got to Hov, for the first time we saw him detach from the cool, calm and collected demeanor and was visibly shaken.

Ether is overrated as f---. Very underwhelming to go back and listen to years later. Meanwhile Takeover just keeps sounding stronger and stronger.

Yeah but it's a lot more abundant in Ether. Jay actually attacked Nas's credibility in Hip-Hop, Nas had some good shots here & there but it was filled with gay jokes & what not.

What, like 5 lines (two of them actually funny) were corny. The rest was great.

The 5 Swizz mentioned plus the "aids test" line do detract from the song. Jay attacked his credibility & claimed he had an affair with his girl. Takeover was a lot more hard hitting & in response Nas comes with a bunch of gay jokes/corny punchlines, it's a bit underwhelming to say the least. Not to mention Ether's first two verses kind of beat around the bush, Nas doesn't start directly insulting Jay until the end of the 2nd verse. Takeover is a lot more direct/blunt.

Nas had to change Ether several times. The original was a much tougher diss produced by swizz beats. Look it up. Never been released though.

In an interview with This is 50, Large Professor stated the original version ofEther was produced by Swizz Beatzand the lyrical content contained in the original version was much more offensive, which even contained a line of where Nas raps, "It should've been you in that plane crash", referring to the famous plane crash that caused thedeath of American singer Aaliyah, which occurred earlier the same year Stillmaticwas released and during the time that the Jay-Z vs. Nas feud started up.
