Lmao i knew y'all weren't gonna like this new Kendrick too much.

I hope this is the future of Hip Hop. I've been waiting for Hip Hop to embrace Jazz like this. The genres have so many parallels, I'm surprised it's taken this long for a major MC to venture out into this sound. The production on this album is sublime.

Lyrically, I gotta say I thought Kendrick was going to GO IN with the social commentary and he barely scratched the surface. Hopefully, fans don't write this off as solely a Pro-Black album because it's not, imo. I thought that's what it was going to be so I was initially disappointed, but there's a more universal message here that I appreciate. I love the way Kendrick patiently built up the "I remember you as conflicted. . ." mantra throughout the record. The most insightful moments of the album were those interludes for me. Story wise though this album feels a lot like GKMC, just on a grander scale, so I don't get why some people are complaining that it's missing what GKMC had.

This dude took 2 and a half years to create this? I don't get it. I listened to it 3 times, and had to go to Rap Genius after that to find out what the h--- he was rapping about. "If You're Reading This It's Too Late" was trash after first listen, but on the second s--- was dope as f---. What happened future GOAT? :mjcry:

What? Hip Hop has embraced Jazz a long time ago, we're talking decades. There's even an entire genre called Jazz rap, where have you been?

    And a more modern track:

Sonically this album is on point it celebrates a lot of past great artists, I heard some nice James Brown and Earth, Wind & Fire in some of these songs. And I'm definitely on the same boat as you as the narrative is applicable to every culture, we all need to look deep inside us and find the solutions to unite and find inner peace. My gripes were some of the hooks/voices felt uncomfortable to listen to and it felt way too laid-back for me. Nothing is as bad as the weak links on GKMC but nothing blew me away like the high points from GKMC.

this is basically exactly what i think about the album. Its more consistent than gkmc, but theres no standout 12/10 tracks like gkmc had.

This album made me realize that cole is the one in the middle of the spectrum of rap. He's in between Kendrick's complete soul stuff music and drakes mainstream stuff.

Notice a n----- said a major MC. :thankful:

I've been listening to Glasper and a lot of other Jazz Rap artists for a while now. For some reason it has never broken into the Hip Hop mainstream though. Hopefully Kendrick changes that.

Thanks for the tunes though, definitely gonna check these artists out :khaled2:

How Much A Dollar Cost is the flow I love from K Dot, it's almost effortless just like Sing About Me

I hate making this inevitable comparison since the odds were stacked as h--- trying to live up to a debut like that. I like that he went for another concept album as well as the clear message he got for us.

ATCQ, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers and a bunch of other groups that consists of emcees were big and mainstream, watch the documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest if you want to gain more insight in the scene at that time
