Jan 6, 2025 I heard Drake is taking over as Canadian prime minister. Kendrick beat him so bad he’s moving over to politics
Jan 6, 2025 @AOTWClub Smile 2- The Skye Riley EP I hated this movie, I didn't mind the music in the movie though. I find Naomi Scotts voice really solid but she also sounds somewhat generic. I really enjoyed Grieve You, both the lyrics and production aren't bad at all. New Brain was getting some hate but I don't hate it, it's not my favorite song by any means but the production is nice. I also feel like it sounds like most pop songs that blow up, so if it wasn't for a movie soundtrack and say Rihanna was singing it people would hype it up. Just my name isn't bad either, not my favorite song but it's fairly decent. Blood on white satin sounds like a rihanna knock off song Death of me isn't bad either Overall i don't find any songs on here bad, and I actually like Naomi Scotts voice Score: 6/10
Jan 6, 2025 d--- did not expect this! But yeah, the movie is about a pop star, so the songs are obviously kinda generic. What I like his how the lyrics forshadow and describe what Skye is going through. Especially New Brain, Just My Name, Blood and White Satin and Death Of Me. They fit the movie and character. Love all of those songs especially New Brain. And she's a good singer indeed. Glad u appreciated it more than the movie!
Jan 6, 2025 Skye Riley - Smile 2: The Skye Riley EP review I remember the rollout for the first Smile movie very clearly. The grinning goons they sent out to events helped build a particularly creepy atmosphere around the movie. At the time the marketing seemed genius, and honestly, in retrospect, it was very creative and a fresh approach to selling a movie. I rushed to employ my movie-going ritual of getting diabolically baked before entering the theater and buckling in for what seemed like it would be my first exposure to a newly emerged giant of the horror industry. It wasn’t that at all, though. The movie was a--- and my day was ruined. Two and a half years after the first movie, the second one came out. A friend bought tickets, and we said: f--- it. Let's see what this is about. The sequel, with its abhorrent ending, proved to somehow be even worse than the original. But the movie is not why we're here. Onto the title's popstar and protagonist - Skye Riley. Honestly, the story developed around this returning singer and her attempt to revitalize her career felt weird at first. It was as if the idea for this movie was born in the mind of a chronically online 16-year-old girl who tried fusing her two favorite interests: Lady Gaga and Cheesy horror narratives. Although the horror here was disturbingly lacking, one cannot deny Naomi Scott her flowers. She did all in her power to save this destined-to-be-a-trainwreck of a motion picture. This EP, although far from perfect, stood as the sole vanguard of entertainment during the heinous 2 hour and 12-minute runtime of Smile 2. It provided a brief oasis and sheltered the viewers from the disgustingly bad writing (Skye's best friend Gemma was out there talking about slurping on matcha while her friend was going through a schizophrenia-fueled narcoleptic episode). I cannot stress enough how terrible that character was. Her on-screen appearances made the scenes feel like brain rot. Back to the music! Naomi Scott, despite sounding like a Gaga knockoff at times, has much more personality on these tracks than I expected. True, her voice isn't unlike anything you've heard before, but it does the job. Her performances succeed in creating a great mix of eeriness and vulnerability; they're made more potent by the grand sonics of this project. I liked the production on this EP. It felt disorganized and messy in all the right ways. The chaotic style meshed well with Naomi Scott’s voice which provided brief tenderness and cut through the glitchy drones and distorted melodies like a knife would through hot butter. Although I’d cut the piano version of Just My Name from the track list, due to how bare-bones and low effort it sounded compared to the original, the 5 main tracks here are solid enough aesthetically to show for the existence of the character of Skye Riley. I don’t really listen to too much pop music, so I am not well equipped to talk about this album and the potential similarities it has when compared to modern pop acts. The Gaga influence is the only factor that I spotted right away - this could be due to Lady Gaga being one of the only acts ever to grace popular music that I’ve found enjoyable and authentic. Music like this is bound to wear its influences on its sleeve, and if so must be, I don’t mind if the homage is paid to Gaga. Her career was built on top of warped pop-rock instrumentals showered in heartfelt, yet distorted performances after all. My main gripe with these songs would be the at-times generic songwriting. It can start feeling lackluster and cliche, but it does quickly pick up. The whole EP is inoffensive and easy to listen to, with the last two tracks being the ones I’m the least crazy about. I honestly enjoyed both New Brain and Blood on White Satin. These songs provide enough ear candy for them to be worth your time, IMO! I also quite liked how much space there is in Just My Name. The song is very atmospheric the way it’s structured is a show of ambition much larger than anything else I’ve seen in the movie that this track was made to accompany. 6.5/10 @AOTWClub
Jan 6, 2025 Hahaha sorry man, atleast this ep came out of the movie so there’s something for everybody.
Jan 6, 2025 @AOTWClub Smile 2: The Skye Riley EP This one will be short. Nothing much to say about it other than interesting choice to go with an EP of some random forgettable movie lol I think the songs were pretty good. Best: Grieved You, Blood On White Satin, Death Of Me Worst: New Brain 6.5/10
Jan 6, 2025 Liking everyone’s posts about the movie being mid, bad, or forgettable when I liked the movie
Jan 6, 2025 @AOTWClub Smile 2: The Skye Riley EP Never heard of the movie and movie sound tracks are usually trash. This was decent, the music wasn't bad or anything but nothing stood out. I would never choose to listen to this again. It's hard writing review this 2 hours later because I pretty much forgot what any of the songs sounded like. I guess that means this allbum sits somewhere in the midaverse. 4/10
Jan 7, 2025 Nahh man. It literally has amazing scores on Imdb and RT as far as audience goes (like, around 80% liking it and a 7 or something average). So the majority loves it bro. But thats the gr8 thing about this group; so many different tastes in everything lol
Jan 8, 2025 Silver Jews - American Water Favorite tracks: Random Rules, Federal Dust, People, Blue Arrangements RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 7/10 The instrumentals are killer with catchy guitar riffs on songs like “Buckingham Rabbit”. The singer’s voice is unorthodox and calm yet has a tiredness to it at the same time. A lot of the lyrics are creative, eccentric, and even poetic. I don’t wanna ruin it for anybody, but the lyrics on “The Wild Kindness” are lowkey deep. I also liked the line “I am the trick my mother played on the world” on “Send in the Clouds”, it honestly feels like a line I would write. Not to mention the choruses are almost always catchy, memorable, and explosive. In the second half of the album I started to lose a bit of interest though. The songs, while still being decent, kinda started to feel a little too similar to each other for me. Plus, the singer’s voice just isn’t something I’d always be in the mood for, it can get a little draining after a while. I should also mention, while not being a bad song, I didn’t enjoy “Like Like the the the Death” all that much. Overall though it’s a good album and an album others probably find to be great. Thanks for reading. @AOTWClub
