The year is 1976. David Bowie is severely addicted to cocaine and ultimately decides to move to Berlin. Straight off of the critical success of his last album Station to Station, the entire Berlin era is the root of various classic records like Iggy Pop's The Idiot and Bowie's very own 'Heroes' and Lodger. These three albums are each amazing in their own different ways, but (in my opinion) they all pale in comparison to the first Bowie album to come out of these sessions...
My Pick for AOTW Club is:
    Low (1977)
    by David Bowie
To say that Low is a monumental album in rock would be an understatement. This record marked the start of Bowie's various collaborations with music legend Brian Eno, and would prove to be incredibly influential for various artists including Nine Inch Nails, Joy Division, and The Cure. Low is also very notable for having a clear sonic difference from the first "day" side primarily made up of rock songs and the second "night" side, which is entirely made up of atmospheric ambient music (The closing track "Subterraneans" is one of my favorite songs of all time). Released in the middle of Bowie's classics era, Low is an incredibly great and influential albums, and I hope that you all enjoy it as much as I do

    Disturbed- Indestructible
I want to start off this review by admitting that to say that I am unfamiliar with Disturbed would be an understatement. Aside from hearing the name, the only song of theirs I’d heard before was their cover of “The Sound of Silence”, and the only reason I had heard it was because they performed it on Conan, so i was basically entering this album completely blind.

First I’ll mention the things that I liked. Even though it’s something that I bring up in almost every metal/rock review, I loved the guitar work on here. Dan Donegan is my personal MVP for this album, and it mught be my favorite part of it. That’s not to day that the other members aren’t good or anything, but he really stole the show for me.

Now, I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I just couldn’t get into David Draiman’s voice. It’s not bad or anything (He especially shines on tracks like “Haunted”) but for the most part I just couldn’t vibe with the vocals that much.

Overall, I like the album fine. I don’t really have any crazy negative opinions toward it or anything, it’s just that the vocals aren’t my cup of tea, and that affects the enjoyability for me personally.

Grew up loving Disturbed's singles but never listened to an album. It could be because of my nostalgic bias but I really enjoyed my time with this!

It's very theatrical and kinda cringe but it feels very endearing and a product of it's time in a positive way, like I don't think you'll ever get a song now like Indestructible or something as heartbreaking as Inside The Fire very often anyone especially in the genre.

I've always liked David Draimans ridiculous vocals, it works super well for the kind of music that makes and the instrumentation all around is great.

The sound does kinda tire itself out in its runtime though, and although I didn't feel the fatigue or dislike of certain songs to the degree other reviews did I an definitely see where it comes from. I didn't dislike any songs though which I consider an absolute win especially for an album that can come across dated to some.

Very fun to go down memory lane and it made me in the mood to relisten to all the songs I haven't heard from a while that I love from this band so thank you @Wreckless!

    Disturbed- Indestructible

Gave this album 3 listens and enjoyed it more each listen. The guitar work is awesome, a few really good solos throughout the album and the vocals are raw but very clear and everything to me is very in tune.

Some of my favorites are: inside the fire, the night, perfect insanity, divide and criminal

There are a few stinkers though, like songs that I thought were trash- torn and enough

I definitely saved all those songs I listed to my big favorites playlist. Might check out more Disturbed albums when I have some time!

Favorite tracks: Indestructible, Inside the Fire, Façade

    OVERALL RATING: 6/10

Lots of catchy tunes here. The instrumentation is great, but the singer’s voice doesn’t always land for me. When it works, it works though. There’s some thoughtful lyrics here which I can appreciate. The album really started losing me in the second half, I feel like it could’ve used more variety or something. After a while there wasn’t much that stuck out to me. There’s some legendary b-----r songs here but as a whole album experience it’s not the best. Still above average though. @AOTWClub

POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR - Bring Me The Horizon REVIEW

    Score: 6.5

    Review:

I honestly wish I liked this more. Sure, I saved 6 out of the 9 songs on the project, but something just wasn't clicking for me like I feel like it should have for me to rate it higher. Maybe I just didn't get enough songs in this one to really know how to feel? I'm sure this one would grow on me, but on initial listen, it's more middle of the road to me. When the songs were great, they were GREAT though! I feel like I should dive into the discog more. I don't have much to say about the album tbh, but great pick @jankland !

Bring Me The Horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror

    review

This EP is BMTH at their most mature, their most refined, and their most versatile.

Out of the gate, they put any allegations that they had gone soft to rest with Dear Diary, and they make it clear that this EP is focused around Covid, lockdowns, and the general feeling that, at the time of this project's release, the world was in a state of unrest. This song goes so f---ing insanely hard. It’s one of the songs that got me back listening to heavier music during lockdown after not doing so for a couple years atleast.

Parasite Eve follows a similar trend, though this song wasn't written about Covid, it felt conveniently interlinked with it. IMO, this is the worst track on the album, it feels a bit dated, stylistically and lyrically. I liked some of the production and how the song’s soundstage is set up but the track did not progress the way I hoped it would.

Teardrops begins to bring in the Linkin Park-inspired sound that will appear throughout the rest of the EP, and it does it in a great way. I love the production on this. The drums are sounding punchy as h--- with those layered guitars at the back. I like the writing a lot, Sykes sounds great. This song gave me hella Meteora vibes. This is how LP influenced music should be sounding in this day and age. One of my favorites on the album fasho.

Obey is the only good piece of music with Yungblud's name on it. Loving the energy of this track.

Itch for the Cure is a great electronic interlude, and makes me wish BMTH would do an entire project that sounds something like it. Enjoyed this track a bunch.

Kingslayer is the high point of this album. BMTH once again beat the popstar allegations and deliver some of their heaviest music in years, balanced out with BABYMETAL's fun, melodic, yet intense performance. This song is masterfully written as well, from the lyrics to how the verses are structured. Loved the production, the scream melting into that synth at the end was sick.

1x1 explores the LP-inspired sound once again, this time feeling a little too derivative of LP, but not by any means bad. Nova Twins also deliver a wonderful feature.

Ludens feels a bit boring compared to the rest of the tracklist. Its a good song, but I don't feel that it fits into its place on the EP too well.

Butterflies is a great outro, bringing the EP to a screeching halt with a slow, melodic ballad, Amy Lee does an amazing job, and Oli still manages to sprinkle in a hint of metalcore where it matters. Beautiful track.

    @AOTWClub

Its been over a year but this is actually one of the 3 Weeknd projects I've listened to (first 2 discs in Trilogy and Starboy) and my feelings are around the same if not a little more positive!

Now in my opinion I think the grimy seedier sound of his early music was absolutely a wave that he started and while it's artistically way more interesting to me I actually prefer some of the poppier sounds from him, that doesn't demerit the quality of this project however.

First things first the production on this whole mixtape is immaculate, now I can see people's perception of the project running the gammit but this part of the equation for this tape and for his entire discography that I've heard is undeniable. Same goes for his singing bro is great at what he does and it adds to the atmosphere he's chosen.

The lyrics aren't very standout to me particularly but they are pretty vivid in a way that I can see people clinging on to and I appreciate it for its imagery.

And I won't include it here but I did listen to the version of the mixtape that's on Trilogy with one of my favorite songs from the project, the bonus song exclusive to that release "Twenty Eight" it's very very good and I recommend anyone that liked the project to give it a listen!

Favorite Songs: High For This, House Of Balloons (idk if I find Glass Table Girls to be just okay or bad I flip flop lol), The Party & The After Party, Wicked Games, The Knowing.

I want to start by saying that I’ve never been a fan of traditional singing styles. Artists like Lorde and Clairo just don’t resonate with me, which is why i've put off listening to the Weeknd for so long as I assumed they would fall into that category.

I really prefer music with a stronger tempo. No matter how hard I try, songs that feature soft rhythms and slower singing tend to bore me to death 95% of time. Adele would be a good example of that.

Now, back to this album. it definitely has more energy than the two artists mentioned above. The production is solid, and I enjoyed the vibe on tracks like "What You Need". I also liked "House of Balloons." However, the album still leans into that soft singing style and overall I didn’t really enjoy it.

Favorite tracks: Putting Holes In Happiness, The Red Carpet Grave, Just a Car Crash Away, Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand)

    OVERALL RATING: 6/10

There’s a lot of awesome guitars, drums, and melodies on this album. I even like/relate to some of the lyrical themes. My main issue is Manson’s vocal delivery. It’s just really hit or miss for me. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn’t. That’s mainly what holds me back from fully connecting to and enjoying this music.

If I enjoyed his voice more I’d probably give the album a 7/10. It’s definitely not a bad album, I’d say it’s at least above average. I can see why people like this but it’s just not something I’d have the desire to listen to much. The tracks I favorited are tracks I’d be more likely to come back to though. @AOTWClub

Gonna try to keep this one short!

This is my second Travis Scott album and now my favorite, I enjoyed Utopia but I never revisted it much outside of a couple songs.

The Psychedelic Trap s--- usually isn't my thing at all but I think there's an energy here for a lot of the tracks that boosts my enjoyment, although it loses steam and wears thin on me during the last couple tracks. Also you can always here it but the Cudi influence is REALLY apparent on some songs in here lol.

Travis has never been a great rapper but I think his flows on this record are usually pretty hard which helps immensely, the production is also incredible for a lot of it which is par for the course with Travis.

Basically every feature does their thing too, don't feel like anyone made a song worse at all which is rare for an album with this many guests.

Favorite tracks: Pornography, Oh My Dis Side, 3500, 90210, Maria I'm Drunk (idk how he made me enjoy Justin Bieber)

Honorable mentions: Piss On Your Grave, Nightcrawler.

    Least favorites: Impossible, Flying High

Disliking Oh My Dis Side cannot allow me to partake in this music forum anymore. I’m sorry Lord Travis for how they have treated you.

    Travis Scott- Rodeo Review

To say I like Travis Scott is far from the truth. I remember hearing Rodeo(I check out everything) and thinking it was pretty repetitive and dull.

Gonna jump into this one and take notes as I'm listening. Usually I do it all at the end.

Pornography the production is superb, as most of Travis Scotts work is. The lyrics on the other hand are just okay, don't love the song but don't hate it.

Oh my/ Dis Side, once again beat is insane, the oh my oh my autotune is annoying as f---. Just repetitive and boring. So sick of this song by the time the verses come In.

3500 it's actually crazy to me Future is so popular, he's so irritating. Production once again quite good. Dunno why anyone would give future a verse though he's dogshit.

Wasted has a sick p---- C sample, song itself snoozefest. Juicy J is nice though

90210 I actually think Travis sounds good rapping on this song, one of the songs I like the most

Pray 4 Love weekend sounds great, I like this one too, beat is good and song smooth

Nightcrawler dogshit just sounds like a f---ing mess

Piss on your grave "I use your face as a urinal then do the same at your funeral" my god kanye is bad. I do like Travis's rapping on this track

Antidote I've always really liked this song

Impossible is a snooze fest like so boring

Maria I'm drunk Bieber sounds great, the beat is good, the song is okay. I wouldnt skip it, but wouldn't go outta my way to listen to it either

Flying high the beat is nice af but who writes Travis's lyrics a 6 year old?

I can Tell the beat is pretty good once again I dunno, I feel like I just don't get it. Like I find it boring for the most part.

Apple Pie the autotune at the start is such a turn off, he sounds good rapping though once he starts I just don't get what's appealing about this

Ok Alright I'm just bored like it's a lot of nothing and I can't wait for it to end

Never Catch me Travis sounds horrible on this song

Overall: I really wish he was good, the production is very good I just find Travis extremely boring.
I guess I'm too old maybe to really get it? It's just nothing special but does have some decent moments so I'll be somewhat nice

    Score: 5/10

Some of Travis’s best work. He’s one of those artists that creates a world with his music. A lot of these songs just have that vibe to it where you can party to it or chill to it on night drives. Not every song is perfect nor is Travis’s rapping but the vibes, instrumentals, and song structures are ear candy. There’s a lot of goated features here too like Young Thug, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, etc. I don’t have a lot of issues with this so I have no choice but to give it at least a 9. This sound isn’t for everybody but I personally don’t have much to criticize here. @AOTWClub

    Travis Scott - Rodeo
"Will He Make It? Was It Worth It? Did He Win? Will He Survive? The Rodeo"
I was already very familiar with Rodeo before @DiggleDogg69 recommended it (GOATed pick) and I was excited to revisit it. I had actually just relistened to DBR in the past few days so I was probably going to relisten to the record soon enough. When talking about Rodeo, it's worth mentioning that this is Travis at the peak of his come-up. He wasn't an underground artist anymore, but he wasn't at the point of having McDonald's meals and doing movie soundtracks yet.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this here before, but I'm from the South, which means that I'm slightly bias towards Southern rap. As a result, Rodeo is an absolute goldmine. Future, 2 Chainz, Juicy J, p---- C samples, THUGGER etc. Every single guest on the record is amazing (Even if TikTok is making "Nightcrawler" a meme, it's still an absolute b-----r) and oh my god the beats. There is not a single beat on this record that's anything less than stellar. Some obvious highlights are Oh My Dis Side, 3500, 90210 and Nightcrawler.

Then, there's Travis himself. A lot of people (even ITT) frequently point out that while Travis is a master at creating atmospheres through songs, his lyrics don't always match that level. With that being said, I think Rodeo is Travis' peak as a rapper. Some of his best verses in his entire career are on this record (Pornography, Apple Pie, 90210). There's also a clear theme all throughout the record. In a lot of ways, Rodeo is sort of a loose concept album. Travis going from "...look at little Scotty now..." (Piss On Your Grave) to risking it all in order to chase success (Apple Pie) clearly shows Travis' career up to this point and in a lot of ways it might be his most personal album.

I'm already very familiar with Travis so aside from revisiting his discog (it's been some time since I've bumped ASTROWORLD) there's not much I can do except wait for what he drops next. Amazing album and I'm glad it got recommended here.

Alright @AOTWClub , y'all have been blessed ONE WEEK EARLY with the next DiggleDogg picked album! @DKC I hope we can listen to a pick from you soon!

Anyways, my original plan was to spin a wheel of albums that I love, but I realized why not just do the album I love most, my favorite album of all time (currently), and that is...

    Rodeo - Travis Scott
    [IMG]

Considered a modern classic, this album released in 2015 and was Travis' big studio debut. Features include Quavo, Future, 2Chainz, Juicy J, Kacy Hill, The Weeknd, Swae Lee, Chief Keef, Ye, Justin Bieber, Young Thug, Toro y Moi, and ScHoolboy Q. Features production from Travis himself, Metro Boomin, Ye, Pharrell, Mike Dean, Wondagurl, and more. Some of his biggest hits like Antidote, 3500, 90210, and Nightcrawler originate from this project.

Hope you guys enjoy this album as much as I do! I truly consider it a 10/10 album and Travis' best to this day. Can't wait to hear the reviews!

I get the divisiveness here but I really don't hate this Atmosphere project as much as y'all lol

I've heard of them before but all I knew is that they were underground and wasn't really familiar with the style of rap itself. I tried to listen earlier throughout the week but I could tell I wouldn't be in the mood for it at all so these are fresh thoughts from the two listens I gave it today.

First off I really like the production most of the time, it lends itself to storytelling raps but there's a couple beats I'm not the biggest fan of, overall it's solid in that regard.

Secondly I enjoyed the rapping for what it is but it's not really my style, there's a bit of a 90s era way of storytelling that can come of a bit cornball but it's well executed for what it is.

Thirdly I can absolutely hear the Macklemore comparisons in some of his flows and his voice, Macklemore is much more pop rap which makes it come off cornier for him though.

I also like how the music box at the end loops to the same sound at the beginning of the album which can recontexualize some of the earlier songs in the tracklist to be about the little girl rapped about in the last song, or that's at least how I took it lol

Favorite Songs: Dreamer, Me, Yesterday, In Her Music Box

Overall: Not my thing and there's styles of storytelling I enjoy way more in my music but I don't think it's done poorly for what was intended at all.
