    i don't understand how chance is getting these ESPYs and Nike spots. he's not that big imo. something has to be going on. i hate the term industry plant, but he's popping up on SNL, the ESPYs, Nike, Apple Music exclusives, etc. something just don't seem right. :khaled:

    Chance been a plant bro. I love the guy and his music, he represents Chicago really well, but it is what it is.

    Plant is a lazy term..super super privileged might be the right way to say it. I've never cared to read too much into it cause I like his music so it doesn't bother me how or why he came up.

    It's hard to explain, but an industry plant is basically somebody a label 'signs', and let's that artist grow as if they're indy.

    Chance dropped 10 Day, which definitely gave him a buzz, but not the type to be able to get big features like Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, Gambino, Lil Wayne let alone go on tour with Eminem/Kendrick/Macklemore at 20 years old.

    Then you get to 2016, he drops Coloring Book, the 2nd project he dropped through his Apple deal (Surf in 2015), he's getting huge TV spots (ESPY's Ali tribute, Nike Basketball, SNLO). It just doesn't add up for somebody this young in the game to have these types of opportunities and who claims to still be unsigned.

    @Poohdini has it ever crossed your mind that him not being signed makes it easier to book him? Like Nike doesn't have to pay all these middlemen and chance can take less than Cole and Drake because it's all profit. Gambino, Bronson and Soulo werent all that big when they appeared on acid. Chance is just an unsigned Cole or Drake which he's proven through his music. Only difference is we're so used to labels controlling everything that we're just skeptical that pure talent can win out

    ok. i have no idea if that's an actual label or some album exclusivity s---. like i have no idea what they make money off of. but if they do make money off his endorsements, and they're helping him and it's known that he's signed with them then that kinda defeats the whole argument of a plant. but whatever. i just wanted to see where this convo was headed.

    Chance is that big, y'all just don't realize because he's not releasing albums for sale and we are not seeing the first week numbers.

    If he dropped today he'd do at least 200k first week.

    Man, this. I'm just lol-ing at someone asking Drake to do a concept song like this. Kendrick and Cole could do it but it would be hard to match the crossover feel with the singing
