Study: Eminem and J Cole Among Least Repetitive Rappers

According to a new study, among all mainstream rappers to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, Eminem and J. Cole have the greatest tendency to be non-repetitive.

OK, so what the h--- does that mean?

In order to determine which artists tend to consistently make both the most and least repetitive music, the talented folks over at The Puddingrecently analyzed the repetitiveness of a dataset of 15,000 songs that charted on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1958 and 2017.

Using the handy Lempel-Ziv algorithm, which essentially highlights repeated sequences, The Pudding determined that the number and length of a repeated section in a song, like a chorus or bridge, could produce a compressibility percentage. The higher the score, the more repetitive.

Among the 15,000 analyzed songs, the median repetition across all genres was 50%. Hip-hop and country music were found to be the least repetitive genes, while pop and rock were found to be the most repetitive.

As it pertains to Eminem and J. Cole, the pair only has a combined four songs (out of 41) north of 50%—Eminem's "Superman" at 56% and J. Cole's "Ville Mentality," "Work Out" and "Deja Vu" all between 54 and 56%.

By comparison, Kanye West has seven ("Fade" is the highest at 65%), Drake has six ("Find Your Love" is the highest at 66%), Jay Z has five ("Roc Boys" is the highest at 55%), and Lil Wayne also has three ("How to Love" is the highest at 62%).

Facts. What is facts also that they'll get to the Finals without having to play against Nurkic, Hill, Parker and now Kawhi. All game changing players when on the court. Their ring will be a fluke just like 2015 one when the same happened.

I agree, but none of those teams when healthy can knock out GSW in 7 game-series. I dont know if its a bad or a good thing that they wont get tested until the Finals.

As much as Leonard has shown his worth, I just can't agree with your point about the Dubs. They would've dispatched the Blazers in no more than 5 even if Nurkic was healthy, and beaten the Jazz in 6 with Hill and Gobert healthy from the get-go. This is a supremely talented team. They did come back 3-1 against a healthy Thunder team last year, and were up 3-1 on the Cavs before choking. Obviously they've gotten lucky to be healthy and face teams that haven't been as healthy, but very few times would it have changed the outcome.

I think this Spurs series is truly the only lucky one outside of the Cave finals 2 years ago, but that was evened with last year to be honest. I think the Spurs just have the perfect formula and mismatch to exploit the Warriors lack of interior size and their mental lapses. I've always thought the Spurs were the toughest team to face for the Warriors but it sucks Leonard is out. This one was truly lucky - the others, not so much.
