    http://2dopeboyz.com/2015/11/05/misunderstanding-kendrick-lamar-microwave-journalism/

One of the best things I've read on their site.

I know I'm not the only Non-black kid on here. I knew listening to The Blacker the Berry was a bit weird for me... and the examples that Kendrick mentions in a lot of the music on TPAB seem a bit out of my element. BUT again, I resonate with alot of what he says...

I for one... believe that the article couldn't more accurate about his album and people in general.

    Thoughts?

Yeah I think that was like the epiphany moment he was talking about on note to self. Like on sideline story he was trying too hard to dumb it down and make radio singles and it was too manufactured. Born Sinner went the other way and was trying too hard to make a crazy conceptual album which didnt match the expectations he set. Think FHD allowed him to make songs naturally with melody and more "mainstream" lyrics etc and not try hard for anything or reach for any big features

I really enjoyed this read. Great post by you fam :daps:

But this is a great critique of the media climate today, especially the internet. More of a societal critique.

I definitely vibe with the concept that people need to understand intended audience, or the lens through which an album came together through the inspirations/concepts/etc. I had already reconciled a while back that the album wasn't made for me. I still appreciate what he did with it and he definitely nailed his intended concept. There, in my opinion, are some truly transcendent songs on TPAB and there are others that a more geared toward a very narrow audience, which is dope for an artist to do on what was inarguably the most anticipated album in the genre of the last 5 years.

Don't need to love it, don't need to like it, but, if you have the capacity to process it, you have to respect it from an artistic, political, narratory, lyrical and risk-taking perspective.

That's just me. And to be clear, I still bump/bumped FHD, IYRTITL, WATTBA, Sremm Life & ALLA infinitely more because I enjoyed each of their respective listens more than TPAB, probably because they're less dense with still enough going on to keep me entertained in certain mental spaces.

Born Sinner and CW:TSS have way more reaches for radio though. There is not a single song here that seems forced in terms of mainstream to me :idk:

I'm watching the movie Brown Sugar & at the beginning, the rappers are discussing when they fell in love with hip hop. So I decided to answer that question.

It was 1996, I was 10 & I heard Nas' if I ruled the world. That's the day I fell in love with hip hop.

    Nah I'm serious! Lol

They're the most in demand alternative music group on the festival circuit. They're repped by Roc Nation. It looks like the whole lineup is Roc Nation affiliated through representation/publishing/label.

But the HAIM Sisters are dope. If you're into that genre I guess...

@JRH909 @JLim51 I co-sign HAIM. Their debut is dope. Came out two years ago and I still bump it from time to time. Very melodic and easy to listen to. Plus Este Haim is sexy in a weird way

I can't wait until December 9th when Mohammed Cole doesn't drop disc 2 of 2014FHD and tweets "Forest Hills Drive. One year. Love."

No role models, hello, gomd, and apparently are mainstream sounds to me. I'm not saying he reached or forced it but the lyrics on these tracks are def dumbed down to me. I didn't even check rap genius for the majority of the tracks

But has his lyrics ever been the kind where you have to look at rapgenius on a consistent basis?? Still the raw emotion he puts into his tracks that makes me a fan

These post FHD features in particular give me hope he has a "Life Is Good" type modern classic in him.

Dont totally disagree but life is good is not a good example. I dont think cole has the introspectiveness and self awareness that makes life is good classic. Born sinner is proof, not saying it's terrible but he didnt really do a good job of keeping a casual listener engaged.
He has a classic in him tho, might just need to be more extreme with his views and less safe.
