That's a fair point, but I still think that's the point. Humanizing these women imo is not necessary to get this point across like I just stated and it's not supposed to come off as pressing social commentary. These are the type of things the type of observations you would make talking with your homies on a way to a party to f--- these hoes. It's a hypnotically yes. They are generalizations but as humans we generalize, all rappers including Drake and Kendrick generalize. He already did the objective, uplifting, feminist song with Crooked Smile and he humanized girls on that track because that was his intent to show them their true worth. I understand if you think it's weak, Im just saying the song was crafted in this manner intentionally. He's self-criticizing in the process.

Being a black man, I Get Up by jermaine, that last verse by far, has evoked the most emotion out of me than any track of the three new legends.

Marvin's Room makes me laugh and I'm a female. I don't know, I just don't get too moved by Drake's emo s---. It makes him come off as a hypocrite, especially when you get into some of the moves he makes.

@Kold, you've heard Kendrick's old stuff? Heart pt. 2, Faith, Vanity Slaves, I hate You (that whole KLEP), Ignorance is Bliss, etc. I don't think Cole and Kendrick are all that different bruh

just speaking about subject matter and invoking feeling man. Kendrick is a better rapper than Cole AND Drake. That wasn't the point tho

Tbh the only track I've heard out of those recently Is Heart Pt.2. I probably need to brush up on those other tracks and maybe I'll see it differently.

I think she was implying that it's not genuine considering drakes track record with women since then or something

But, like, that should have no effect on the quality of the song (as you know)

I just didn't wanna get into all that lol

that song was made like 4 years ago. not to mention people certainly change over time based on life experiences but yeah, should have zero effect regardless

I never said that he wasn't a human nor did I say that he doesn't have feelings, I just said that it doesn't touch me and I don't take it seriously. Most of the songs that Drake gears towards women do absolutely nothing for me in terms of emotion. I was far more moved by "Too Much" and than I was moved by Marvin's Room or any other female driven song. I do love "Find Your Love" though.

Marvins song is such a better song than too much lol, and I'm not talking about what gender it's geared towards. That shouldn't play a role in objectively judging music.

***Flawless is one of my favorite songs of the year, who's that "geared" toward? Lol

Plus, I think Marvins room is geared towards simps such as @Hasman and myself more than anything :drake2:

But in terms of emotion, I get way more out of "Too Much". I guess that's just my personal preference. It's really one of the standouts on that NWTS album.
As far as ***Flawless goes, I just think it's a fun song. I like it too. I take it for what it is; nothing more.

Oh and Marvin's room is definitely for the simpin a--- folks!

Don't take me the wrong way. I actually like Drake and enjoy his music A LOT.

Appreciate your analysis here. But I disagree that humanizing is not important to get the message across. Here's why: he is showing himself as someone with depth and layers and is self-critical... all of those things show him as a human. He writes the women as either a good girl or hoes from reality shows , both of which are one dimensional, show no depth, and are inaccurate descriptions of women. There is no self-realization. He doesn't say "hey women have layers too and are sometimes a good girl and sometimes a hoe." What i'm trying to say is that without him expressing that women, too, are multidimensional and hypocritical as well it misconstrues the message of the song and the message becomes one of any other misogynistic song.
Cole has time to get there though this just wasn't it.

    EXACTLY.

Not to emotion that saying that he caters to those other women on tracks like Crooked Smile is part of the problem as well - it looks like he think there are only two types of women that exist in the world.

Drake used to be good at adding narrative to the women on the other end of the line, but even he's gotten lazier/worse at that recently

    Rae Jean schoolin these n----s
