In an interview with This is 50, Large Professor stated the original version ofEther was produced by Swizz Beatzand the lyrical content contained in the original version was much more offensive, which even contained a line of where Nas raps, "It should've been you in that plane crash", referring to the famous plane crash that caused thedeath of American singer Aaliyah, which occurred earlier the same year Stillmaticwas released and during the time that the Jay-Z vs. Nas feud started up.

As a diss yes. But as a song? Eh. I find myself skipping ether a lot.. its hard to get through the song. Its boring.

Exactly. Thats all that is needed. It has a lame Ron Browz beat but dog I remember being 8 years old hearing Ether for the first time in NYC. The amount of scrunch faces everybody had in the park listening to it is unmatchable.

I understand my perspective is different than someone who is just now hearing it but, no other diss track can matchup. It was a perfect storm. He even gave us Stan as a term.

To be fair though the original version of Ether had lines like "you should of been the plane instead of Aliyah" and a few others I can't remember. I believe the label or some higher up said to tone it down.
