So Dr. Dre and Eazy E arent legends, arent competitive cause they had ghostwriters throughout their whole career?

Nah they are definitely still legends, and Dr. Dre is definitely different because even though he wasn't writing most of his bars he was producing entire albums, which most artists don't.

Regardless one of the reasons I don't put Dr. Dre Top five is because he didn't write most of his own stuff.

Will Drake not writing a few songs change the fact that he's gonna go down as a legend? Absolutely not. But if this continues to be a trend, personally it will hurt my view of him as an all time great.

They would still be legends. Legendary performers. They delivered in those songs, but in my opinion if they didn't write it, they aren't and shouldn't be mentioned among the greats who actually do write their own material, wouldn't you say that's unfair to them?

Dr. Dre's a legend for his impact. He's wayyy more more than an artist..you know that. Neither aren't mentioned in the pantheon of best rappers. A legend and best rapper are two different things my man. Drake's already a bonafide legend BUT if the accusations of him using a ghostwriter for the majority of his illustrious career prove to be true, he'll be placed in the legend group along with dre, easy, diddy, etc. not in the group with Jay, pac, big, nas, etc.

Most of people consider Kanye as the greatest artist ever in hip hop and he didn't write his own s--- too. Great music is great music. No matter how it came along. I wouldn't be bothered if I found out Cole didn't write "I Get Up" or some classic songs like that, it won't change the fact how song resonated with me and made me feel when I heard it. Same for Drake s---. Being an artist is much more that writing the stuff down and then recording it. It's about delivery, how good and comfortable you sound on beats, where you place your adlibs, etc. Nas or Jay can write you a singing hook, but they can't sing it for s---. Does that make them a better overall artist than Drake is? Being competitive back then and right now are 2 different things. Back then the only thing that mattered is go in the booth, be lyrical as f--- and push the record out. Being competitive now in this day and age is about being the most popular, selling the most albums, touring and performing in front of thousands of people, creating a new sounda and trend, etc. Rap music is the mainstream genre right now, so there is no pure rap artist among those heavyweights. Drake ain't a pure rap artist, Cole ain't a pure rap artist, and Kendrick ain't a pure rap artist. So why would we treat any of them like they are Nas, Hov, Pac, Biggie?

You have valid points here brother. For me though, it matters. If I found out Cole didn't write his music, it would hurt me. Couldn't look at him the same. I have an emotional connection with Cole's music because he's genuine. All the s--- he's been rapping over the years..if John Doe wrote that s---, Cole would be a fraud in my eyes and I wouldn't listen to him again. That's just me. Can't get down with a façade. Drizzy can't be the gawd if someone else writes his bars. Period. He makes great music but the music doesn't belong to him. (If it's true)


I wouldn't defend Cole if he used ghostwriters. I'd take all subjectivity out.

I think fraud is too harsh cause music is entertainment first and then everything else. And Cole surely has some lines that aren't true, but for the sake of the bigger picture and song purpose in general, it had to be said. But I get yall 2, I don't perceive it that way tho
