Dec 4, 2014I hit the boulevard pull up to my n----- front door
His mama at home, she still let em' hit the blunt though
I told her hello and sat with my n----- and laughed
And talked about how we gon' smash all the b------s in class
I complimented how I see him out here getting his cash, and just asked
"What a n----- gotta do to get that? Put me on"
He just laughed when he seen I was sure
17 years breathing his demeanor said more
He told me, "n----- you know how you sound right now?
You won't my mans, I would think that you a clown right now
Listen, you everything I wanna be that's why I f---s with you
So how you looking up to me, when I look up to you
You bout to go get a degree, I'ma be stuck with two choices
Either graduate to weight or selling number two
For what? A hundred bucks or two a week?
Do you think that you would know what to do if you was me?
I got, four brothers, one mother that don't love us
If they ain't never want us why the f--- they never wore rubbers?

....Oh man....I can't tell if that's real or a mockery of how people think Cole fans sound like (f--- To Zion?). If it's the ladder then....Christ I'm sure they didn't mean to come off like that....
'fake deep' basing a few lines for an entire album is meh. Cole's always said corny things like that, doesn't make him any less great to me imo. He said on Revenge of the Dreamers if the s--- ain't fun he won't do it. I just see those types of lines as him still having fun with his writing, he doesn't say things like that when he's most serious. In my opinion, Cole has remained solid and I've yet to be disappointed in anything I've ever heard from him. He does have weak tracks, but even then I don't hate those, and when I do listen to his older stuff he does sound more hungry, more aggressive to prove himself as he was getting up in the game. As far as his production goes....I will never understand that. I could understand people hating his production if he was like DJ Mustards a--- and EVERY.BEAT.SOUNDING.THE.f---ing.SAME. (I NEVER hear any criticism about that guy, wtf?) Cole could bring on Justice League or someone that could equally make a fire beat, but if he wants to do it himself, he will do it.Deadpool, Lieutenant R and Pazuzu like this. -

That college girl s--- is part of the reason why I'm a fan. Cole is comfortable for me. So easy for me to listen to and feel right while still provoking thought. I never had a problem with him not being super experimental. In fact. FHD is exactly what I wanted and conceptually lovely. I'm still in love with that album.
I wouldn't mind seeing him branch out of course. It'd be interesting. But I also won't get bored with him being comfortable as long as it's good.
A lot of artists branch out or get new producers and end up with s--- a--- music. And I'm not about that "I appreciate the creative effort" s--- if it's still s--- lol.
So if he does, it better be great. But I have faith.
Where is this album with Kendrick though? That's what I need. -

j cole in general has never made me wanna s--- my pants. i had similar feelings when cole world dropped...not a bad artist/albums, but couldn't figure out what all the hype was about. nothing to rave about, but apparently i'm the minority, seeing how he's sold so well.
...and i've given this album prolly 20+ spins by now. fair chance.Nav Bhatia, Jordan and Mike Tyson like this. -

From the last track though, I think he created this as a "rebirth" as an artist. Growth is unreal here. And yeah, there not a radio single on this joint unless you count Get off my d-ck. -

I think the industry is doing a lot of learning in regards to how things sell now. If this works for Cole, I wouldn't be surprised if we see this format more often for major artists.
