I want Cole's next project to be an attempt to shift the genre. All the goats have done it, and he can't be considered a goat if he doesn't release an album that has a lasting tangible impact on the genre. In the way that College Dropout, 808s, Illmatic, Blueprint, Get Rich or Die Trying, etc shifted the genre to change the way the culture at large made music, I want that for Cole because he's capable.

I never understand how y'all be saying shift the culture. Like if Cole can just be like, ima go in the studio and make a album that's gon shift something, if anything that will come naturally.

Shift the genre, like what does that even mean?

Imo FHD is going to be Cole's classic album, it's gon be remembered as the album that really put Cole on another level.

Makes his pitch to the Most Dangerous Morning show...

Good look for him, Charlamagne asked him some great questions.

Maybe Cole hasn't reached the heights he's capable of because you're holding on to his d-ck too tightly

If you're gonna criticize my thoughts, at least @ me. Don't sub reply like a punk child.

I love Cole's music, it's great in its pocket. But he hasn't benefitted the genre musically. His pen is unquestioned, but what he's done for rap MUSIC, I need more.

You're a major stan, I'd expect you to remember quotes like these bro:

"...if I can use my power in some kind of way I’m gonna try to use it to shift culture just a little bit.”

    Source: http://hiphopwired.com/2012/11/19/j-cole-says-he-wants-to-shift-culture-on-born-sinner-video/

Obviously some of it comes naturally, but making music solely in your comfort zone leaves minimal room for growth as an artist as well as minimal chance for that same music to leave a legacy.

I'll spell it out for you in toddler talk: I want Cole to challenge himself in a way that he actually could possibly fail musically. Like actually go out on a limb and try something different. All the albums I mentioned before had a level of intention towards making hip-hop music differently. Which plays into production as well as the lyrics, diliveryc etc to match. That's why him trying to do it all holds him back. Yeah he tried working with other hip-hop producers. But I want him to work with musicians and people who've not been tapped for hip-hop yet.

The whole reggae thing would be cool, but reggae at it's core fits too easily into Cole's lane already. Like it might sound different than what he sounds like now, but that's not a big jump to me. Kendrick used jazz music, Kanye used electro-pop on 808s, Jay Z used various other genres to change the sound on Blueprint.

Besides Cole & KRIT, I can confirm that Chance is my favorite rapper right now. I mentioned it a few times, but I want that EP with Cole more than any other project that is supposed to come out b.

Hasn't had a good feature or song since Diamonds Dancing and before that IYRTITL had some really great songs, but some were meh. I already had a talk with my bros that Views is probably be the start of his downfall, simply because there are to many Drake's right now who added their own s--- to his sound and he ain't as unique as he was.

not messing with the meek diss tracks or hotline bling? i get what you're saying though that his music stood out a lot more back then and that's what got a lot of people (including me) hooked on it. I don't necessarily think that his old music is better quality tho

I'm not sure what Cole's intentions are after FHD, is he still concerned with aspiring to greatness and leaving his mark on the game or is just happy with where he's at and just making music for the enjoyment and the fact that he's making a fortune doing something he loves. I know he's got greater aspirations than money but after watching the documentaries and the message of FHD I'm not sure that competitive streak is still there to try and eclipse Hov etc. He may move more into activism and bring real change to issues in society which I can see him doing. Either way it's gonna be interesting to see his next moves.

They were good, but not "5AM in Toronto", "Club Paradise" good. And Hotling Bling is alright, I'll sing that if it comes on in the club, but I'm not listening to that while being alone.
