TPAB took a month to master apparently lol.

But a lot of these were already mastered, they're doing final touches.

Producer side in me can't wait to hear the album. And after this track, the fan side too.
Cole himself and Mez. Said that a billion times, it doesn't sound nor clean nor loud nor crisp enough.

@Bliss please take this question, but from what I understand is that when you rap on a beat, you vocals are OVER the beat. So you have the production, and then a separate track of your raps that is over top of the beat.

Mastering takes a song and breaks it down to the components, so you get your vocals INSIDE the track, rather than ON TOP OF IT.

In the hands of the most talented engineers, you'll hear every sound and nuance in the song after they're done with it. Every underlaying vocal, every drum, every snare. If it's not properly mixed, all of the instrumentation sounds flat.

    It's like sound separation.

@KLD3816 the above is why I keeping telling everyone that they need to wait until the CDQ to form an opinion on this album.

On FML, Kanye is screaming underneath the Weeknd's hook, the whole thing sounds incredibly haunting. But you can't hear that on the stream rip, he literally ruined everyone's first listen of his album lol. And that's just one example, there are so many small things with this album that you're going to appreciate on consecutive plays.

He's never been able to orchestrate music at this level before, thats why in my honest opinion, Waves was one of the best albums in his catalogue. Now that he's bloated it to 17 tracks, and added wack joints that don't belong near any studio album (like Facts), I don't know what to expect.

It may no longer be the album of life, or it might still be, who knows. Either way my hype plummeted when I saw the updated track list.

So how much will Kanye sell then? This has all been a really messy rollout for his album but I really want to hear how the album sounds in its mastered glory. Kanye hasn't ever disappointed in that aspect.

Kinda hard to judge. Yeezus did below 300K right? Thought that was really polarizing, this one should do better but I'm interested to see where Kanye stands nowadays in rap sales wise.

Mastering is what makes the track sound above average quality in any kind environment you play it in. Either you play it on some cheap a--- 10$ headphones without bass or some great a--- car sound system. Basically it's what takes a good mix to the next level, makes it loud and live without crushing it too much to sound distorted. Average listener can't tell a difference between just mixed, and mixed + mastered song, except they'll probably notice that when they play it on 80%+ volumes, the mastered one sounds louder and liver with more energy. Cole s--- sounds like it's between mixed and mastered phase his whole career. That's cool for TWU and FNL when you don't have the necessary equipment and those pro studios, but later on it is kind of annoying to more advanced ear. But like I said, most of the people don't even notice that so.

Yup, around that mark if I recall correctly.

20 million people tuned in to the live stream from MSG yesterday apparently according to TIDAL, and then that doesn't count the people who were at work and had to check when they got home. So I feel like he's gonna do better than Yeezus for sure with this one.

I dont understand why the guy in that NPR interview said that the mastering and mixing is on another level. Never understood that. That guy is from A Tribe Called Quest so you would think he knows music. Cole wont ditch Mez for nothing. We know that.
Only way we hear a properly mixed Cole is on the collab since it will be Ali. And i asume he is the best or one of the best in the game at that.

I guess it's just competitive and stubborn side of Cole, he wants to be best at everything and I understand him :idk: Hopefully hanging with TDE camp benefited him and he maybe even let Ali mix some of his album. Although, Night Job was mixed by Ali and I wasn't impressed at all.

Never had a problem with mixing and mastering on most of Cole projects. The only projects were its noticeably not up to par is Truly Yours 1. That s--- obviously could have been mixed better.

They've just made the decision to not compete in the loudness wars and when people hear things louder in general I think they automatically think better but that's not always the case in terms of dynamics.

I personally like music better louder sometimes but I feel like it works for certain parts of FHD. The way that everything sits in January 28th (especially that kick) is perfect to me.

40 the best right now if we are talking sound/mixing/production btw. He's the only one from whom I hear a significant difference between their work and Coles work but that's also because of they have a completely different sonic direction as well.
