Nah, that's Craig. I thought about him during the first few listens, but he's alive, didn't die at the age of 22. Cole and Craig are around the same age. The story could be fictional tho with few stories coming together in one.

Updated version of iTunes description of 4 Your Eyez Only.

4 Your Eyez Only plunges deep into J. Cole's soul. You can hear it in his voice ---- pleading, testifying, on the verge of cracking. At center stage with no featured guests, the North Carolina rapper speaks out on social ills, black lives and doing the right thing in a world of wrong. The music is settled, filled with jazz touches and strings, allowing the words to become the focus. "Neighbors" and "Change" examine imbalances and tension affecting communities of color. "Foldin Clothes" shows that even benign acts can be a source of joy. The two-part suite "She's Mine" may be the most important songs he's written, as Cole finds himself overcome by a strange feeling: hope.

It's cause production on that track is pretty mediocre. That reversed sample with drums isn't enough. That's the only track I don't like production wise tho, everything else is A1.

    Neighbours? :wtfno:

i know ur a producer thats why I'm so surprised ...

don't you think it has a great balance between being super ambient and vibe out yet it still hits hard? i agree it maybe could use an extra element at certain points but i think its meant to be really minimal ...

i was super impressed by the fact its the only beat sole produced by Cole on the album, might be one of his best beats ever if you ask me ... simple yes, but that doesn't mean it can't be good

I feel like an album like his doesn't need features especially with it being about Cole and his friend that died and how their life's sort of parallel with each other.

You right thats why both Neighbors and Immortals weak to me. Both are lacking layers af. Even if they didn't add melodies at least switch up drums. Immortals at least has the piano breakdown but neighbors lowkey needs more you right.

EDIT: Neighbors and Immortal ain't weak to me they just weaker than what they can be.

i don't mind there not being features

I'm just saying i bet he cut good songs with features just for the sake of being able to say he dropped another album without features

    thats pretty selfish to me

Neighbors is a 15 minute beat fam, and I'm dead serious. It's that easy to make that type of beat. Compared to the rest it sounds empty and I get zero feeling from it.
Nah, the album version is better and mixed good cause it would be an instant throw off to have this much distortion in final master when the rest of the album is pretty light on ears. Maybe if it was a single yes, but in the context of an album, it's fine how it is.

Man, I know it may be selfish of me, but I kind of wish Cole would do another interview with Angie or breakfast club and just talk about the album. But I know he just had a kid, so he probably could give a f--- about an interview.

I feel you but its relative. Its not that the songs are quieter even though thats part of it, its that the drums are so quiet compared to other s--- in the song, especially in Immortals. They needed to turn those drums up. Even ATO2C is mixed quiet but its still mixed right and the drums are allowed to shine. Don't know what they were thinking with Immortal. 808s don't b--- hard enough either.
