Anybody feel like J. Cole could promote his album a little bit more? Cause it's 2017 and Cole should be piratically everywhere at this point.

He isn't trying to Promo this album it seems. Just let his fans hear and it's on to the next one

d---... We don't really deserve this SXN we earned back. How long before the next album? Not saying this because 4YEO is bad, in fact it has the most unique production and most intricate lyrics that J. Cole has ever done, it's just we're letting @Mike Tyson down.

I'm assuming we should get a new project soon that he'll hopefully try to promote. Rewatched that Eyez documentary and there were a lot of songs cut and "Promo" that was planned but didn't happen. Regardless, whatever type of project he releases next is gonna sell + bring in traffic.

bro you can't be let down if you have 0 expectations :kobe:

4YEO is a 6/10 (at best) album, while also being cole's most focused effort to date. it's unremarkable, unoriginal, and absolutely uninspired.

say what you want about trap music vs "real music" or whatever lane cole occupies, but artists like the migos have had more of an impact on this genre than cole is capable of. take any 10 artists, and 6 of them have borrowed flows first invented by the migos and that's pretty well documented.

cole is a mid artist for dusty fans who feel that his music best fits in to the conception of what they believe rap music should be. and there aren't too many people in that lane. it's kendrick and him. cole being the more accessible one will forever have the undying support from a fanbase that is too dense to accept or listen to music beyond the framework of what they feel like music should sound like.

i'll give him the credit for FHD (which aged horribly) but with that album considered, cole is 1 for 4 as far as studio albums go. not sure how i could be disappointed with the activity in a section dedicated to an artist of cole's calibre.

I didn't have zero expectations... I was just saying that because people are going to assume I don't like 4YEO and that album is his most comprehensive album yet. Neighbors is my s---.

I like both trap music and "real music" whatever they call it, have no preference though I put real music in quotes because people who call it that are usually unaware and unwilling to accept new music in their life.

Album is a light 7/10 for me, but THIS. Cole's time has passed due to his inability to do anything new, outside the box. Dude is still trying to re-create his 2010 sound in 2017. He still has major following, but his sales now point that it will dip also more and more time passes. Music evolves every year, especially genres like hip hop and pop. If you don't evolve with it, you fall off and are replaced.

Over-generalization of people that listen to Cole. Don't understand the trap vs real music thing either but the Migos comparison doesn't prove your point imo. Migos are dope in they own right and T-Shirt my favorite song of the year but their influence doesn't negate the fact that Cole still drops dope music. I don't listen to Cole because I feel like thats what the genre "should be." I listen to him because he's makes dope music that is in my opinion authentic and compelling. Again its all opinions, but the framework of hip hop allows for n----s that listen to Cole one minute and bump Future the next. The over-generalization of Cole's fan base due to twitter (although it holds some weight because there are some pretty cringe worthy Cole fan opinions) doesn't serve well in this example and isn't much different than me over-generalizing young thug fans as people that don't care about lyrics/songwriting and only care about music that "bumps in the whip." That s--- would also be an inaccurate portrayal.
