Mar 4, 2017 When Russ dropped this jawn Only my blog and two other dudes posted this track for almost a year, look at the stats history the track didn't even hit 100,000 views after 2 years.
Mar 4, 2017 right, no, i've known russ for years too. but the point is the levels he was hitting before signing are nothing like what's available to him now. and if he wants to tour consistently or break songs to radio (two things he's now doing) he had to sign.
Mar 4, 2017 This obviously also has to do with his music change though, just heard about him a few months ago and he's more pop than rap really
Mar 4, 2017 d--- been using that site since 2011 and now dude making crazy money that's cool as f--- Edit: it appears I read through that post too fast, that's still cool as f--- though. RIP ATRILLI literally typed that URL into my computer everyday for almost 6 yrs
Mar 4, 2017 I am a web developer I made that site in about 15 minutes lol. Didn't really care much for the front end approach, as I've not cared a lot on my previous projects either the back end is all that matters to me. Still working on my front end capabilities. http://searchblogdownload.com this one has a bit cleaner view, also a lot newer. But think about it dude, all the label really offered him was the ability to ensure these venues being booked, the ability to ensure his connections with dudes on the radio. He could have made these connections on his own, or simply hired a manager who did this same process, without taking 90% of his revenue lol.
Mar 4, 2017 Yeah I agree, bad decision on his part but maybe he just wanted to stop fighting against them who knows, he got a 50/50 split from what I read on djbooth
Mar 4, 2017 No dude's gotta point, I seriously doubt he would be getting the number he would w/o it but it is possible, not only look at Chance but the moves OF was making before Tyler signed with sony and mac miller before signing
Mar 4, 2017 OF was highly marketable from the start, not everyone has a marketable image like they did from the get go
Mar 4, 2017 Yeah thats a good point as well, this Russ guy not only signed but he also is telling people that if they don't want to they shouldn't and can win w/o it.
Mar 4, 2017 I'll agree with this, OF was an extremely different approach especially for the era they came around if you tried that s--- now you would probably be stuck on Sound Cloud for your entire career simply because that markets now been tainted with a plague of people who sound exactly the same. One that that still bothers me to this day about OF fans is they always mention Tyler or Frank but never consider how legendary Earl actually was, and even still is, an artist like him comes around so very rarely. How-ever all and all they all had a lot of talent. How so? You do know that 90% of the promotion labels do is based off Social Media advertisements, and google advertisements what's stopping your average Joe from finding which demographics his audio would appeal too and marketing it? I'm not saying you're wrong by any means, just interested in hearing more on why your opinion is like that.
Mar 4, 2017 Don't doubt it at all man, from the start of this decade I've watched so many kids around my age blow up and now I'm watching younger kids blow up for barely trying lol That right there tells me that anyone can have success in that industry, everyone's just not gonna take the same path. Some people need labels, some people are extremely motivated self-starters.
Mar 4, 2017 During their prime I was addicted to listening to Mellowhype's Blackenedwhite. They fell off hard with Numbers but always found it disappointing that BW was really only a gem amongst at the time-OF fans. I'll admit that today the only ones from there I still find worth talking about are Tyler, Frank and Earl but I see in the past few months that Hodgy, Matt, and Syd have all put out projects and each still have a solid fan base. While I may not have ever been an actual fan of the latter two it's great to see that they've established themselves and weren't forgotten about. Edit: Forgot Domo stepped his s--- up a lot from his start too, still never listened to his debut unfortunately. Need to hear that Dash feature.
Mar 4, 2017 again, this is very very very far from reality. i cover music for a living. it's simply not the case.
