    first full listen to a j cole album, it wasnt bad, didnt catch me as much as i wouldve liked but i might give it a spin or two again sometime

    thought it was wacky that he put that intro at the end, didnt really feel that decision and some of his punchlines just s----d

    whats the consensus from j cole fans?

    It's cool to give thoughts about an album from an artist I don't really like/dislike. Listened front to back, gonna give this a few more plays before I give any real opinion

    Enjoying it much more than I expected to. To me there isn't that obvious song I'm going to skip once I play this a bunch like every other album he's released had one or two atleast

    Not a J Cole super fan or anything, but i agree on the last track. Thought it was maybe a biiit too on the nose.

    That being said, on the first listen the rest of the album was FIRE. I love lyrical rappers on "trap" beats because you get the best of both worlds. Favorite album of his for me so far.

    The Guardian gave "KOD" 4 out of 5 stars. In comparison, 4YEO got 3 out of 5 stars from The Guardian, and 2014FHD was also given a 3 out of 5 stars.

    This is very spot on. I used to listen to Cole much more in his mixtape days but his music has just become dry. I'm not sure if I also got older or his music hasn't aged the best or what. There are definitely still good songs on his albums which is why I still listen to them but the music is really lacking character at this point. He's not bad at all though. It's fine if his music isn't for you but it's not fair to call him a bad rapper or even close imo.

    Also, anyone who thinks this is preachy or holier than thou is either....

    Wanting the best for his friends who are addicted to drugs has no relation to looking down on drug users.

    Btw the girl on the outro of window pain is amazing.

    No one thinks big Sean is executing genius concepts and is too smart for the average listener. Cole executes pretty straightforward concepts that people who haven't read a book since high school understand and feel smart for getting when really it's just their brain telling them that maybe they should seek out things that make them think.

    I guess it's more like big krit. It's fine. I get why people watch it. But once you've seen 5-10 eps you've seen them all.

    Maybe "aggressively mediocre" is the correct term.
