It takes guts to make a song like that.
I don't want to come out as a d-ck, but just hope this isn't some kind of promo for the album, just sayin'

He's been in the game since '05, not trying to make 'important songs.' Just now that he has his platform he's using it for what he believes in

d--- my college professor is on White Privilege 2... she was the only professor who was teaching a hip hop related class in college. I took a class by her during my sophomore year, and she brought in Macklemore and Ryan Lewis to talk about this exact topic (this was before he blew up, but was still poppin in Seattle underground so I knew who he was) and he held the same sort of belief. He knew just as much, if not more than my professor on the history about hip hop and how it roots. He's geniune when it comes to this s---.

Never got the hate for Macklemore for his music. Always thought it was nice and had The Heist was good. Respect this track. Wonder what Cole thinks of this lol

ever since he won that grammy he's been on an apology tour trying to get some credibility in hip hop. He apologized to kendrick (leaked the text screenshot), went on hot 97 and apologized again, made a record using old school rappers to gain some sort of respect from rap fans (song was trash) and now this song. Dude is corny imo :idk:

This was the first White Privilege song made in 2009, before anyone knew him and before he blew up. He's always been like this but because of the Grammy text and same love, n----s think its so contrived.

At this point Macklemore is in a lose-lose situation. Make pop songs and they'll call him corny. Make songs addressing the issue of his white privilege in a well thought out manner and people will say he's just being apologetic or its insincere white guilt.

I'm glad he made the song though. I think he genuinely cares and genuinely is aware, and I think the song works in that its awkward and uncomfortable, because its an uncomfortable topic to address especially coming from a white person.

I'm not trying to say Macklemore is some sort of hero because he's saying a lot of things that have already been said, but if Cole can make songs pointing out this issue of white people taking from black culture, why can't Macklemore address it as part of the issue? Wouldn't we rather him acknowledge the issue rather than ignore it like Iggy Azelea has been doing?
