fair points. Personally I like digging into the deeper meanings of the albums and uncovering the different aspects of the stories and how the themes tie in together. Putting in that work makes the experience feel more rewarding which is why I like born sinner more than most ppl. It's always crazy when u hear a little adlib or sign of a double meaning on ur 30th listen which completely changes the meaning of the song or something, it's like the music is still delivering something well after u though u knew everything about it - hiphop albums are pretty unique in that sense. I think T&Y will have a lot of that and will be like the gift that keeps on giving. He said he was trying to paint a social portrait of the album and it'll be great to unravel it, if I get the time lol

I totally respect what you have said and your opinion. I love 2014FHD as much as the next person, but I would be blind (personally) if I thought this and Joeys album was better than Tetsuo and Youth. I feel you on the textbook flow but that word for it suits the structure and style of the album and the rapper Lupe. The man is a genius to me. The way the album is structured with the seasons and with the instrumentals for each couple of song under each season fits so well. Lyrically it's just mind blowing. I personally love the double meaning and that what keeps me going back to albums because I can always learn something new. Cole has always done this for me but Lupe's is on another level. The meanings of the chorus for Adoration of the Magi and the Deliver will last long for me and makes up for the minimal fluff. And the fact you could listen to the album backwards for a new perspective is again why I have it over 2014FHD. Cole is my favourite and I've listened to the album more, but if I had to choose which is better, it's Lupe's. Joey's is just filling third in comparison but on its own very good listen.

Both are good albums, but both require listening too at different times. Let me put it into context a bit, I listen to Lupe's album on the way to work & Cole's album on the way home from work.

Despite FHD being a large improvement than his previous 2 albums, it still lacks that sucker punch to make it a great album. And I personally think that Cole will always be that sort of artist. He can delivery loads of jabs, but just can't get that final blow. The album itself is very strong because it runs on a theme. So all the songs fit on their accordingly, it leaves little room for error or song misplacement. The album itself was constructed very well, which is why it's a cohesive album.

I was a bit too swift to call Lupe's over Cole's without any initial reasoning. But putting it into context a bit more, I personally think that Lupe's has more of what I want to hear in Hip-Hop that Cole's album but that could purely be because of the state I am in right now in my life. Conscious, always wanting to learn, interested in philosophy, history & physics. That's the s--- Lupe's talking about, but in the form of rap. And that appeals to me a lot. However, there will be a time where I wanna sit back and vibe the f--- out which is where I'll stick on Cole's album.

What I liked about Cole's album is that because there was no singles and hardly any info about it, there weren't any premeditated thoughts nor judgements made, especially on JCN where we would have analysed & crucified a single if he went down that route. No expectations, no disappointments.

Lupe's album elevates the genre. Conscious but with a twist. But he does it with such an art that no other musician can touch him imo. Powerful guy.

2014FHD: Just hitting an 8/10
T&Y: 8.5/10
