I've definitely got all of them up there, I'm undecided, but I think what Leonard brings on offense and defense has been masking the fact that the Spurs have been overachieving. They've won a lot of close games and I've seen plenty, and a lot of them come down to mistakes from inexperienced teams, luck of the bounce, or Leonard/Mills coming in clutch. I'm interested to see how that plays out in the playoffs, I still think they're top 3 in the league but their individual pieces are probably of lesser value than that of Cleveland/GS/HOU.

That's tough. There's no doubt Lbj improves his team the most. I think I saw stats that showed almost every teammate shoots better from his passes than anybody else's, and it's all because of his court awareness and impact. Still, his team isn't top 3 in the league by record and I think voter fatigue is a big deal. Most media members probably see LeBron resting a few times a year and taking it easy a few others and that's enough to keep him out of the top 3, which this year includes some historic individual seasons.

All valid points. It's always a battle of defining what MVP really means. Westbrook and Harden do the most, but for Westbrook it's hard imagining him winning MVP if his team is only 7th or 6th in the conference. Leonard and Harden probably have the lead in the way the mvp voting has gone historically.

For sure. If there's ever a year to bring value back into the equation though, this could be the year. Whoever wins it this year will deserve it nonetheless

(As I speak Westbrook is bringing the Thunder back against the Blazers with a 50+ performance)

Westbrook doesn't have a chance cause his team is ultimate trash. Reminds me of '09 D-Wade season. At this point, Harden is the clear front runner, with Kawhi, LeBron, Thomas and Westbrook trailing in that order. For me it's between Harden and Westbrook, but if Westbrook had a chance, I would still give it to Harden. He's been the best player all year, not just last 2 weeks like Kawhi. And Cavs already have 20 losses so that puts dirt on LeBron's case.

I basically agree with you but I would give the slight edge to Kawhi now.

He's shooting over 4% better than Harden on 2s & on 3s, 4 less turnovers per game, and is still the best defensive player in the league. Has a higher PER and his team is 5 games ahead of the Rockets.

It's still super close and I wouldn't be upset if Harden got it, but Kawhi gets the nod right now for his game winning 3 and block on Harden the other night, as well as the stuff I said above.

My top 5 MVP would be
    Kawhi
    Harden
    Westbrook
    Lebron
    John Wall

KD would be 4 if he had stayed healthy.

I agree, but Harden has to basically do it all for his team and his usage rate is ridiculous, hence the turnovers (same as Westbrook, although Westbrook sometimes has bad decision making). Kawhi doesn't have to worry about getting his teammates involved. His job is to defend the best player, score and close, and he's doing that at elite level. He never had more than 7 assists in a game tho. I was a Harden "hater" cause he never worked on weaker parts of his game and was one dimensional player, but this year he changed all that and turned an average franchise which was slightly better than KD-less Thunder around.

That's fair, but are the Spurs other players really that much better than what Harden's got in Houston? Aldridge is easily the best of the 2 teams, but aside from him I think the rosters are pretty similar. Spurs are better, but I don't think it's by a such a big margin that it takes away from Kawhi's MVP case.

You're right on the playmaking, but I'd argue he makes up for that with his effort defensively.

But Kawhi has the best coach of all time. Harden has the coach who built his name on genius of Steve Nash, and was a trash can on Lakers and Knicks. Harden made D'Antoni philosophy "do what you want on the court, but make sure we s---t a lot of 3's" genius, like Nash. I'm pretty sure Spurs would still get 25-30 wins in a season without Kawhi just based of Pop, but I can't see the Rockets getting more than 20 wins without Harden.

Idk, I'd argue D'Antoni is a bigger part of James' MVP run than Pop is to Kawhi. Pop is the greatest of all time, no question about it, but Mike turned Nash into a 2 time MVP in an era where Kobe/Shaq/Duncan/KG were all in their primes. I love Nash but we're talking about a guy who averaged 14-8 for his career and was a back to back MVP, mainly because of the system he was in.

Harden - Westbrook - Kawhi - LeBron in that order. I think Harden ends up winning but it's dope to see such a close race for MVP

Who had a more impressive run as in dope hits, popularity and charisma...Nelly or Ludacris? :thinkinghmmm:

Overall I'd say Nelly. He had so many radio hits. I prefer Luda but no doubt that Nelly was huge back in the day
