Dec 5, 2024Hot Mulligan- Why Would I Watch
Oh boy. I need to admit that I am not really a fan of pop punk. I don't hate it or anything but aside from like early Green Day, (American idiot is considered pop punk apparently and I think that album's incredible) and Paramore, I haven't been the biggest fan. I don't really have any big reasons why, it's just not for me.
As such, I have to say that I didn't like this album that much. I can recognize that there are really good elements to this record, like the guitars, the vocals (Tades' voice was pretty hard to get into at first but i got used to it) the drums, etc. But my lack of love for the pop punk sound as a whole meant that I just really couldn't get into it.
Might check out some "classic" pop punk albums at some point (probably some Blink-182), but as it stands right now, I'm just not that big a fan of the genre (unless Olivia Rodrigo counts)

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
I need to preface this review by acknowledging this. Around 4 years ago my favorite rapper went from Em to Kanye. I was convinced that there would be nothing that could ever make another artist my favorite. Then Vultures 2 happened. Kendrick’s run this year has now made him my favorite rapper. So i do have some bias going in
It’s near impossible to discuss this album without acknowledging the beef. To be honest, if the last thing we got from Kendrick this year was “Watch the Party Die” i still would’ve been pretty satisfied. in a lot of ways (hear me out) this album is kind of like Kendrick’s Encore. both albums follow a very tense beef with some of the biggest rappers at the moment (Drake and Ja Rule). The difference is that GNX is actually good. The other album that i see parallels to is 2pac’s “Don Killuminati” which is great because that’s my favorite pac album. I did see someone on this forum say that this is his “Revival” which is f---ing astonishing.
The intensity on tracks like “wacced out murals” and “hey now” is peak. There’s also the fun tracks like “squabble up” and “tv off” which have already been making rounds online. “Reincarnated” is a a great tribute to pac and “heart pt. 6” is a great addition to the series (Not to be confused with Drake’s rendition…).
Despite the initial hype and the appreciation i have for the songs i’ve mentioned beforehand, I don’t LOVE the entire album. No songs are really bad (except “peekaboo”, “GNX” comes close), but “luther”, “man at the garden” and “gloria” will probably have to grow on me. “dodger blue” is pretty cool tho.
Overall I still don’t know where I’d rank this in Kendrick’s discography. I’d probably put it above S80 but under the rest. Which doesn’t make this album bad by any means, it’s just that those albums are mostly instant classics. I can’t wait to see what he drops next.
Favorites: wacced out murals, squabble up, reincarnated, tv off, heart pt. 6

Brotha Lynch Hung - Mannibalector
Horrorcore is a genre that I know little to nothing about. Aside from early Em and Tyler, the only horrorcore I've listened to is the Insane Clown Posse (They're Not That Bad!!!). Well, there's also this song by Necro called "p---- Is My Weakness" which technically counts I guess. I'd definitely heard about Brotha Lynch Hung (gonna call him BLH for the rest of the review) but I had never checked out any song from him before. All I knew about this album going in was that he was signed to Tech N9ne's Strange Music when this album dropped and the fact that the cover looks spoooky.
And it's fine. I didn't hate it, but I can't act like I loved it either. BLH has a pretty cool voice, but his lyrics didn't really do much for me. After a while the r--- and cannibalism lyrics just kinda got repetitive after a bit. The other featured rappers were okay, but Tech N9ne was definitely a standout.
What I will say though, is that this album has some very good production. "Stabbed" and "Dead b----" were standouts. Even though I said that the album was just fine... I gotta admit. I f---ing LOVE "Something About Susan" . It was surprisingly vibey despite the lyrics and I think it's honestly great. High point of the album for me personally.
And yeah, that's about it really. SAS is definitely going into my playlist, and i might check out his earlier stuff.
Favorites: Disappeared, Something About Susan (f---ing PEAK), Stabbed, Dead b----

Theater Of The Mind - Ludacris QUICK REVIEW
Score: 6.5
Review:
Quick review because it is Wednesday night (again). Entertaining listen, but it went back and forth in quality a lot. Some cool songs, but the slow songs were meh. One More Drink and Nasty Girl were dope though. I trust when y'all say that Luda has better albums. Thanks for the pick @Michael Myers !

Action Bronson - Rare Chandeliers
Tracks that stuck out the most to me: Blood of the Goat, Gateway To Wizardry, Eggs On The Third Floor, Demolition Man, The Symbol
OVERALL RATING: 6/10
Alchemist went off on this project, the beats really carry it for me. Action Bronson is entertaining enough to not completely fade into the background, but he just doesn’t do much for me personally. He has some memorable lines though. There are some standout features like Schoolboy Q, and the back and forths on “Blood of the Goat” were interesting. I don’t have much to say about this tbh. I don’t see myself listening to this again, but it’s an above average project. @AOTWClubjankland, Wreckless, Michael Myers and 5 others like this. -

David Bowie - LOW
Heroes is probably the only David Bowie song I’m familiar with so I appreciate this album pick. Some of the sounds on this record were quite relaxing, but overall, the album didn’t do much for me.
I feel like Bowie is one of those artists whose music would hit differently if it was part of my upbringing, something I would enjoy more if it played in the household growing up but that wasn’t my experience.
That said, this album was probably revolutionary for it’s time. Not something I’d listen to on a daily basis but I appreciate the artistry behind it and enjoyed a lot of the melodies on the album.

I obviously know Bowie's more pop songs and his music from the movie Labyrinth but this is my first actual dive into his catalog.
I was initially shocked at the lack of singing on the album but after reading up a bit on it and listening consecutively that quickly faded.
I don't have much to say about it as a whole cause it's pretty experiential but the production is immaculate and the small glimpses of Bowie's voice are perfect for the songs they're on.
I'm definitely going to be listening to this for ambience in the future and really enjoyed my time with this one.
