So he still uses other people's bars on his throwaways? I don't see how that necessarily makes the s--- any better.

Yes I care about everything, even though I care about the deep s--- more because I care about the whole package that is Drake. I don't give him a pass. How the f--- Started From the Bottom gonna be one of my most favorite songs and me not care about him writing trap bangers? Whether he wrote it or not (which I'm positive he did btw just hypothetical) its still a dope song but it can change the amount of credit I give him. I'm not gonna give him the pop star pass on rap songs. If y'all do thats cool but I'm not doing it.

It doesnt make it better or worse but the whole situation is just kinda overblown imo. Those ref tracks were all awful and like Has and Kenneth been saying he hardly took anything from them. Took a couple bars and turned them all into hits.

Would this be defended as much if it was a rapper no one really cared for like Wale, i highly doubt it. The popularity Drake possesses really out weighs a lot the s--- a normal rapper like wale or even cole would get ridiculed for. I'm a Drake fan/stan but this will forever be a s--- stain on his career in my eyes.

Lol at Drake creating Weeknd. Drake didn't make the weeknd. He helped elevate the Weeknd. If Drake so powerful why ain't PND and Majid not even touching 70k first week? Weeknd was just that talented but Drake paved the way for sure.

I remember discussing this with Mike Tyson b4 but it really goes into how much you prefer the artist. Nas to me will always be the goat and when he was accused of ghost-writing that s--- f----- up a lot of perspectives and even had me question deeper existential issues for no reason at all.

In this case I'm glad Drake used some of those bars since the songs got exposure to a larger audience than anything that QM or PND could have reached.

If that compromises your enjoyment of the final product, then I'm sorry to hear that.

But this isn't a real knock on music, since like Ice Cube said when asked about Drake, who cares. You rate a song on the final product, not the process in which it was made. It's an issue with artists like Diddy because his album are covers of full songs made by more capable artists. This is not the same thing what so ever.

If there's a seed of doubt in your mind, and that ruins Drake for you, then I'm sorry to hear that. I don't give a f--- how many co-producers there are on J. Cole's joints, I don't care who laced the violin, I don't care who rolled the blunt, I don't care who threw Cole 3 words to help strengthen a bar, I don't care who wrote the hook.

This is standard industry practice, this is how music is made. But us being the moral judges of what is and is not allowed is funny to me. Bruh we're here to enjoy the final product, not reduce capable artists based on conceptions of how we THINK music should be made lol.

Alright after many more listens, She's Mine Pt 1 and 2 and Foldin Clothes are 3 songs I will probably never revisit. Overall a 7/10 album for me. Best songs: Change, 4YEO, and Neighbors. Solid production, lyrics, and concept. I question the replay value but we'll see. Can't wait til like a week when ppl like @Lebron187 are back on the J Cole Lost movement train :wow5:

Theres just too many examples of Drake being a great writer and handing out hits to other artists for me to get upset about a couple reference tracks.

He took more than a couple bars. Took like 6-8 bars from QM and the whole flow/cadence. I'm just saying there might be a line I love on Tuscan leather that might have been written by Hush and to me, that makes a huge difference because all of a sudden, its not truly Drizzy thats talking to me, its drizzy plus others.

so be it bro i feel like hop hop grew itself into a box where an artist has to do everything in writing other than production when other people can give u small ideas to make your vision clearer i dont see what the problem is doesnt make it any less genuine to me cause someone could pen all there s--- and it could still not be genuine

Brudda you're re-iterating my exact point.

PND and Majid are a hands off project for Drake like Cole was for Hov. He's not switching his entire brand to OVOXO like he did for the Weeknd. If you think he didn't pour more in to the Weeknd than he did Majid, then you're tripping.

I normally don't buy CD's, but I might have too. I have a good collection going with his old one's: Friday Night Lights, The Come Up, The Warm Up, etc.

6.5/10 when you realize you're not listening to this album past this month tho

This album is the best Cole has in him as a solo artist and it's still mid at best.
