Both Night Job and Caged Bird off ROTDII are better than this song. I like Jermaines Interude but it's not even a knock the hustle remix where he gave some of the best verses of his life.

Idk tbh. This interlude provided a lot of convo: had us debating his mindset, whether or not he's retiring etc. It made you feel what he's kinda goin through. It's a lot better than night job, but caged bird and KTH verses prolly on par. This is the kinda stuff that'll push Cole to that next level artistically, similar to be free.

Trump and the GOP are beyond ridiculous. Conservatives are so out of touch with reality

Anyone notice not too many dudes in this new generation are going the straight lyrical route? Not necessarily a bad thing cause you have a bunch a creative dudes doing their thing, but it's seeming like traditional style lyricism and bars are out of style with the younger ones rn

It's kinda why Grant stands out so much to me as he is

I don't see a lack of lyricist, but I definitely sense that lyricism isn't what's popular. Their are plenty of rappers doing lyrical music and doing it very well, it just isn't resonating with fans as much so they're not getting shine. Popular hip-hop tastes are shifting more and more towards melodic and instrumental-oriented music so lyricism isn't at a premium.

    Other than Nick Grant...

    Dave B
    Tunji Ige
    Anthony Lucius
    JZAC
    Kota The Friend
    Childish Major
    KATO
and some punk named Dae Zhen

Just a few who I listen to...

I'm not really counting anyone who's semi on like Joey Purp or Alex Wiley and the guys in that tier but there are plenty of new schoolers that are lyrical. Plus I'd put Mick Jenkins, Chance, Vic, Isaiah, Bas, Cozz, .Paak, etc. in there but they're not as new and are pretty popular.

Huh hadnt heard any of those dudes besides Zhen and Major. But as for Chance Mick etc. I wouldnt throw them in with the new gen. You could argue Cozz and .Paak though

I do it mostly by age as far as categorizing dudes, because they've all mostly been making music for the same amount of time, just some of them blow up quicker than others. But I get what you mean. My catergories of generations are broad I guess.

Definitely check out Dave B's album 'Tomorrow'. The whole thing is produced by Sángo. It's fire.

And Tunji Ige is loosely classified as a lyricist only because he's a capable rapper. He's pretty all over the place with his style. Check out his 'Missed Calls' EP or 'Prince of July' mixtape.

And all the other guys have mostly loosies on their soundclouds.

I realize i have different taste than sum of ppl in here but these are just a few modern rappers who are clearly lyrically talented (and popular) in a traditional way. But yeah i agree with what johnny was saying.
