Mar 14, 2017 I do love him for his lyricism, but lyricism isn't bound to context for me. So whether it's about his daughter, his childhood, or rapping about rapping... isn't the point. To me. Great lyricism is great lyricism - and a great song is a great song. I honestly don't get my view tainted of the song by who likes it, I judge the song based on what I feel of the song's merits ; its production, subject-matter, flow etc. I judge every song the same, I don't care who likes it. My view isn't tainted of those autobiographical type songs by who likes them, if that's what you think from things you've seen me type - my view is just tainted of straight autobiographical material period, especially at this point. I just feel it's a very obvious - the most obvious - route to material, and very uncreative, especially at this point. To just go 'here is what I went through - abc' is very simple thinking to me. And some people may think by that I then want 'rappidity rap' as alternative... No. That's limited thinking to me. As if the only options are autobiographical or that. There's a billion concepts to be created, infinite stories, infinite metaphors... it's not either ''totally literal'' or ''rap about my rapping''. I'm just sick of the simplistic view that Eminem's material needs to be about Eminem. It's vain and limiting. He's done very creative things with his life material up to this point, or, more I should say on the holy trilogy, and then flashes of brilliance since then... but I just feel he's writing himself into a corner every time of needing to stretch out his latest experiences or look back (MMLP2)... That only happens when he / we accept this premise of ''it needs to be about your life, Em'', why? He's such a brilliant writer and artist, period, why does it all have to be about him, that's so silly and narcissistic for any artist to think that; not to deny ''your perspective'' is going to work itself into any concepts or ideas period - but to constantly think it needs to be a narration of experiences is so bleh. MMLP1 is a great example of him NOT taking the literal approach. Critics and even many fans like to refer to that as a very 'real' and 'personal' album, but it's not at all. He spins his life experiences into fantasy, it's as much a concept album as Relapse is - he just uses a realistic persona and more real-world and important references to spin the concept. But that's a brilliant example of using his life to fuel a genius concept, which is really impactful and long-lasting, because it's a thought through and creative idea, which isn't just a narration. ''Mockingbird'', is just narration. It's okay, but do I want such a talented writer to waste his time on that s---, at this point? No, I do think it's a waste, because it's so simple and obvious, I don't believe he has to draw very deep for that, it's almost 'least-effort' material, psuedo-depth - just because of the fact it's about real experiences... So what.
Mar 14, 2017 What would your response be to anyone who do does think it is 1 or the either of life experience personal subject matter about his life or 'rappity rap' I will tell u straight up I know many fans who feel it is a case of 1 or the other and the reasoning they have is because he doesn't go to night clubs or parties he can't make a song about that, he is white so he feels uncomfortable making songs about the police brutality and racism against black americans and he fears accusations of using that topic to make profit 'oh Eminem using this topic to profit yes he bringing awareness to this brutality more than any other artist but he gets paid from the sales it's not sincere'
