I truly believe the reason Drake responded like this so quickly was cuz he spent time with Skepta and the Grime culture in London who diss each other instant with no problem. He found Skepta at the right time otherwise he would have done what he usually does, subliminals, not respond and Meek would still be cool. Just a theory lol.

Thought I'd get this out before the MSG show, may make another thread if things gets heated lol.
Was thinking about drake, kendrick and cole and how they came to be the most successful and I think in terms of "authenticity" (for want of a better word - uniqueness?), I think Cole lags way behind the other two. In terms of having a particular sound, drake got his thing on lock and the masses just eating it up. Kendrick is by far the most creative in terms of progressing his sound with the instrumentation and lack of fear to use different sounds that don't fit in with the "mainstream". This is where I think Cole hasn't really progressed on FHD. With tracks like Fire Squad, Tale of 2 Citiez and even Hello, the beats were way too safe and almost sounded like an imitation of a street b-----r that any "street" rapper could have done. I don't blame Cole for going for this sound cos his shows needed these types of songs but it's an example of how he hasn't really developed his own sound and just using "popular" sounding beats. Personally I like these songs (apart from Hello) but when I first heard these songs, it just sounded like he was reaching for a specific sound that everyone was telling him to do. Kendrick has never compromised on his albums and continues to push boundaries which is why he's got more of an identity than Cole but granted, FHD doing wonders for Cole's career right now. GOMD is one of Cole's truly great creative songs imo and Apparently also taking risks.

May be an unpopular opinion but interested to know yall thoughts.

He talked about this on the Combat Jack show. How he was actively trying to make radio friendly songs on the first album, and how that really backfired. The Steve Stout story about where does he fit in with the other rappers and whatnot. I think he's just focused on being a real MC, not really concerned if his female fans can twerk to his songs, etc. I think FHD sounds the way it does and got the reception it did because he's comfortable and being true to himself instead of trying to fit a mold he didn't create.

hes really in between drake and kendrick. Hes not all the way conscious like kendrick, but not all the way mainstream like drake. Hes in between both and it works for him. Dont really like comparing the 3 anymore cause eaach of them give something the others cant. Drake and kendrick cant make s--- like jan 28th, cole and drake cant full albums as good as TPAB/GKMC, and kendrick and cole cant make hits like drake. I personally still think kendrick is far superior to both cole and drake, but all 3 of them make dope s---.

I agree with this. However, FHD is still 8.5 album cause it simply sounds good and it's dope in general, although it certainly isn't something you haven't heard before. Drake is and will always be the greatest of this generation tho.

I'll just say this. Kendrick is the best emcee. Drake is the hit maker. Cole is my favorite.

They all bring something different and they're all really dope.

I thought about this the other day. I agree with most of what you said and I think he is comfortable. But, like you said (and others), 2014FHD is a great album and Cole has found his lane. He tried to make hits like Drake and if he tried to switch it up, Kendrick stans/critics would slam him. He doesn't need to do more than what he is doing now as long as it's genuine and sick. Proof in the dedicated fans and show capacity growing every project. In saying all that, I really enjoy what all 3 bring to the table and I do want more collabs but that's in due time I hope lol. Also, I listened to TPAB the other day and was think "wow, how the he'll would Cole keep up with Kendrick lyrically?!". Especially when I go back and depressingly listen to Shock The World and Temptation (cuz it STILL isn't out smdh) and K. Dot just goes off!! But then I listen to Cole and realise he aint even trying to be that lyrical in style cuz that's Kendrick and he does him. Less is More with Cole. Thats why he is my favourite but can always recognise Drake as the current GOAT Hip Pop artist and Kendrick the best MC of all three IMO.

Haven't seen this before lol Meek can't rap if it's not about rollies, dogs, killers, and philly. Failed the 5 fingers challenge while looking at his phone for reference. "give me something else"

Cole needs to bless us with a 5 Fingers challenge, even R.Kelly has done it :emoji_sob::emoji_sob::emoji_sob:

He was terrible... that was proof that he is a nice writter and can flow on his own beat or terms but this is why he came with trash with the diss track. he needs times to write it and remember it.

Sway needed to stop him... why was his phone out?

He kept saying to give him a sec, and then he'd check his phone, even said "let me see what I got", so he was obviously using lines he already had & using them to remember verses. Couldn't flow or keep going past a few bars, was pretty trash.
