Das my point. If the epitome of music with meaning = straight forward, simple messages spelled out for the listener most anyone else would be too complex

It really is, and its sad that is happening.
Kendrick Lamar is the perfect example of this. Rap is evolving into something very different

there is absolutely no reason to make art if youre not looking to do something new and push your medium forward

Most rappers are in it for the money tho. How many rappers have said to make it out the hood you either rap or play ball.
And most ppl doing it "for the culture" usually strike me as the ones holding on to outdated beliefs of what hip hop should be.
Theres been many rappers thats been "in and out" in 3 years that made a huge shift in the direction of the genre

Eminem, tech n9ne, logic, and Hopsin all still just rap over hip hop beats. No gimmicks. Excellent rap music with lyrics and meaning are still out there you just have to look in the right places like Eminems new album, REVIVAL.

Because I'm saying the increasing abstract approach to music and rapping is leading to songs losing their meanings?? This is not some new idea or anything

Honestly had no clue this was going to offend so many ppl

Don't think anyone is offended lol but yea it's pretty narrow minded to say the more abstract a song is the less meaning it has. Maybe it's not as in your face, but that can add to the merit of it

Irrelevant to my point and suggestion that increased stylistic liberties are leading to a loss of clarity in meaning. You're just stating a broad opinion and accepted idea that doesn't relate to the op at all lol , good job? I guess

i mean all the notable rappers do it to make money for their families but the craft is just as important to them, Thug and Future wouldn't spend their whole lives in the studio if they didn't need to make music to survive. They could easily just make some music and make the same amount of money that they do, but instead they spend day and night innovating and bettering themselves because they have a natural appreciation for art.
