I like "A Week Ago" better, this is just trying too hard to be jiggy.

A Week Ago is better, Jay fares better against Too Short here though

I think you're using "jiggy" in a lot of places where it doesn't make sense lol.

"Real Niggaz" an all-time classic. Too Short kinda washes him tho.

For the sometimes lack of focus this album has, I can never knock how amazing Jay was from top to bottom

Oh s---, this a classic. Where I'm From is Diddy's Best Production work and Jay-Z's most fire rapping. Ever.

Heavy contender for Jay's best song ever. It's so stunningly vivid and has some of his best lines.

Incredible song, always appreciated the sincerity and that Jay really was about that life.

This album deserves more credit than it gets tbh. Still my least favourite of the trilogy

"You Must Love Me" is incredible. Not many people ever hit that level as a songwriter. Best 1-2 punch to end an album in his career by a long shot.

So what does everyone think overall?

All in all I got a lot of love for Vol.1, I felt it was a great move for him to search for bigger commercial success following such a personal and detailed debut album. He eventually got it mastered by the time Vol.2 rolled in, still Vol.1 has some of his best individual tracks re: Where I'm From

This doesn't really have as much personality and isn't really as cohesive as his other ones but is still great, much better than i remember it being.

It's kinda gives me reasonable doubt vibes without feeling like a clone of it.

    yessir!
I think that's a good analysis. It also jumps pretty jarringly from the persona he created on RD to full-fledged rap star talking about publishing splits and lawsuits.
