I’m happy with my current tracklist. It’s focused and s----s all over my last tape. It won’t be for everyone, but this time I finally get my redemption. It’s stuff I listen to, not just a bunch of random songs I haven’t touched in a decade.
That said, I’m mostly looking forward to see what you guys have and add some new stuff to my catalog. My 70s and 80s collection is looking pretty thin and I’m also down to expanding my 90s section, which doesn't stack up to the 2000s.Justin Trudeau, Jimmy Jazz, jankland and 4 others like this. -

Playboy Carti- I Am Music review
I somehow made it through the entire album, it f---ing sucks. The guy is trash, there isn't one part of this i like. I found myself wondering why Kendrick Lamar would work with this f---ing loser.
90 percent of the time I can't understand a f---ing word he's saying. This album sucks, literally the worst piece of s--- I've ever listened too.

Big.Monkeys Blow Up Doll Review
Favorite songs: D.R.U.G.S, Symmetry, The Valley / Dead Or Alive, Feel At Home, Reality Check, The Come Up, F (r) iends, Lemon
Least favourite: Fresh Prince , DEEPER
Listening to an all-rap mixtape was surprisingly refreshing. None of the tracks here were familiar so it was nice to discover some new music. Over the past few years, I’ve been fully immersed into rock/metal so it’s been a while since I’ve given rap much attention.
The song selection was solid and the transition between them was smooth. The opener was great, it was cool to hear some newer stuff along with some old-school tracks like The Come Up. The production on F(r)iends was very impressive.
That said, there were still a few tracks I wasn’t into. Fresh Prince felt very basic and repetitive. Alchemist who’s production I never really liked.
Overall, it was a well-curated mixtape. Despite the uncalled snitching attempt to SM lol, and the questionable scoring of my own mixtape, which I can only assume was an honest review, I’m here to focus on the music and this was definitely one of the better mixtapes.

Big Monkey's Blowup Doll (lmao)
So a lot of these artists have been mentioned before on S80. And most of them I never really got into when I checked out their full projects.
However, this is a dope collection of great rap records. Enjoyed it a lot!
D.R.U.G.S - really dope, the piano music is so good man. Ab goes in and lyrically it's great. Hook is also catchy as h---. 9/10
Symmetry - a little more upbeat sounding than the last, love it. Saba is an artist I meant in my intro, but this song is great. 9/10
Carefree - same as above. Mick is really riding the beat, smooth as f---. Nice laid back track. 9/10
Feel at home - another dope and catchy hook, combined with smooth rapping and a laid back beat. Nothing to dislike here. 9/10
Waves On Every Chain - a different sound than the tracks so far but I like it. Never heard of this guy tbh. Again production is great too. 8/10
Not a drill - first song I didn't really feel that much (compared to the rest so far). Dude sounds a little bored/monotone, but yeah it's not bad and the lyrics are pretty good. 6/10
Fresh prince - the flow is really something I had to get used to but this is low key a b-----r. 8/10
Dead or alive - the energy here is amazing, and it also f---ing slaps. Probably my favorite so far. 10/10
Reality check - back to the more laid back s---, I can just repeat what I said earlier. This is nice, all of them killing the beat flowing like water. 8.5/10
The Come Up - Premier and AZ. What else is there to say? 9/10
Friends - sounding like a broken record .. maybe a tbt wasn't needed here because I can just repeat that this is a great track in every way. 9/10
Indian Summer - only thing that kinda bothered me is that I was waiting for the beat to drop the whole time. 7/10
Deeper - love the sample. Very relaxing song. 8/10
Mommy dearest - this isn't really my thing but it's good. 7/10
Lemon - method man kills it. Conway is meh to me and this is a little too slow for me I guess. Not that it's fair critizism, it's still solid. 7.5/10
Matthew in the middle - god I love the production. 'Since 99, we have problems' was so clever.
But its more spoken word than he's actually rapping at times, but when he does rap it's great. 8/10
Man this was such a great listen @Allis Mines giving this a 8.5/10. Literally haven't heard any of these and added more than half to my own playlist.

Playboi Carti - MUSIC
review
Had a lot of time to bump the new Carti today and I feel like I am ready as ever to write my review.
Honestly, Carti to me is an artist with great potential. He isn’t exactly what I usually listen to but I cannot deny that he has made dozens and dozens of classic, energetic songs. Sometimes his style just clicks and specific songs go crazy hard in the moment lol, s----s tend to sound like they belong on a video game soundtrack of sorts.
I feel like it is the same exact scenario every time carti drops, opinions will radically shift within 1 or 2 months and this album will be considered a classic by his cult following. I don’t even say that in a negative way, it is cool when music is given time to grow and age - it shouldn’t be a black and white scenario after all.
When I look back at this album in the future I’ll probably have its horrid f---ing release and copium inducing delays etched permanently into my brain. It is like Carti, his team, and the label as well, actively worked toward committing genocide over whatever hype this album was getting when it was first teased. And it was massive hype. In my opinion, he should’ve compiled 10ish bangers and struck while the iron was still hot - akka, drop a year or two after WLR.
The reason I’m formatting my review like this instead of talking in depth about the songs is that it is really difficult to try and textually do justice to any 30 tracks, especially to Carti’s because his s--- is just different lol - hard to have have a traditional review. I’ve been lucky to have the time today to listen to the whole thing almost 4 times and as an album it just did not do it for me. The songs I genuinely enjoyed on this album were: Crush, Mojo jojo, Philly, Crank, Cocaine Noise, Hba, and Good Credit. There are some pretty hard tracks on here but none of them, IMO, go as hard as my favorites off of Die Lit. That album was a kind of ‘lightning in the bottle’ moment I guess, it is hard for a style such as his to both be consistent and to mature well. What turned me off from this album is, for starters, the 30 song tracklist. Carti is not your typical LP artist, atleast to me. When I play his music I rarely do it by playing whole albums. To me he is an excellent playlist rapper. It is my opinion that it’s impossible for a 30 song album to be consistently good. Carti’s I am Music is obvious proof of this. A lot of the tracks blend into one another, it is all over the place. The beats often sound unfinished, like they were made in 15 minutes and mixed with an aliexpress stereo system. Not that crazy about the voice change either lol. Somebody said that Carti, on this album, sounds like biden on fent - and d---, I can hear it.
The good songs on here are somewhat well spread out but it is not easy to save a 30 song album once mediocre tracks start lining up. I was pretty hyped for this project, but perhaps I’ve screwed myself by hoping for something spacier and more potent.
I leave now to cleanse my ears with this great mixtape from Allis, going to write a review on it soon. Wanted to do that today but then this dropped and I had to set it aside for a bit cause ‘the upcoming Carti album’ was lowkey mythologized during these past few years. I’m not that impressed with it. Carti surely has something better and more refined than this in him.
4.5/10
