I think this is the take and frankly if The Fall Off doesn't reach that bar it will be a disappointment. His magnum opus is the bar they've set. Let's say that the new skill that he is really flashing here on this tape is the intricate writing and rhyme schemes. For The Fall Off to be his opus he needs to take that writing with him and incorporate it into everything that made him J Cole. Content, relatability, fearlessness, pick your words. You know it when you hear it. The difference between The Sideline Story era and FNL is this it factor. And we and he all recognized when he got it back on FHD.

For The Fall Off to be his opus, the music needs to make you feel something like FNL/TWU/FHD, be at the technical rapping level he's been displaying in the feature/Offszn/MDL era, have the sonic mastery that he's had from KOD and beyond, have songs that work individually as stand alone hits but then also need to fit neatly within however he tells the story of The Fall Off. So I don't think these songs hit that bar because it's a ridiculous bar to hit but clearly Cole didn't either because they didn't make the album. I do think from like strictly marketing standpoint it would be smart to explain what exactly this project is ASAP. Could even be a caption on an Ib IG post. But like is this supposed to be like The Offseason and The Fall Off is now a year (or more) in the future? Is this an EP like what Truly Yours was to Born Sinner? Are they leftovers? Are they unfinished and that's why you "might delete later"?
