Yeah this article too extra. You can't compare OVO to TDE. Even Hovs first go around at a label wasn't that successful commercial wise. Gotta give it time. Same thing with Dreaville. Dreamville numbers are trash if you compare them TDE as well and Cole superstar status in the rap game. TDE more like Death Row records an actual label head not artist run with talent that's been grinding for a while building a brand. TDE been in the works way longer too. And when TDE started they weren't selling out crazy either.

Rocafella or Rocnation? And does it matter what label they compare it to? They're saying the albums aren't even charting because they're being mysterious with their artists and giving it little promotion. I think that's the main point.

edit: Dreamville and TDE promote their artists. Their artists have shows and pop-ups and radio interviews. They announce albums months in advance. They don't do Apple music exclusives. So OVO is trying to do things different and it's not working. So that's why this article is focused on them

I agree that the mysterious promotion doesn't work. I think they should ditch that whole tactic but this article was more than that. I like Dj Booth articles but this was obviously a OVO should be doing way better simply because drake runs the label article when they are not doing all that bad. Bas did less than 10k and will probably sell less overall than PND2. Are they making the same articles about Cole? That's my point. TDE just has way better talent overall than Dreamville and OVO. That's the true reason they are selling more. They've just built a brand over time as well. Also remember section 80 did 5000 first week. We don't even know the sales for Cozz N Effect. PND 2 was only his second project and first one for sale. I'm not saying they're a great label I'm just saying the article is being incredibly critical when you could say the same for other labels.
