FHD was the one, if he rapped the way he did on here for FHD we'd be having a different conversation.

Word I listen top down too, but there's just not enough compelling "moments" on this album. I think that's why we were all underwhelmed first listen, until we figured out the story on 2nd listen and it came together.

I think this album is almost like a 45 minute long song (because they're so clearly interconnected) rather than 10 individual tracks.

I'm proud of him for making this album, but I think if I had to pick one major draw back, it's that.

Kind of underwhelmed by the album but I can respect what Cole was trying to do. Hope the collab with Kenny drops soon..

one thing I want to say: this post isn't meant to be a drake vs cole thing again, the only reason i'm mentioning these albums is because they were big albums in my life.

i listened to NWTS almost every day for 2 years
same with take care, i played that every day in my car almost for 2 winters straight
get rich or die trying is an album i play every single summer, and it's been 13 years now
college dropout, MBDTF, 808s and heart breaks are albums i re-visit every 4-6 months

as happy as I am for Cole to be able to finally put something like this together, i don't see any longevity wit this product. but only time will tell if that is true or not

I can see myself listening to this a lot til I get bored of it. As of now, I like the full experience I get from it. But obviously I played Deja Vu already 20-25 times so I'll listen to some songs more than the other which is natural with every album. Think this album is complex enough not to wear completely down after 30 listens.

    is it though?

there are no complex or hidden themes in this, the narrative is painfully clear (and i'm proud of him to be able to rap the narrative and not rely on skits to re-enforce it like TPAB did). so once you've taken the album in top down and digested the narrative, you've pretty much got what you needed out of it.

after that, it's just "that was a dope story cole, pls tell it again".

Word, but I personally listen to the albums for the beats also, and the production on this is deep. Pretty sure I ain't caught yet all the sounds and melodies after 10 listens. But we shouldn't be having this discussion on day 1 fam, this becoming another TPAB or Untitled isn't excluded as well :laff: I played those two projects 20 times combined.

this intro is a dope window in to depression tho, i like what he did with it

the delivery is filled with emotion, but the writing is cyclical enough to really mimic what depression actually is.

it's not quite "i feel like that" but cole will never be as good as kanye so haaaah

Only songs I kept of TPAB and Untitled was Wesley's Theory, u, You Ain't Gotta Lie, i and Levitate. I liked the production but Kendrick was so off to me, i don't understand it to this day still. Cole evolved as a producer, gotta give him credit.

dude lost me with that album completely
