Nov 29, 2017 Dre is in my top ten but "he made a record of okay Prince fan fiction" is not a strong argument for "he's the greatest rapper to ever live"
Nov 29, 2017 you absolutely could hmm. not sure. I think that to assume this (at least based on how I feel his work so far stacks up) you'd have to assume that he not only stays consistent, but actually drops something better than he's done so far, or at least another record that could be slotted ahead of good kid. which isn't out of the question to me, but is not something I'd feel comfortable predicting will happen.
Nov 29, 2017 Ayyy, 4:44 slander is not welcome here. Anybody approaching Jay's status in hip-hop has either floundered or died well before they could make culturally relevant music from the perspective of a 47 year old. It's a genre milestone before you even get into the actual substance of it.
Nov 29, 2017 Bruh we really sittint here saying his verse on the life in a day of benjamin andre isnt his best verse
Nov 29, 2017 Already said BIG can't be the goat with very few material at all. Those who say 2pac is the goat, I get it but Biggie has just 2 solos... And this is coming from a huge Biggie fan. Anyway, as for Jay, yeah he is really close to an objective goat. Never prefer him over Eminem but this is just me.
Nov 29, 2017 Whatever you or I think, TPAB is already his masterpiece to the consensus. GOAT discussion is subject to the tyranny of the majority. Also, just thinking, the knock against Kanye for not being a "rapper's rapper" is only being degraded. Look at what teenagers are listening to atm. He's kind of being vindicated. Our idea of what it means to rap is increasingly antiquated.
Nov 29, 2017 Big has two stone-cold masterpieces, either of which could reasonably be argued as the best rap album ever. If he had those plus four more three-mic albums no one would bat an eye. It's totally possible to call him the GOAT. It's definitely a milestone, but so is, like, Kurtis Blow. To me, 4:44 is a solid 3.5 mics, but Jay's catalog is so good that that doesn't even crack his top nine.
Nov 29, 2017 The only argument against andre isnt he doesnt have a full solo rap record but he doesnt really need one given his like 50 feature verses of renegades Jay:z has a s--- ton of trash songs trash verses, fell off multiple times, a couple trash albums And tbh does Jay z have a better album in his catalog than Aquemini
Nov 29, 2017 Honestly 3K performance on aquemini is the greatest ive ever heard on any rap record he kills every verse to point big boi, a top 20 rapper himself, looks average
Nov 29, 2017 Sure, but we're talking a very high bar here. Even if someone thinks all three Kendrick albums are 4.5s or 5s doesn't necessarily mean he's #1 yet, imo I don't think it's showing a restrictive sense of what it means to rap well to think that Kanye's abilities are probably not all-time material. (He's still a top-ten or -fifteen artist to me.) Also, lots of teenagers are listening to guys like Herbo and Kendrick and so on, and I don't think Kanye's rapping breaks new ground outside of traditional styles the way, say, Keef's did. It's just a notch behind the guys who really mastered it.
Nov 29, 2017 For a certain segment of Rap fans, he's their pick. He's in the GOAT convo at the very least but objectively, that's impossible to determine. People of different ages, backgrounds, knowledge all have their own opinions largely based on those factors.
