While I'm here and have some time (aka procrastinating literally my last non-exam assignment of the school year), I'll do what I have been too busy to do the last week and a half and talk about these tracks from my mixtape and why I selected them. I know it's not my week anymore but still, I like to talk about my selections and why.

Gonna put it all in a spoiler tag because I have no clue how long it'll go on, feel free to read if you'd like

    1. No More ?'s - I wanted Eazy on here, and spent a bit trying to find the perfect track. I almost did Nobody Move, but felt No More ?'s worked much better as an opener. Just gets you right into the tape

    2. Everlasting Bass - My dad ALWAYS blasted this song in his car whenever he wanted to play something bass heavy, and with Like That dropping last year, it brought memories of that back. I played Like That for him and I saw one of the biggest smiles on his face and that memory sticks with me a year later. This song to me is a song that bridges a gap between generations now, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Also I just realized I worded a lot of this like my dad passed, don't worry he's perfectly fine lmfao

    3. Sunset Driver - My friend put me onto this song in senior year and it always reminds me of senior year and high school, which is funny considering it's an MJ song from the 80's. I wanted MJ on here, but didn't wanna throw a basic and obvious track from him on here, so this track worked perfectly.

    4. Dancing Queen - Honestly, they have just been spamming this song at work so it has been in my head for months. Classic track and deserved a spot regardless.

    5. We Got The Beat - Just a catchy and fun track, what more can I say? One of those songs I get addicted to for about a week or two and then falls out of rotation for about a year and finds its way back.

    6. I'll Be Loving You (Forever) - 70's-90's mixtape...how was I not gonna include a boy band? This is one of my mom's favorite songs ever, and a track I have seen live from NKOTB a couple times. I really love this track and I was excited to see how this group in particular would react lmfao

    7. Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey - I was shocked to discover how popular this song already was, because I had never heard it before last summer. My friend put me on to this song and it would always come on in the car on the way to work, so this song just reminds me of the summer.

    8. Wheel in the Sky - Another case of wanting an artist in here, but not wanting a conventional song from them. While this song is popular, it is not talked about nearly as much as other Journey tracks. Great track!

    9. Baby Blue - Yeah, Breaking Bad. You caught me.

    10. Call Me - I f---ing LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. I heard this song for the first time on Bride of Chucky and it has been stuck in my head for at least a decade now. It's so so so good and I'm glad y'all agreed with me on that.

    11. Bad Reputation - I have loved Joan Jett for years, and I just figured this track worked perfectly where I needed it in the mixtape. Was considering I Hate Myself for Loving You, Crimson and Clover, or Cherry Bomb.

    12. Sabotage - This track, like Bad Reputation, just felt like it fit there.

    13. My Own Summer (Shove It) - Been on a small Deftones kick lately, and I know this is pretty much their biggest song (I think), but it blended in here with some of the harder tracks.

    14. Heart-Shaped Box - I knew I had to calm it down a bit to close out the tape, so I figured this classic song that goes back and forth between chill a--- singing to hard rock worked perfect. RIP Kurt you genius.

    15. Wish You Were Here - Everything I can say about this track was said by y'all, and it would have been the closing track had I not been set on...

    16. Nothing Else Matters - This song was always going to be the outro to this tape, it's too perfect of an outro to not happen. Love Metallica so so much (AND I GET TO SEE THEM LIVE TWICE NEXT WEEK HOLY FUUUUCK)

    Score: 10.0 (16/16)

Pure classic hip-hop mixtape, how was I NOT gonna love this? So many of these artists I need to sit down and listen to, I believe a lot of these albums are on my list of albums to listen to over the summer as well. Anyways, I loved every single track here. Some standouts, however, to me were Hey Young World, Smooth Operator, A Friend, What I'm Here 4 (as @Jimmy Jazz said, the track is insane, g--- Starr has caught my attention a lot recently), Double Trouble, I'm The f---in' Murderer, and Ready to Die. Shoutout Roo for this tape man, def one I can see me revisiting a lot!

Tracklist looks like one of those Eminem verses where he’s talking about these young cats disrespecting hip-hop’s roots.

Excited to listen, not very familiar with most of these. Also, this has a bunch of artists I’ve been meaning to check out.

Justin Trudeau - Rite of Exorcism

I appreciate the concept, and there were a few classic songs on here that I enjoy individually. But overall, I found a lot of the music a bit too gimmicky. Maybe because I'm hungover but it wasn't really vibing with a lot of this.

Sorry for the harsh review but I will give this a 6/10

Yeez - When The Blood Burns

Lot of annoying stuff got in the way of me listening to this as much as I wanted but safe to say I loved it!

Starting off on an instrumental track is bold but it was a great opener, gorgeous track.

Now with the start of the non English tracks I'll say basically all of them worked for me personally, I really liked La Grasa de Las Calpitales. Some parts of it were weird as h--- in a very entertaining way some of the vocal delivery also oddly reminded me of Elton John? Great stuff

Fun House is another risky but great pick that doesn't feel as long as it is and transitions quite nicely into Waves Of Fear which was also solid, I really need to listen to more Lou Reed and Velvet Underground

El Borrego is cool, it's nice hearing genres that don't feel as represented in other languages done well!

Sueles dejarme is great as well, one of my favorites of the foreign tracks, adore the overall production of this one.

Not even gonna bother trying to spell the name but the Kino song is another favorite of mine, it's just a perfectly distilled 80s sound

The Isley Brothers are The Isley Brothers, there's not much to say, performance and instrumentation are immaculate. 10/10

Now I wasn't expecting the Ween pick to actually be one of the instrumental choices but it's probably a top 3 of the Playlist for me, the guitar tone is perfect the song itself is equally calming and engaging.

Grace is an album I've been meaning to listen to for a long time and Eternal Life shot it up the list of what to get to, it's so exactly my s--- it's crazy. Buckleys highnotes remind me of Chris Cornell on this track it's incredible. My favorite of the Playlist.

Yolanda is another incredible track I appreciate doing a Bobby Bland track that isn't Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City. Gorgeous smokey track.

Much like I said with the Isleys, Outkast is Outkast of course Babylon is great.

Now sometimes I forget that Beck f---ing slaps, Debra is close with Eternal Life as being my favorite song on the playlist. Everything about it is perfect.

My brother is a big R.E.M. fan so I appreciate the pick here, I love Michael Stipes voice and the band always knows how to support it perfectly goated song goated band.

I'm not super familiar with Television although the name does ring some sort of bell, love this song though and it's another case of it not feeling as long as it is, good shot.

And last but not least is The Voice Of Love, nice beautifully comfy sing albeit with a sense of melancholic uneasiness that's perfect for Twin Peaks and the simultaneously a perfect ending to the mixtape, especially after Torn Curtain. RIP the goat David Lynch, may his impact on cinema not be forgotten.

Favorites: La Grasa de Las Capitales, the Kino song (again don't feel like copying and pasting the title lol), Tell Me When You Need It Again, A Tear For Eddie, Eternal Life, Yolanda, Debra, Turn You Inside Out, Torn Curtain.

    RATING:
    10/10

I'm not trying to score points by making this mixtape a bit of a story. Just wanted to have some fun with it.

Basically my mixtape is about a man who meets a woman, who turns out to be a witch, who then casts a spell on him. The spell makes him suffer many different hallucinations until he finds a way out....

    Hope you guys enjoy!

@Yeez - When The Blood Burns... REVIEW

    Score: 8.8 (14/16)

A nice range of sounds on this mixtape from Yeez! Starting and ending with instrumental tracks put a nice bow on it all, especially since they both sound like intro and outros, respectively. While mostly rock tracks, the sound still sounded varied and the mix of Outkast towards the end was a nice break in the action. The only tracks I wasn't into was Fun House and El borrego, otherwise I liked every track! I already talked about this earlier, but I like how Yeez includes instrumental tracks in his tapes. It's especially nice on walks and while working on stuff. Great tape Yeez!

I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! When I was finalizing the tracklist, I thought Grasa de las Capitales would be the most divisive, so it's definitely a bit surprising to see that El borrego has been more mixed.

Yeez - When The Blood Burns…

    Favorites:
La Grasa de las Capitales, Tell Me When You Need It Again Pts 1 & 2, A Tear for Eddie (mmm boobz), Eternal Life, Babylon, The Voice of Love

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 8/10

Let me just get the negatives out of the way right off the bat: Fun House, Waves of Fear, and El borrego just didn’t fully connect with me. They are still good songs but for some reason I just didn’t like them as much as the other songs. On El borrego I wasn’t the biggest fan of the vocal effect.

Now onto the positives: I like the usage of instrumental tracks on this mixtape. Silver Morning, A Tear for Eddie, and The Voice of Love are all great tracks despite having no vocals. And with that, the tape starts and ends beautifully. Silver Morning sets the tone with a really unique atmosphere. The Voice of Love is unsettling yet hopeful at the same time and is my most listened to track on the tape.

To close out the review, I’ll talk about some other tracks I feel are worth highlighting. La Grasa de las Capitales is probably the best Spanish song I’ve ever heard and is pure ADHD in song format. That song went all sorts of unexpected places. Tell Me When You Need It Again Pts 1 & 2 is just amazing. The passion of Jeff Buckley’s vocals on Eternal Life is really captivating. Babylon is classic Outkast. This is a great tape that has some variety @AOTWClub

What a start to round 2 of mixtape mania and a wonderful comeback story! From my least favorite mixtape last round to (potentially) my favorite in this round. Love the tracks on here, classics and deep cuts alike! Black Dog, Empire are some all timer tracks, and there’s some songs on here from familiar bands that I had never heard before. It truly was a great time listening to some old classics and hearing a lot of new songs in the process! I’m interested to see the song you thought would be divisive (if you didn’t already say it and I skimmed over it sometime in the last couple days), I have a few guesses of which track it could be. Anyways, awesome mixtape Wreckless!

Btw I was surprised by the comment regarding picking classics as I figured nothing besides Black Dog on my mixtape was mainstream.

Even with Motorhead, Louie Louie probably wouldn't crack their top 15.

I guess there a few mildly popular ones though like Christian Woman but for the most part I made an effort to go with relatively unknown songs.

I think we shouldn't be too self concious about it unless you're going out of your way to building your mixtape using only popular bands and songs.
