Dec 2, 2024 I thought Ye too but really his run ended with Yeezus @ it, or arguably Life of Pablo - let's say Life of Pablo... that's 12 years. Kendrick on that rn and showing no signs of going anywhere / one of his biggest years.
Dec 2, 2024 Nonsense. Early Tyler was mostly critiqu'd as a try hard Em rip off. He was not praised anything like post Flower Boy, in the same vein by anyone.
Dec 2, 2024 Hmm. Kind of. But s--- like 'King Kunta' is all-time great music, like, transcending the genre; many classic albums don't have that. He creates unique s---.
Dec 2, 2024 Yeah and that’s just on Rap. But Kanye’s production and impact goes even beyond just hip-hop. His brand and persona is a Pop culture phenomenon in of itself. He crosses over to so much that his impact and legacy is cemented
Dec 2, 2024 Of course your only frame of reference for OF/Tyler is Eminem lol. You have no idea what the f--- you're talking about, p4k called b------ a "minor masterpiece" and gave Goblin an 8.0. If you were paying attention to OF early on you'd know that they were generally beloved and acclaimed
Dec 3, 2024 No one cares about critical acclaim and it’s a generalization at best to say a body of work, let alone album to album is “critically acclaimed” anyway
Dec 3, 2024 No that's not my frame of reference you f---ing c--- muncher. I could give a f--- what Em or Tyler say. I check general criticial consensus, from all sides. I read reviews, I follow culture, I don't get my fkn frame of reference from rappers. I form my own and read the landscape. You don't need to screenshot Pitchfork, or any reviews; I have access to Wikipedia, and follow album releases and their reactions. I've seen all that s--- and read the reviews. Don't make blind presumptions you f---ing c--- weed. Regardless of what reviews you can pull from the era - to say Tyler was acclaimed in the same light, looked at, in the same way he is post Flower Boy, in that era, is just nonsense. You can quote a Pitchfork review all you want, nobody saw or spoke about Tyler in that light. There may have been some positive reviews, but in general culture, how people saw and felt about him, spoke about him, was NOT like it is now, how critics spoke about him even - it was different. Period. He's become a friend of the left and seen totally differently since coming out, and all his material/reviews have been amped up to 'this is a masterpeice/changing music' type territory like early polo-Kanye.
Dec 3, 2024 Critic reviews =/= the culture. Literally nobody in the real world gives a f--- about music criticism. The only time they enter the cultural nexus in the big 24 are from rage-bait viral reviews and lists 2 or 3 times a year
Dec 3, 2024 Even as someone who literally is a rap writer I agree with you lol. Like 1% of listeners (if that) actually care to read criticism, I only brought it up because it's the most "objective" measure (as in there's a literal record of it, not saying p4k ratings themselves are objective) I could show + p4k/hipster blogs are the type of people you'd stereotypically think of as "woke"/leftwing and they loved that s--- — like indie heads picked up on Odd Future before a lot of rap fans did. I went to one of the most leftwing hippie colleges in the country when OF blew up and they were insanely, insanely popular. I'm telling you: a large percentage of the people who love Igor and Flower Boy are the same people who loved b------ and Goblin. I'm sure he gained and lost fans as his style changed, that happens to every artist. I think Tyler is extremely talented but I do agree with you that his music is often overrated by rabid fans online but that has very little to do with being leftwing and a lot to do with the fact that he's shown extreme artistic progression and each of his albums sounds different than the last...which isn't an inherently good or bad thing, but is admirable nonetheless. Sometimes people mistake that for automatically being a good thing. But people have been doing that since 2010. His music gets talked about in a different light because...it's a different type of music. In 2017 when Flower Boy came out we were still dealing with guys who wouldn't listen to Young Thug because they thought he was gay for wearing a dress lol tldr Tyler has always been acclaimed as an artistic genius by fans and critics alike whether or not that is deserved at any given point in time
Dec 3, 2024 i apply my intellect to everything im very smart i have a degree from a liberal arts college after all i got my BA in Eminem History with a minor in Slaughterhouse Studies
Dec 3, 2024 go into any classroom in any college/high school in 2010-2011 and there was a 50/50 chance someone had already carved FREE EARL into a desk
Dec 3, 2024 Hey, I took that Course too! Got stuck on the Revival exam, but still graduated to a Stan
Dec 5, 2024 No s---? I didn’t know that, where at? No disrespect, I still read reviews time to time, I generally keep up on Paul’s stuff, point was just that the other guy itt was using it as some sort of super important cultural thing that it obviously isn’t anymore lol
