There's a few users who I would give a 0/10 out of spite, but fortunately they don't participate because they only talk about Eminem.

Allis Mines - Big Monkey's Blowup Doll
Wow, BM's blowup doll knows a lot of rap lyrics surprisingly. So here's the tbt:
    1. D.R.U.G.S.- Decent track. It was neat hearing Mac on the hook
    2. Symmetry- Pretty good. I’m really only familiar with Saba from CFM and his features on Chance’s projects so this was pretty good I’d say
    3. Carefree- Pretty d--- good. Mick slides on this beat my god
    4. (How Could Anybody) Feel at Home- I think I’m only aware of OME because of his appearance on Eric Andre. Very nice track though, the beats so far have been pretty chill which is really cool
    5. Waves On Every Chain- Dope track. Reminds me of something I’d listen to on the radio on the way to the gym. Definitely a switch up form the first 4, but I think it works well
    6. Not A Drill- Decent track, although I’d say that it’s my least favorite from the tape
    7. Fresh Prince- Decent track.
    8. Dead Or Alive- Good track, I like it!
    9. Reality Check- Woah, this is from the album that Allis suggested in my album log thread. I dig it a lot actually. From the artists name I expected some Cannibal Ox-esque music, but this was pretty soulful surprisingly.
    10. The Come Up- First solo AZ track I’ve heard that isn’t from Doe or Die. AZ is great as usual, and d--- that Premier beat is sick
    11. F (R) Iends- Good track, beat change was quite unexpected
    12. Indian Summer- amazing track. Billy and Elucid are great and Alc's production is stellar. Haram is so f---ing dope
    13. Deeper- First solo Roc Marci song I’ve ever heard. It’s dope, I like the beat and his flow is dope as well
    14. Mommy Dearest (A Eulogy)- I remember hearing lots of talk about Manger on McNichols back in 2020, and I can see why. Boldy’s f---ing great
    15. Lemon- Conway is always great, but m---…holy s---.
    16. Matthew in the Middle- Pretty good track, works as a good closer.
Overall I enjoyed a good amount of the tracks on here. I think this is the push i needed to listen to some of the albums these songs are from (Reloaded, FKTAG, MOM, MOTU etc.) Although, I think the name is a bit misleading, because realistically, a Big Monkey mixtape would include nothing but Eminem edits with made up titles. Jokes aside, big thanks to @Allis Mines for the tape and yeah.
FAVORITES: Symmetry, Carefree, HCAFAH, Reality Check, The Come Up, Lemon

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 7/10

I appreciate the Vince Staples, Bright Eyes, Tyler The Creator, and Danny Brown representation on the mixtape. Yet another song from Big Fish Theory by Vince Staples found on these mixtapes! It’s definitely a good album, I’d say it’s probably my favorite Vince Staples album. Although not necessarily on my favorites list, I think “Teeth Like God’s Shoeshine”, “Half Sister”, “Trying to Explain”, and “Empty Stomach Space Cadet” are pretty creative songs.

For some unknown reason, I don’t fully vibe with tracks 1, 2, 3, and 5. They aren’t bad songs at all though, and I could see them growing on me in the future. I guess it’s just not what I wanna hear right now. At least now we know why you call yourself Jimmy Jazz!

The cover of this mixtape is one of the cooler ones. I’d say it fits the vibe of the mixtape well. You achieved your goal of having variety so I have to give you a golden star sticker for that:emoji_star: I like the dark atmosphere as I am generally a dark person on the inside most of the time.

Overall, this is a good mixtape. As I said, I only have issues with the first few tracks but those tracks still leave room to grow on me. It’s nice to see unique artists and bands that some people in the group might not know about. @AOTWClub

Michael Myers - Halloween: Revival of Michael Myers
    wait... Revival?
    First, here's the track-by-track
    1. Midnight Monster Hop- Pretty Fun intro.
    2. The Watcher 2- Great track. Rakim’s verse is underrated. It's a shame that Truth Hurts basically disappeared after the early 2000's
    3. Beginning of the End- Not usually my thing but I liked it actually.
    4. Power is Power- Good track, but feels out of place
    5. WTF Do I Know- Same as track 4.
    6. Rio- I think I enjoy the track a bit more than other members because i can actually understand what he’s saying lmao. I like the track but again, it sounds out of place
    7. Body Talks- Same as tracks 4 and 5
    8. Cut the Bridge- Its alright, not really my thing
    9. Hustler Musik- great track, C2 is a masterpiece.
    10. Something to Die For- Couldn’t really get into it sadly
    11. It’s Never Too Late- Pretty Good
    12. The Nena Song- intro reminded me of the Terminator 2 opening. I like it a lot actually. Might be my favorite song out of all the ones I hadn't heard before
    13. Smoke Like a Fire- I really like the verses and the beat, but the singing on the hook…saying it’s not for me” would be an understatement. Also this is unrelated, but have any of y'all seen the RZA guitar center video? f---ing hilarious lmao
    14. La Respuesta- Same as Rio, but I like this one more.
    15. Bring Me To Life - Daredevil 2003 Flashbacks. Reminds me of all the alt kids i knew in high school. This song has been tainted a bit for me personally since I had to witness someone singing it multiple times for weeks (very long story, it was some rock band that fell apart. I did k--- during my performance of Personal Jesus though :) ) but i still recognize that it’s pretty good.
    16. Still Alive- Not really my thing. At least it isn’t Kings Never Die lmao
So, what's the verdict? While there were a few tracks I couldn't get into, I did like the majority of the tracks. My main issue though, is that the cohesion is all over the place. The cover, title and the first track make it seem like the album is gonna go for some Halloween vibes. The actual tape however seems to go back and forth from early 2000's rap classics, to modern latin artists to mainstream pop and so on. There's still some good tracks on here (I legit really loved the Nena song even though I can't pronounce the title lmao), but as a whole I feel like the tape didn't have a clear sense of direction. Still though, big thanks to @Michael Myers for the mix and yeah.
FAVORITES: Watcher 2, Hustler Musik, the Nena song, Bring Me To Life
    Rating: 6.5/10

@Michael Myers - Halloween: Revival of Michael Myers

I'm absolutely shocked I never expected a Halloween mixtape from the Michael Myers him self, the man whose hole personality is based on horror movies.

That being said I respect you for trying to stick to a concept, most of previous mix tapes have not. Some absolute bangers on this, with a pinch of trash sprinkled on top.You could have pulled the theme execution off a better by making it darker, which I was hoping for. Some poppy songs didn't really fit the theme
Half a bonus points for picking my favourite Wayne song of all time

    6.5/10

    @jankland - Into The Jank-Verse REVIEW

    Score: 10.0 (16/16)

Sorry for the multiple delays on this review, was not as free the last few days as I had imagined. The build up has been worth it though, as Jankland has my first 10/10 given for Mixtape Mania, and my first overall 10/10 given in this thread! I enjoyed every single song! My jaw dropped when I heard Kendrick on Yeah Right, because I haven't listened to Big Fish Theory yet so congrats on being the first mixtape with a hidden feature that excited me like it was a brand new album. It was cool hearing MAVI again after Botiz suggested that great album he dropped last year for the 2024 bracket thread. Noname's track was dope too, and the closing 4 songs all hit as I expected them to. I think having the live version of Bartender added a lot as well. AMAZING tape Janky!

Stoked to get with the halloween energy with this mixtape from mr. Myers. Equally as stoked to show y’all what I have going on with my tape next sunday tho. I’ve been frantically choosing songs, putting them in an order that is appealing to my ears, and then switching up everything and starting anew for like a month now lol. Can’t stop swapping s--- out.

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 6/10

I haven’t been into Demi Lovato for a while but “Still Alive” was hard. Having “Bring Me To Life” before that was nice. I dislike “WTF Do I Know” and “Body Talks” for the same reasons: I don’t like the vocal performances, I find the melodies annoying, the songs lack oomph, and overall do nothing for me. “Rio” by J Balvin also does nothing for me really. Becky G with “La Respuesta” on the other hand was kinda cool I guess. “Irgendwie…” (sorry I’m not typing that whole song title) is an interesting 80s song, look I like a song in a different language than English and Spanish for once AHAHAHAHAHA (my sources detect it as German)!!!

You have some classics with “The Watcher 2” and “Hustler Musik”. I’m on the verge of liking “Cut the Bridge” by Linkin Park but something about it just can’t get me all the way there to liking it, it’s just okay to me. That’s how I could summarize a lot of this mixtape tbh.

I’ll be honest here there’s not much that moves me, impresses me, or gets me enthusiastic about this mixtape. But I can’t deny the quality of most of these songs is good and there’s more songs I like than dislike. It didn’t wow me but it’s a decent tape from Myers. @AOTWClub

    Into The Jankverse

White Room is a f---ing classic right off the hop, got no complaints about this one. 9/10

I love you, not sure how I feel about this one. I don't dislike it but I'm not sure I really like that much. The more i listened the more i liked it though so gonna go with a 6/10

Fell on black days, soundgarden has lots of great songs so I really enjoy this one. Heard it many times! 8/10

Nutshell, i like this one, it's a good slow burn song that I've gotta be in the right mood to listen too but definitely a song I've enjoyed in the past. 7/10

Bartender, is another slow burn song but a song I definitely like. Not usually a big live music fan but this sounds really good. 6.5/10

Simulation Swarm, never heard this but have no idea how i feel about it. Listened 3 times and im still undecided. Gonna give it a mid range rating 5/10

Georgia, I love Phoebes voice, and this song isn't bad. Not something I'd listen to often but definitely not a bad song. 6/10

Texas Blue is not really for me but I don't completely hate it or anything. Just not really the kind of song I gravitate towards. 4.5/10

Out of my hands, smooth song, I enjoy the production on this and how easy it is to listen too. 6.5/10

Rainforest, meh I dunno it's okay I guess. Not something I'd wanna listen to again. 4/10

Spoiled Brat isn't too bad, it's not really memorable for me 5/10

Yeah Right is a b-----r, love the production and Vince is on point. Listened to this song lots. Kendrick kills it too! 7.5/10

Everybodydies, not for me, Jesus f---ing christ lol 2/10

    Claws, f--- me 2/10

Search and destroy just sounds like a mess but almost sounds good after the last 2 songs. Just not what I like and I don't get it and feel old with these last few songs lol 3.5/10

Smb2l sounds incredible after these songs, i actually don't mind this one. 5/10

    Overall score: 5.5

I enjoy a good portion of this mixtape but don't enjoy a few of the songs so it brings my score down. Overall really Interesting mix of songs!

    Into the Jank-Verse Review

The first three tracks on this mixtape were probably my favorites, with Soundgarden standing out as the clear highlight.

I vibed with the Fontaines D.C. song, so I’ll be checking out more from that band. Out of My Hands was a solid track and I also found the last song on the mixtape enjoyable. I struggled to really connect with the rest of the project. Nothing really stood out as bad, just not what I was expecting. I hespek the musical variety and thought the mixtape flowed well together.

    Freddie Gibbs says Hi

    Here's the track by track:
    1. White Room- Cream is GOATed
    2. I Love You- pretty good. Not familiar with them beforehand. Vocals reminded me of Damon Albarn for some reason
    3. Fell on Black Days- Superunknown is an incredible album. Great track
    4. Nutshell- Great song from arguably my favorite band aside from the Beatles. Jar of Flies f---ing rules
    5. Bartender- I dig it, felt it was a tad bit long though
    6. Simulation Swarm- VERY good. I love her voice
    7. Georgia- Alright, but I’m more of a Kyoto guy when it comes to Phoebe
    8. TEXAS BLUE- I legit only know Quadeca from his KSI diss lmao. Idk why but the beat at the start reminded me of the Charlie Brown theme. Nice to see Kevin Abstract I guess, even though I haven’t kept up with him at all since the BROCKHAMPTON split (RIP)
    9. Out of My Hands- Nice, but not really my thing
    10. Rainforest- Great. She’s incredible. I should probably actually check out a Noname album. Maybe Telefone but not sure
    11. Spoiled Brat- Decent, but nothing I vibed with that much
    12. Yeah Right- Great track. I should probably check out Big Fish Theory after this time
    13. Everybody dies- a tad too zoomer for me :emoji_slight_frown:
    14. Claws- HIFN was my s--- during lockdown. Still a great track
    15. Search & destroy-Same thoughts as everybody dies tbh
    16. Smb2l- Good track, and good closer as well

Overall I enjoyed the mixtape. My favorite section was definitely the the rock section, with the rap section in second place. Big thanks to @jankland for the pick and yeah

    @jankland - Into the Jank-Verse

    review

To start off, I appreciated this approach of splitting the mixtape into genres. Variety is fun and this truly has something for everybody.

The first, rock section, was brilliant. Never heard Cream before but what is there to dislike when it comes to prime Clapton on the guitar, sharp drums and great vocals. Very catchy! I’ll have to check their work out.

This brings me to Fontaines DC, a band that I’ve been aware of for a long time now but, besides a song or two, never gave much attention to. I loved this track to bits! The vocalist has a great voice, and the track is immaculate in its structure. Great lyrics and post punk vibe. Saved the song for future listens. Will also finally stop delaying checking out their projects.

Whenever I see Soundgarden or Audioslave representation anywhere, I feel obliged to state the following fact: Chris Cornell is the best grunge vocalist of all time, and he is up there among the greatest rock singers OAT, too. Great song, classic s---. RIP Chris Cornell.

Nutshell was great. I love when rock/grunge bands lean into a more sensitive side and go semi-acoustic. Some great tunes are always bound to come out of this.

The acoustic/folk side of this mixtape was amazing as well. This live performance of Bartender took a few listens to grow on me but I really like it now. Very grandiose with intriguing imagery in lyrics.

My favorite has got to be the Big Thief track, Simulation Swarm. I love everything Adrianne Lenker. She is such a talented songwriter. Beautiful tune, its catchiness makes me wanna replay this Big Thief album again. I’d recommend anyone here who found themself enjoying Simulation Swarm to do the same and give the whole thing a try.

Georgia is not a bad song but I struggle with enjoying Phoebe Bridger’s music. It just isn’t my thing outside of her album Punisher which is a bit darker. Meh melodies.

The quadeca song took a while to click for me but when it did I started liking it a lot. I like the indietronic elements of quadeca’s work, very unique.

The GR€Y and Oddissee song kicked off the rap section. Now this was a great cut. Very vibey with smooth delivery and beat. Very good writing too. This is jazz-rap done right.

Noname’s songs can sometimes feel a bit preachy to me. I like this beat a lot and also her flow is butter; she can rap rap. Thing is though, the latter of the song permeates with a feeling of forced content. It’s like substance for the sake of substance. I’m all for rising up against billionaire scum and setting up new societal foundations but the way such ideas are portrayed here feels a tad cheesy and idealistic.

The Mavi track I enjoyed quite a bit, the Earl similarities are impeccable. Same goes for Yeah Right - I fw this project heavily. RIP Sophie.

As I mentioned ITT already, the Vince song provides an insane transition into the final part of the tape. I feel like this leg of the mixtape is farther from my own music taste genre-wise but I still liked most of it! All the songs chosen here were very approachable to someone like me who doesn’t partake in a lot of hyper pop.

Funeral was fun, I liked the breakdown & the climax as the song reached its ending.

The next song wasn’t my favorite Charli track but I did not mind it at all.

search&destroy was probably my favorite song in this last part. Grabbed me immediately. Very bouncy; a JID verse here would go hard tbh.

smb2l was an interesting choice for the closer, I liked the vocal performance but felt like the instrumental was kind of forgettable.

All in all, this mixtape had some insanely high highs and was very consistent in how well it was put together. I enjoyed almost everything but to a different degree. Even the songs that weren’t my favorite were high quality stuff that I would be more than fine with hearing whenever. Great mixtape, man!

    8.5/10

    INTO THE JANK-VERSE

I had a hard time figuring out a theme that made any cohesive sense so I decided to abandon that and give you 4 different vague genres with 4 songs given to each! I've to the best of my abilities tried to transition from genre to genre as smoothly as possible to varying levels of success but it works in my brain lmao.

    SONGS 1-4 (Rock/Grunge):
    Cream - White Room
    Fontaines D.C. - I Love You
Soundgarden - Fell On Black Days
    Alice In Chains - Nutshell
    SONGS 5-8 (Acoustic/Indie)
Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Bartender (Live at Radio City Music Hall)
    Big Thief - Simulation Swarm
    Phoebe Bridgers - Georgia
    Quadeca - Texas Blue
    SONGS 9-12 (Rap)
GR€Y - Out Of My Hands (feat. Oddisee)
    Noname - Rainforest
    Mavi - Spoiled Brat
    Vince Staples - Yeah Right
    SONGS 13-16 (Hyperpop/Zoomer s---)
    Funeral - everybodydies
    Charli XCX - Claws
    Ericdoa - Search & Destroy
    Daine - smbl2

I hope everyone finds something to enjoy as I've tried to not flood it with a bunch of stuff that I usually talked about enjoying (with a few exceptions) and I figured this format would find a way to guarantee that at least some parts of the mixtape will be entertaining for everyone and the degrees of taste and musical interest. There is a ton of genres and artists that I've left out that I hope to get to at a later time in this thread!

Ngl the mixtape mania kind of made me excited for this group again

don’t get me wrong, AOTWClub was still fun and very special to the forum (and one of the main reasons I continued to stay active), but after awhile things start to get repetitive, especially when I’m in the midst of school! Everything needs something new and exciting every once in awhile, and I feel like you guys all feel the same. Mixtape Mania was and continues to be an amazing idea!

Getting ready for class while listening to a new mixtape every Friday has been a highlight of my week the last few weeks
