Finally got around to reading the Fader's story about Bas. This dude almost died a few years ago from selling weed.

One day, a customer, one of his regulars, told Bas he wanted two pounds. When the customer changed the meeting location at the last minute, he sensed something was up. So he hopped in a car with a friend, the guy who was fronting him the bud, and drove to the building. On the defensive, he left most of the weed in the car. His intuition, it turned out, was right. After entering the apartment, three men in ski masks stuck guns in his face. “It was a mess,” Bas said. “One dude was like, ‘This n----- don’t got it. s---t him!’”

With guns to his neck, he handed over the small bit of weed — an eighth of an ounce — and assured his would-be assailants he could get more. Lots more. Then, with a 22-caliber gun stuck into his backside, he walked one of them out to the car. His accomplice, observing the set-up, rolled his window down, ready to hand over the weed. The assailant put the barrel of the gun inside. “A huge flash went off,” Bas said, pausing to collect himself. “I’m thinking, my friend is dead — I mean, this dude shot him at point blank range.”

Instantly, his fight or flight response engaged. Bas turned and ran up Hillside Avenue as more bullets fired. There he was, the son of the Sudanese diplomat — all that potential — now deathly close to becoming just another statistic, another cliché.

“I’m hearing every shot hit the metal. Bing! Bing! Bing! I’m booking it, running as fast as I can. Finally, I make it to the corner, and duck into a deli. They know me there, and I’m safe, so I call my friend — praying, let this dude pick up — and thankfully, he does. He’s alive! With no money on me, I somehow persuade this cab driver to take me to my boy’s house. And when I get inside, he’s at the computer Googling: How to remove a bullet from your elbow.”

Yea, I know. Still ain't worth 20 mil. Hardly average defender with elite shot blocking ability and solid mid range game, 27 years old, can't stay healthy for more than 68-70 games. I'll gladly pass on that, and get Horford or Howard or nobody and be flexible for the next summer of great free agents. Heat ain't winning s--- anyway this year, no reason to overpay and overreact.

Whiteside was great because he had Wade to set him up on pnr, but the league is dying of a decent center so someone will offer him a max. Those blocks are getting him mayor dollar, but like you said an average defender.

I can't stand Howard, dude had all the potential in the world and didnt progress since 2010. Kinda like Kevin Love, but at least Love was given the ring by LBJ so you can't hate on that.
Every year people expect a decent year from Dwight, but he disappoints every time. Commentators treat him like he's some kind of a beast, superstar, he can't even post smaller guys no more, sad to watch.
Heat should just start Winslow at center and not give f---.

Wow, actually never thought of that, could work. But nah, Howard is still one of the best two way centers in the league but his main problem is his character. Dude ain't focused and is uninterested , he's been missing leadership his whole career. Wade, Spo and Riley would keep him in check. His only question mark is will, not skill. Too bad he rarely plays with it since that Van Gundy incident. What are the plans for Pistons this summer except Horford?

Hmm, not much since the roster is pretty much set up. From what I've read at least one PG, if this second round pick turns out to play some point then just one back up to R-Jax. And then a PF since they got destroyed by Kevin Love in the post (can't believe i wrote this ) I doubt they can lure any decent players in free agency so I guess it will be two veteran players to go with this young core. Yeah there was the salary dump with Meeks trade for a potential big contract, but like I said, no way anyone wants to go to Detroit.

They say this Ellenson guy we drafted in the first round isnt that bad, but SVG killed the rookie hype saying that we might not need his production and that there would be no pressure for him. Thanks SVG.

That's a solid core for another first round exit They have to try an make some moves tho, with this group I can't see em making a step forward. But good for Detroit, gotta build a new momentum and consistency. If they picked Winslow instead of Stanley

Yeah, I can see a slight improvement to this year, but nothing special. Its SVG, they are always trying to make something happen, they got this core for pretty much nothing, but they need a great player to take them to the next level.
Man, I'll take it, anything is good after those terrible years and no playoffs. Bad move after bad move (signing Ben gordon and Charlie V to big dollars, trading first round picks, etc. smh)
It would be the same if they picked Winslow, for now I can't see no one making it to the elite level on both sides of the court, but they are very young so who knows. I like Stanley, confident fella.
