I don't want him to be Kendrick or Drake. Do wish he'd put more emphasis on his lyrics like Kendrick does because when he's focused he's easily on par with any rapper in the game. But if Folgers Crystals and Caged Bird are any indication of whats to come lawd.

@Kold I feel like yall are taking simple and well thought out criticisms of Cole and turning it into something bigger. I like this JCN alot more than "Cole lost" JCN. People actually doing a good job of explaining what they think is missing from his music. It's easy to use comparisons to Drake and Kendrick cuz they all came about the same time. So while Drake has more commercial success and Kendrick has more critic success, those are two things many of us want Cole to achieve at their level.

But what do we, the fans, gain of he gains critical success. I don't want him to make an album like tpab where I can't bear to listen because the sound is so convoluted. I want him to make FHD where it is well received publicly and I actually have fun listening to it. Critical success is the least of my concerns when it comes to music.

well some people here (ME) def think TPAB is a better album than FHD. Critic success is not a perfect measurement, obviously, but more critical success likely means you put out a better album. Just like making an All-NBA team likely means you had a better season than someone who didn't. Now please don't take this out of context and run with it but yes, critics, other people's opinions (along with your own) is more of barometer of how "good" an album is than just our own individual opinions.

To this day, I still fail to understand why Drake thought he needed ghost writers. Like why. He didn't need writers when he made take care and nwts. He's one of the best song writers out there and a had great production team. And the product wasn't even worth. I find IYRTITL to be a very boring album with a monotonous flow throughout. Like

Fair enough can't hate on that. Even I think he can do better like I said in that post. I'm just saying this because it's common thing when criticizing Cole like he needs to morph into a different artist. Then we say he needs to be more experimental then hate on his most experimental songs (hello). Some criticisms are definitely warranted though. I personally don't feel like he has to reach Drake or Kendrick's level of commercial or critical success. The people love the music and he sells well so that's all that matters.

Yeah I disagree with you here. Already had this discussion with @Mike Tyson (hope you're still alive btw lol). Sports is way more objective. There are statistical measures of individual performance that are not opinionated along with the fact winning is something that can't be disputed.

How do you win with an album? What statistical measures do you use to rank albums. If its sales then we all know popularity doesn't equals quality and if it's critical acclaim you're just putting a high value on opinions doesn't make it's a fact one album is better than another.

Music is too subjective. That's why I take reviews for what they are, simply opinion pieces on music that have no bearing on my opinions about the music.
