Be Free is progression though. Same with the production and lyrics from Note To Self, St. Tropez and Hello. Also, the production and structure of G.O.M.D.

Cole proved he can do more than just rap on a beat.

be free was the best song he released in 2014. That s--- showed artistry/emotion and i wish he made an album based off that song. Love yourz also a great track where hes actually talking about something important. FHD was dope but it was him returning to his safe zone as opposed to venturing in to uncharted territory. :idk:

Oh, you meant in terms of subject matter.

What do you think he should tackle next album?

my biggest problem with this guy is his lazy verses and uninspired writing. Also, i basically wanted him to make the album that kendrick is about to drop. @Mike Tyson and i talked about it, kendrick is dropping the album we thought cole wouldve dropped. Be free, showing up to ferguson, and all those tweets he put out showed he was really affected by all the s--- going on. Wouldve been amazing if he made an album about that s---, instead he decided to rap about a much simpler and safe topic.

Yea looking at this movement he's going for reminds me of exactly what you said, hopefully the music gets accepted for being good not just because it's from Kendrick. They did talk about their plans for awareness right around the time FHD leaked. I think the subtlety of FHD was a good career move it brought back credentials and made us believe that he can make a good album, just got to continue to build up from there.

The biggest winner in all this is still Cole tho, cause he did it first. That was the difference from everything he has done before. He didn't follow this time, he was the leader. That's why he will sell out arenas, go platinum this time and is finally a superstar, dude finally made a bold move in his career despite that move not being 100% bold. That's why I can go over some lazy lines on the album, the impact was more significant. Same as GKMC :idk: Kendrick can still drop a better album than him tho.

@Kvp187 Sounds like you just want Cole to be Kendrick tbh. What Kendrick is gonna do with this albums will be special but it doesn't mean Cole's music is any less important. Not every socially conscious artist gotta be a political activist. And y'all keep talking about progression like FNL and TWU sound like FHD. I've never heard these complaints about sonic progression that people bring up with nas and he didn't have to go left field and still showed progression like Cole.

People are forgetting he had already gotten the concept and begun making FHD well before Ferguson. Given, the issues existed well before Mike Brown was killed. I believe Cole will end up making more politically motivated music based off of songs like Be Free and what he's been talking about in his interviews. He's definitely capable of making an album that will cover those topics and be impactful. Also, I would definitely expect the collab album with Kendrick to be that way, as he said working with Dot allows him to get more political in his music in one of his interviews from a while ago. The only issue now is that it looks like he's following Kendrick's lead if he releases a project that is similar in content to what it looks like To p---- A Butterfly will be. But like Kold said, the message of FHD is just as important and can have impact in ways a more political album wouldn't because the content is more universal yet touches similar concepts from a different perspective.

I think FHD was well executed and fine the way it is. Plus Cole has always touched on topics about social issues in his songs. From Lil Ghetto Ni**a to Sideline Story to Be Free to the following:

"What's the price for a black man life? I check the toe tag, not one zero in sight, I turn the TV on, not one hero in sight unless he dribble or he fiddle with mics"

FHD is way more universally relatable then something like Be Free tbh.
