Jun 7, 2016 My list is: 1. YG 2. Kendrick Lamar 3. Vince Staples Kendrick imo is the best artist of those three, but YG makes the most compelling music for fans of the traditional West Coast sound by forward progressing a sound we've loved for decades. I don't think any other rapper from the west is in the same league as the 3 stated above.
Jun 7, 2016 No not really. TPAB is a good album that takes on an impressive scope, but it's very bloated and the more I listen to it the less it holds up. MKL I hadn't listened to for a few months, then was amazed by how good it is when I did. Just because TPAB is more complicated doesn't mean it's better - MKL takes on a much smaller scope and is much more successful at it.

Jun 7, 2016 Why? because you like it? I like a lot of albums, but I wouldn't consider half of them to be good. And why do you like it? because it reminds you of the Dre's era? That doesn't make it good. Hopsin's raw reminds me of Eminem's early stuff, doesn't mean its good.

YG accomplishes what he set out to do from the beginning while tpab (although its mission is more grand) leaves us with skits and a tupac interview that may sound amazing at first, but are actually bloated and pretentious in hind sight. Few rappers can display the charisma I love in songs like "Really Be Smoking" and "I Just Wanna Party"
