Mar 4, 2017 Being independent is the real deal. It means that you can manage yourself, promote yourself and don't need a label to put out music but it's difficult to make it big time. If you do not have any major finances then you'll have to rely on free performances which are rare but more prestigious than pay to play and in addition, you have to really hope that you'll make it big time out of the blue. With a label, it's easier that you'll win the lottery but without one, you'll be lucky if you won that large Powerball Jackpot we had a while ago. Also your rise is determined by how much you put out there and how much you promote. You also have to worry about stagnation and not being able to maintain a consistent rise... There's a lot of people who know me irl because I appear at alot of hip-hop showcases but that's only in the IE. Everywhere else (including this forum) I'm an unknown still... And there is a lot of pressure for you to pay up. I get that they want money but it feels like I have to stop what I'm doing and work 24/7 in order to gain $300 just to perform upstairs at the Airliner. The cycle is hard, people want to make music into a business but that's the problem, it's becoming less and less like a business and more and more like an experience. Music is not just a product anymore, it's a way of life which means that alot of people are going to be trying harder with no success to break into the business and you're going to feel the pressure but you know what, don't do it. It's just an empty shell of artificial plays and fake promotion. That's my take.
Mar 5, 2017 Under rated post, being an upcoming artist sucks because you literally do nothing but spend money and never see a return
Mar 5, 2017 Obviously it depends 1000% on the situation most people will say no because we're aware of bad deals but realistically anyone on here that does music would sign their life away if they had te chance it's prob 50/50 or something
