Aug 22, 2015 but nelly and ja rule were never really a fair representation of rap music at the time, they were merely outliers that had pop appeal. dmx, dre, xzibit, juvenile, etc. was the sound of rap right before 50 came out
Aug 22, 2015 Again this is wrong my man. You're right if we're talking 1999 but 00-02 it was Nelly, Eminem, Cam'ron Ja Rule and Jay-Z. They werent the outliers of rap they dominated it. Xzibit had a good album in 2002 but it was an incredibly pop album compared to his previous work. Which reminds me Xzibit was doing collaboration with Limp Bizmit lol. Trust me I remember those tims vividly and gangster rap was dead
Aug 23, 2015 it wasn't dead. you had rocafella, fat joe, lox, t.i, three 6, dmx and so on. 50 just used his gangter persona differently and acted like he was the most hardcore rapper ever and then his album had radio friendly songs for girls like everybody else had. casual listeners liked 21 questions and in da club, not life on the line and wanksta
Aug 23, 2015 He's in an interesting place in his life, with the money issues and all. To me, it's his best chance in years to make something exceptional. He has that fire lit under his a--- so to me, it's very possible that he can drop a classic album one more time. Em's going to do it in the future, why can't 50?
Aug 23, 2015 None of them were anywhere close to as big as 50. At the time 50 had multiple songs charting in Australia (where im from) the other artists... DMX and Joe MIGHT have had 1 song in the top 100. 50 was running gangsta rap though and as Solo said he "revived" gangsta rap, because he made it more mainstream than we are in 2015 not 2005 Eminem isn't making a classic in the future and hasn't in a long time.
Aug 23, 2015 Well I'm expecting a Dr. Dre - Compton level album for Eminem, possibly better, as his next project. 50's broke again. He might be mad about it. He might be indifferent to it because he was once very broke. He has a good story telling opportunity here.
Aug 23, 2015 Read the thread, idiot. I never said nobody was making gangster rap. I said it wasn't what was popular and 50 never "rode the gangster rap popularity wave" into fame. Lol at Fat Joe though. Yeah looking back We Thuggin with R Kelly was a huge gangster rap record lol.
