Excuse me if I get a bit real on a Sunday. Checked out a random review for Tori Kelly's debut album on rolling stone cos my sis stans her almost to the level that most of us stan Cole so wanted to see what the general reaction was:

Tori Kelly is a cross between Lea Michele on Glee and Ariana Grande in world-domination mode: a power singer torn between girl-with-a-guitar authenticity and diva-with-six-inch-heels ascension. Her debut is full of startlingly human pop — check "Talk," with a shifting groove courtesy of Frank Ocean producer Malay, and "Expensive," where Max Martin perfects the synthetic honking-sax soul he rolled out on Grande's "Problem." But only a choir geek will suffer through the self-empowerment lectures that surround the highs. Next time: less guitar, higher heels.

Aside from the point of how good the album might actually be, from what I get told there's a lot more substance about her than the average female pop-singer. This review got me thinking about the kinda role models that females have to look up to :colerly: and what they're actually doing to get their success. I've noticed the trend in music videos from female singers which are pretty much bordering on p--- (no complaints from most of us) and how much buzz these videos generate on social media and the views the go with it. This 3-sentence one-listen review is essentially saying there's no place for females to walk around with clothes on and not sell their body to generate income. It's a trend that I've noticed for a while and even self-proclaimed empowerers like Beyonce are the worst culprits. Imo this is a dangerous mindset for young females to grow up in and for people who have daughters, u may see where I'm coming from. Anyway interested to see if any of u think the same way or even is it's that big an issue :idk:

As a male looking at this, of course most of us love to see the Rihanna's of the world wearing basically nothing most of the time. But I happen to be a fan of her music despite my strong dislike for radio. At the same time, I am a big fan for Janelle Monae. Someone who is always fully dressed, and it's all about her charisma and beautiful style of music. What I'm trying to say is, there is room for both styles of female music just like the males in Hip Hop. For this example, both Rihanna and Janelle are extremely talented, beautiful and have their own way of showing it. It's just a shame that, as you said, most females are of the sex sells idea. I certainly wouldn't want my daughter to be dressing like that at a young age. Same time tho, if we look at a song like Eminem - Who Knew, he talks about at the height of his career that parents kept complaining about his lyrics but maybe they should of been there to teach their kids of society instead of leaving them to the TV. Anyway, the internet is growing everyday and I think young girls have a chance to discover other females like Tori and not care about reviews because it relates to them regardless.

Overtime in the NFL is bs. Should be one extra full length quarter to determine the winner instead of the first team who scores

I agree. I think a lot of this falls into how a parent teaches their kid what's inappropriate and appropriate for their age. It's also important how they go about doing it. Me and the majority of the girls I know grew up watching videos vixens in rap videos, but we still understood that wasn't appropriate for us to participate in ourselves. I don't think that Beyoncé and Rih are doing anything wrong, it's the industry not allowing there to be a balance between more and less sexual performers. So young girls don't think sex appeal is their only way to success.

Agreed parents have a big role but media is so accessible now so just have to hope the youth find the right influences
