Why do you think it's fallen off so bad? I know every generation hates on the next. Totally normal. No doubt back in 2010 era, the older generations were hating hard on Dot, Drake, Cole, Rocky, Tyler etc etc etc. But time proved that it was a golden era for the genre. Feels like something happened, tho, and the cavalry never came.

I don’t think things have fallen off quality wise, but popularity wise things have fallen off because the big figures of this generation died. XXXTENTACION, Juice WRLD, Pop Smoke, Lil Peep, etc. were going to lead the new generation. That was a massive blow to modern rap that we still haven’t quite recovered from. We still have newer rappers popping off like Ice Spice, Yeat, Jack Harlow, etc. But if you’re looking for lyrical rappers they’re gonna be in the underground. Lyrical rap just isn’t popular with the new gen unless a particular artist first pops off with something that isn’t lyrical rap

Great response man. X was him for sure. Juice showed he had it with the freestyles, I can't do his songs tho. Pop definitely had the it factor. Lil Peep wasn't for me.

It’s a shame. I’m still sad about X’s death sometimes. I haven’t seen a rapper as passionate about his fanbase since then. He can’t be replaced but his energy will live on and inspire other rappers. Right now I’ve mostly been seeing his influence in other genres besides rap though. Hopefully it expands back to rap in a big way.

Some more here: Saba, Joey Badass, Denzel Curry, A-F-R-O, J Hus, Loyle Carner

It’s a bit of an arbitrary metric when some people get their shine 10 years after they start. A lot of the future GOATs are probably rapping right now to a few hundred streams a month lol

This is what I mean, some artists only get going in their 30s whereas these have already had long a--- runs & they’re still in their 20s

I think Cole Stan's would have a hard time.e enjoying most of these.

Cole took a path similar to Eminem where he mainly appeals to people who don't really like rap music.

True, but since he asked me for rappers in their 20s that I think are good that’s what I provided. If it was just what I think Cole fans would like I’d probably just put redveil and Mavi
Good point. I said something similar to this before but Cole’s apology really set this in stone for me that it’s a thing

Raps the only genre I really listen to like that and Cole's my favorite. But I'm only one man.

I got into Cole in 09' because out of all the blog rappers of the era, he was the most like the rap music that I grew up on. I was a Game stan in high school which makes this beef talk all the more amusing to me.

That’s good to hear. It sucks when people only listen to one artist

I discovered cole in 2010 when he premiered who dat on 106.. back then rap was in a lil weird space, coming off the ring tone era, I won’t feeling a lot of s---.. cole was a breath of fresh air.. I grew up listening to pac, Nas, DIPSET, Wayne was my favorite at the time, but he was locked up, I remember that s--- vividly.. I seen that who dat video, been hooked to cole since.. ain’t really had that happened with no other artist since.. maybe because im older now.. and these rappers coming out now younger than me, so im not gon feel that no more lol. Think I was in the 11th or 12th grade when I first got into cole..

Its a combination for sure. This era reminds me of that time a lot. I was expecting this golden era to pop out of nowhere. Pray it happens again but i'm not seeing it

I was talking to my niece bout rap .. I got fhd and GKMC vinyl in my room.. she like coming in my room, I notice she be looking around and s---.. she 14 she into s--- I was into alaround that age.. she told me she binged listened to GKMC in class one day. That s--- lowkey amazed me, cause GKMC dropped in 2012, she was born in 2010… that’s like me discovering illmatic at that age, cause I was born in 1992, illmatic dropped in 1994.. I told her, I was like that album dropped in 2012, that’s Kendrick only classic lol

I'm '89 so close enough. I think on balance getting older is great but the b---- of it is that it's just impossible to connect with new music like that. Having said that if another 19 year old came through and dropped an Illmatic I'm sure I'd recognize the greatness.
