Every Roo Has Its Day Review

My enjoyment of this mixtape was about on par with the last one so I apologize in advance if the score ends up being low. There were a couple of tracks I found pretty decent. Everydog Has Its Day and I'm a Freak were definitely enjoyable but overall this one just wasn't for me. Given that Diggie and Roo both share very similar taste, I wasn’t too surprised by the playlist, though like it has been mentioned before, it's nice to have some variety in this group and even on albums or mixtapes you're not particularly fond of there's always new songs to discover.

Staying consistent with my rating from the last mixtape, I’d give this one a 5/10 as well.

    review

Before I start going track by track I’ll say that I found this mixtape very cohesive and pleasing to the ears; although not the most prevalent thing about these songs throughout, there is a feeling of mellowness a ton of the tracks on here bring (with the exception of the glaive songs of course). The mix is well put together, the tracks flowed nicely and the tape most definitely achieved a really cool subdued, yet powerful, atmosphere.

Strong opener with the Glaive track, I enjoyed it. Luckily I have trained my ears with a decade of Bright Eyes fanship and conditioned, or better yet, stockholm syndrome’d myself into fiending for tracks some people may find squealy or whiny. Great vocal performance here.

The kendrick song is fire, reminded me just how good MM&TBS is; will have to take my ears off of
GNX and bump it some more. Crazy how dense with lyricism and emotion this song and the album are.

The Clairo track was really cool too. I like her s--- but sometimes I get bored with her slower music, this is a nice change of pace. Very catchy with superb production.

Never heard this Denzel track but I enjoyed it a lot, love to hear more of his ‘fun’ music which isn’t as packed with technical stuff. The catchy chorus in combination with the wavy beat grabbed me immediately.

Sexy girl anthem was an okay song but not something I could listen to very often, I imagine it’d become grating.

The second Glaive track was cool. I liked the beat a lot. First time listening to this guy and the energy he brings is formidable. I prefer the first song but this one was pretty good too.

Juna was okay but honestly I prefered the material from both Charm and Immunity more; so this song was just fine and did a good job of keeping the vibes of the mixtape going.

6Lack track was better than the things I heard from him before, still though, I find myself kind of bored with his music.

World class sinner/ I’m a freak was very fun. Surprised by how good of a singer she is. This is some kinky/ horny s--- but I ain’t mad. Appreciate the absurd britpop feel of the production too, lmao.

Honestly liked the original of this Charli song a lot more than the remix, still fun but not as good as the album version, IMO.

O s--- it’s the guy featured on Imperial and TA1300. This was my introduction to his music but I liked his parts on the Denzel songs a lot - Black Balloons is a generational classic. Very good track from him, will have to check more of his s--- out, this was a real ear worm.

Haven’t heard a word from Miranda since the iCarly intro song lmao, not mad at this at all. Sometimes you just gotta bump some traditional, cheesy and feel-good pop music. Had fun with this lol.

Yes yes yes!!! Joji!! Been following this guy since the FF days lmao, first heard his music back in 2017 and loved the songs Demons and Will He. Lately he’s become kind of inconsistent imo but he always has atleast one classic single, in this case that is Run. Gorgeous track, the guitar solo just floats my boat jesus it gets me hard with the reverb’d vocals layered in the back of it. Sick song, great listening to it again. Also had a great music video.

Haven’t checked out the new Weeknd album yet somehow. This song got me hyped to listen, though. Very good - it is crazy how consistent this guy is for someone of his caliber.

The third Clairo song was sweet but you can definitely tell it is a demo. Needs a bit of a polish to be great. For how barebones the instrumental is I really like it.

There is something about these scandinavian guys who do music and their voices. The accent makes them sound like me when I wake up after a nighout where I smoked 40 cigarettes and drank 3 litres of white wine. Not hating on that, though - my mixtape has a song from this Danish band on it where the guy sounds hella unwell. Back to Lean: I like this song as a closer but think it went on for a bit too long. I get that him not having that much range in his voice is the appeal to many, but it gets a bit grueling after a minute or two for me.

    7.5/10

You assembled a very interesting and fun mixtape, man. cheers !

I’ll probably post my mixtape at midnight since it’s been ready for a while. No matter what scores it gets I’m pretty proud of it because all the songs flow together almost perfectly in my head and are sequenced in a way that really give me a dopamine rush. I think a lot of these songs make sense together thematically as well. I think some people will see what I mean.

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 10/10!!!!!!

This is my quickest and easiest review. I’ve basically heard all these songs long before and like them. DiggleDogg is the member of the group who probably has the closest music taste to me so I knew it would probably be like this. Luckily I do not have any of these songs on my playlist. I appreciate the Olivia and X representation.

Ending it with basically 3 slower/acoustic tracks was a nice touch. making the bed was always one of my favorites on GUTS, and what are you so afraid of was always one of my favorites on SKINS. Again like Justin’s mixtape I have no complaints and can’t think of any so I am forced to give this 10/10. I know it’s starting to seem like I’m handing out 10/10s but it is what it is :kanye3:Great mixtape and probably the one that aligns with my tastes most so far. @AOTWClub

    Trudeaupe mixtape review

I've enjoyed everything I've heard from Marilyn Manson so far, so if you have any album recommendations in the same vein as the album that was proposed for AOTW a while back, I’d be happy to check it out.

It was great to see some Southern rap. I really like Bun B and also having Xzibit’s recent track was a nice touch. it's definitely a b-----r. And course DMX is always welcome. The Ma$e and Beanie Sigel tracks were dope. Lisa was decent at first, but then it started to sound like Eminem for some reason. That last verse especially felt like it was written by Em.

The first 6 songs didn't grab me as much. That’s not to say they’re bad. I'm pretty selective with classic rock, There were a couple classics like Evil Woman and Running With the Devil. But I tend to appreciate that type of music more in a movie scene than as something I’d listen to on its own.

That said, all in all, it was a very solid tape.

    1. Wanted a strong intro, this felt right considering it was my fav album of 2024

    2. Obviously, had to have some Travis rep in here. Was trying to figure out what would work after a track like St. Chroma and ended up with THANK GOD. Love this track, and feel like it remains underrated in Trav's discog despite him performing it on tour.

    3. Also obviously, had to have some Em representation in here. I absolutely love this song, and it might be my favorite Em song if not top 5. There needs to be a convo about Sticky Fingaz doing better than Em on this song, because I go back and forth on who did better.

    4. This is one of those songs I get absolutely addicted to, then forget about, get addicted to, back and forth over and over and I'm back in the addicted phase so it earned a spot here, but it works perfect! RIP Takeoff.

    5. Loved this DOOM song for a bit now, and with me exploring his entire discog, I wanted to give it a highlight. Fantastic production and as usual, fantastic rapping from DOOM and also Kurious. RIP DOOM

    6. Favorite Yeat song and some of his best rapping performance by far, he absolutely flows on this s--- and kills the beat. Some of the best flows and rapping he has pulled off, I think the Yeat doubters on this forum will be impressed.

    7. KA$HDAMI, Tyler, and Ye are the artists who got me through 2021 and my junior year with their respective releases. You all very likely have not heard of DAMI but his 2021 run is NUTS. This is my favorite song by him by far.

    8. Just a vibe, felt like it fit in with Yeat and Dami. Great s---

    9. Been my fav off GNX since it dropped. This is better than tv off and squabble up i do not give a f---

    10. We begin to calm down here with a vibe from Carti and one of my favorites when I would be in the mood to spin my sad playlist. Haven't had to spin it for awhile luckily so this felt like a blast from the past, one of my fav Carti tracks by far

    11. We reviewed Destroyer a few months ago when I picked it, so I made the last minute decision to swap the album version with the live version when they played with an orchestra, put a spin on a great track!

    12. This song got me through so much, I f---ing love it. I broke my rule of not having an artist appear on here twice because I love the slight addition of the Tyler background vocals.

    13. Just a classic that I cannot get enough of. Felt right to put this here with all the piano representation at this point in the tracklist.

    14. This is my favorite from Olivia Rodrigo and I think people need to shine more light on it. I see NOBODY talk about it and it's such a shame. Beautiful singing and insane production.

    15. Ms. Swift herself finally makes an appearance in AOTWClub, with a cut from my favorite album of hers. One of my absolute favorite tracks off this amazing album and I think you all will enjoy it

    16. RIP X man, wanted to have him on the mixtape and thought this song would be a fantastic closing track. Can't believe it will be 7 years since he passed this year.

    Hope you all enjoy!

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 10/10!!!!!

I don’t have much to say about this tbh as I liked pretty much all the songs and have heard a lot of them before. Even the song “Lisa” I didn’t personally vibe with was still a good song. If I had to come up with complaints about this playlist I would have to pull them out of thin air so I really have nothing negative to say. A lot of these older songs remind me of my grandparents. This is an incredible playlist and I enjoyed it very much. @AOTWClub

    1.20.25 Review

Starts off with an absolute classic, mobb deep is one of my all time favorites, so definitely off to a strong start!

There's a really interesting mixed bag on this one too, just the Burzum-NIN- Alice in Chains threesome was a nice touch. The Burzum track was weird for me, didn't love it but liked it more and more as the song went on.

Not a big fan of Depeche Mode, Joy Division or Tom Waits songs but i also didn't hate them or anything. I've also never really been able to get into radio head.

I liked the Portishead song and the massive attack track . The angels of light song also surprised me because it's not really typical of what i like.

The DJ Shadow beat for organ donar is nice af, I loved that one.

DMX is one of my all time favorites so love that one too!

I loved heroin by the velvet underground but wasn't a big fan of the last 2 songs!

    Overall score: 6.5/10

Sorry, didn't have time for a full review, but listened to @Wreckless playlist few times.
Wanted to do a TBT but a quick one now:

I hate it when I don't understand the lyrics, so the french songs weren't really for me. However they did sound really cool so I think if u speak french it can be dope. The rock songs, LP one was great. The others I liked too except the screamy parts which isn't for me. But the rest of those songs were nice! Love how Boarding Pass was the opening on the plane lol.

Anyway, nice balanced PL and I did like most of it!

    Get Wreck’d

    review

Spent the last week with the nastiest flu of my life and had this playlist as the soundtrack of my physical misery. As my bodily temps reached levels almost as hot as Justin’s new girlfriend I came to the conclusion that this must’ve been the most challenging thing to put out into this club and recommend cause, not only is your whole s---, musically, being displayed for others to pick apart and grade; you’re also the first one to be doing it in order to premier this whole new thing we’re doing.

So kudos to you @Wreckless , God knows what kind of schizophrenic abomination I’ll assemble when my turn comes.

The switch from a fun, goofy Wiz song to a goated Linkin Park album cut told me all I needed to know about the type of variety I could expect from this. And I was only two tracks in. Momentum was good up until the reggae track which I wasn’t really feeling honestly.

Aside from Quebec Gold I wasn’t that huge about the French rap either, the genre kinda falls flat for me when I have no idea what’s being said. That being said, the Kavinsky track is a certified bop.

Enjoyed Someday quite a bit, very interesting song all around.

To sum it up, this mixtape had some real gems on it and some songs I found kinda forgettable. These were, though, by no means unlistenable… except for Kingston Town maybe. I had a good amount of fun listening to this as I recovered from whatever f---ing aids variety I was struck by.

ps. Still figuring out how I’ll be reviewing the mixtapes so excuse the messiness on this one.

    6/10

    Get Wreck'd review:

First mixtape, I'm already liking this idea. Just feels like a fresh and interesting way to rate music and check out artists we haven't listened too before.

Ill admit the eminem leaks really ruined my plan for this, I fully expected to have my review in for this last Monday as I had a 4 hour drive on my few day section 80 break but spent the drive listening to the eminem stuff (Gf and I broke up a few months ago so being the p---- i am i met a girl from a southern state online and she flew into see me lol so I was busy losing my American virginity for a few days I'm not bragging but f--- she's hot )

Anyways the music, there's a ton of diversity here which I love and why these mixtapes are gonna be fun. Right off the bat i really enjoy the first few songs, added them all to my liked playlist.

Not a huge reggae fan or French music fan, but i mean if you're French I could see the appeal it sounds smooth.

There was a few tracks on here that caught my attention and id never really listened to the artist before. "Night call" and "someday" were pleasant surprises.

I also really enjoyed the Lecrae track "all i need is you"

Overall i didn't love every song here, but i really appreciate the diversity and it's good to know @Wreckless likes a wide range of music rather than just sticking to the same old sound.

Not gonna reveal the tracklisting for my mixtape until tomorrow of course, but I wanted to give a quick heads up. I'm gonna share the Spotify link with the announcement, but for those who use other platforms, Track 15 might be a bit weird to find. It's a track from Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol 2, an album where all the tracks (aside from one) are numbered instead of having a proper track name. The track on the mixtape is known as either "#19" or "Stone In Focus". It got rereleased as a single last year, but most standard versions of the album have #19 as a completely different track (also known as Hexagon). If any of y'all are using Apple Music or any other method just know that the track's cover and length are like this

    @Wreckless Get Wreck'd - REVIEW

How I'm going to do the mixtape ratings will be different than the albums. Considering they are not meant to be built like projects and are more so playlists, I will take the amount of songs I liked and divide it by how many tracks, which leaves this mixtape with a score of...

    SCORE: 5.6 (9/16)

This mixtape had pretty much a 50/50 on songs I liked vs. songs I wasn't into. There were no AWFUL songs by any means, I was never itching to hit the skip button, just the songs I did not like/save to my collection weren't my cup of tea. Some of these songs have a potential to grow on me, so I hope you don't take the score of the mixtape personal! Extremely diverse mixtape, which I appreciate. There were songs on here that are out of the box for me musically like I really enjoyed! I was impressed by the range of songs on here, cool mix Wreckless!

SAVED SONGS: Boarding Pass, Don't Stay, Ready To Fall, Kingston Town, UNHALLOWED, Breaking Bad, L'an 40, Nightcall, All I Need Is You

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 6/10

This playlist has some diversity, that’s for sure. There’s rock, rap, reggae, electronic, etc. I imagine this playlist has something for almost everyone in the group. That’s a very thoughtful thing to do and could be great for some people.

The songs in my “Least Favorites” category are what lower my rating the most. They aren’t terrible songs but in most cases I either couldn’t vibe with them or there were things that bothered me about the songs. For example, I don’t like hook on “Lobby” at all as it’s very long-winded, and I don’t like the artist’s voice. I don’t like a lot of the vocal delivery on “Someday”, it almost goes into corny territory for me.

The songs in my “Favorites” category are mostly great. If I had to make a top 3 it would probably be:
    1. Nightcall
    2. UNHALLØWED
    3. Breaking Bad
“Nightcall” is a classic I’ve heard many times. I love the drama of “UNHALLØWED” and the suicidal lyrics. “Breaking Bad” contains a dope, chill beat and chorus along with smooth flows from Freddie. I also need to mention “The Beginning of the End” as it’s such a fitting and beautiful ending lol, the lyrics of the song even end with “the end”.

Overall, this is a decent or above average mixtape/playlist. For such a diverse project, this could’ve been a lot worse. There are more songs I liked than disliked so that’s awesome. @AOTWClub
