Mar 5, 2016 kendrick is the best new school rapper overall , he is one of the best to ever do it but there are to many rapper that he cant top when they are doing their best like he couldnt even top a long past his prime eminem
Mar 5, 2016 I was only 11/12 though, but people only started to call biggie one of the all time best a few months after his death. Even nas (who was less popular than biggie) had more respect
Mar 5, 2016 I agree with this completely. You should tell that to people who constantly say that Kendrick's discography isn't big enough. That was kind of my point. I don't really agree, but that's your opinion so that's fair enough.
Mar 5, 2016 Yep, and it was the exact same s--- for pac. I bought All Eyez On Me the day of its release, it was huge, but nobody was really calling him one of the best ever lol and a lot of magazines decided to revisit the album when he died.
Mar 5, 2016 I appreciate that knowledge. I was under the impression people were saying it when he was still alive. But Kendrick is still alive and active and there is a decent amount of people saying that he is one of the greatest right now, so he can't be completely left out of that conversation in my opinion.
Mar 5, 2016 VR nailing it again. I feel like a lot of people here are too young (also there's a lot of alts in this section ) You're absolutely right. I asked myself this question : What has Kendrick done that completely blew me away ? Nothing. It doesnt matter how many "critically acclaimed albums you have" There are more than ten rappers who were 2 years in who have reached heights that Kendrick can only dream of
Mar 5, 2016 The 90s were a different era though....we now live in a time where everyone wants instant gratification and satisfaction, where we deliberately try to give values to everything we listen to as it's happening.
Mar 5, 2016 Spin initially gave All Eyez On Me a 7/10 Then he died, and the score became a 10/10 https://books.google.be/books?id=SXQ6nPE3H9wC&pg=PA106&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false
Mar 5, 2016 I think you can find a lot of other old magazines on google books... critics weren't that huge on pac and biggie. A lot of people were fans, but nobody was really calling them potential goat, it was more of a west coast vs east coast battle.
Mar 5, 2016 and for the record, people were saying biggie was a far better rapper than pac...but then pac died and he magically became the elvis of hip hop
Mar 5, 2016 And jay-z wasn't even considered as a top 50 rapper...Reasonable Doubt wasn't poppin in 96, it was Meek Mill status. I keep seeing n----s calling it an instant classic but no one was checkin for Hov and n----s thought it was trash until Jay himself started saying that it was classic later on. But even NY media wasn't calling a great album back in '96... nobody will be able to show a link from an article or review that described RD as a classic album before Jay-Z said it was. Then there was a period in the 90's when print media and radio was mostly located in NYC and Jay-Z decided to take this opportunity to call RD a classic, dude kept saying that for months. It resulted in Regional classics from New York & Reasonable doubt being considered universal classics....
