SS2 doesnt do too much for me tbh. If that was thug on every project, I dont think I'd be as big of a fan. But its not bad by any means

Also SS3 & Im Up switch around a lot for me. I think Im Up has greater songs, but SS3 plays better

Yup. A lot of these Em fans don't seem to be taking this thread seriously, but the man's got more bad albums than good. He had a huge impact historically and there was a time when he was great, but he doesn't deserve to be on any top 10 OAT lists imo.

SS2 only has a handful of great songs but it's an hour-long clinic in master-level rapping

outside of the community of stans, TES is generally considered a huge step below his first two

For whatever reason, TES eclipsed MMLP in some people's minds. MMLP is the only time being an edgelord troll worked in Em's favor. That s--- predates the 4Chan/9Gag phenomenon that would soon follow. We livin' in a Post-Napster and Post-LimeWire age, bruh. Em ran s--- back then. Now, not so much. Plus, he wasn't as determined to reach out to every part of his fanbase like a Nas or a Lil Wayne in their prime. Em literally was G.O.A.T. from '97 to 2001. Four years. Not bad. Very strong four years. But after that, break it down.

    honestly.

SSLP was funny, witty, and well written
MMLP was more angry, was a better reflection of his current reality, and still had some of the wit from his previous offering
TES was disjointed, unfunny, and borderline cringe but was a display of the pop elements in eminem's music at its best

and that is a full comprehensive list of his "good" albums.

Em literally killed off acid rap with MMLP. But in a good way.

I feel like he was wittier and used ironic comedy and shock value better on SSLP. I felt he was a better rapper-- delivery, flow, lyrics on TES.

MMLP was the middle ground between the two with less of their faults, and so it was his best era/project.

TES marked a moment where Em embraced Serious Artist status. MMLP was like a 75-minute "f--- you" to anyone and everyone, mostly unconcerned with what critics had to say. TES on the other hand has a lot of that same anger, but it's far more interested in artistic credibility than anything before it (like, take a look at the Aerosmith sample for example, and something like Hailie's Song as well). Em got a taste of being taken seriously and liked how it felt. For that reason I think a lot of his fanbase elevated it despite obvious flaws (myself included, at the time!) - it felt like he was operating on a different playing field. That doesn't mean it's necessarily better than what came before it, though - I would argue that is isn't, and ambition aside, it falls short in different ways
