Mar 14, 2025 The weeknd collab. First off because I like the Weeknd obviously. But first I thought it was another guest rapping the verses... because it sounded okay. Then I googled and found out it was actually Carti and he CAN rap normally without sounding like a f---ing r----- lmao. Gonna finish the majority later and relisten ofc but first tonight skux tape
Mar 14, 2025 It's funny when WLR dropped I hated the baby voice s--- and now that Carti is doing a deep voice I find myself liking the baby voice lmao. Backdoor is peak

Mar 14, 2025 pop out maybe my fav song on the album, reminded me of hearing On Sight or Rockstar Made for the first time where I didn't know wtf I was listening to but I knew it was gonna be a historic album
Mar 14, 2025 appreciate that @Michael Myers voted yes on the poll even if his stinky dutch DNA prevents him from enjoying carti, that's what album/book/movie clubs are all about is expanding your horizon
Mar 14, 2025 Playboi Carti - MUSIC review Had a lot of time to bump the new Carti today and I feel like I am ready as ever to write my review. Honestly, Carti to me is an artist with great potential. He isn’t exactly what I usually listen to but I cannot deny that he has made dozens and dozens of classic, energetic songs. Sometimes his style just clicks and specific songs go crazy hard in the moment lol, s----s tend to sound like they belong on a video game soundtrack of sorts. I feel like it is the same exact scenario every time carti drops, opinions will radically shift within 1 or 2 months and this album will be considered a classic by his cult following. I don’t even say that in a negative way, it is cool when music is given time to grow and age - it shouldn’t be a black and white scenario after all. When I look back at this album in the future I’ll probably have its horrid f---ing release and copium inducing delays etched permanently into my brain. It is like Carti, his team, and the label as well, actively worked toward committing genocide over whatever hype this album was getting when it was first teased. And it was massive hype. In my opinion, he should’ve compiled 10ish bangers and struck while the iron was still hot - akka, drop a year or two after WLR. The reason I’m formatting my review like this instead of talking in depth about the songs is that it is really difficult to try and textually do justice to any 30 tracks, especially to Carti’s because his s--- is just different lol - hard to have have a traditional review. I’ve been lucky to have the time today to listen to the whole thing almost 4 times and as an album it just did not do it for me. The songs I genuinely enjoyed on this album were: Crush, Mojo jojo, Philly, Crank, Cocaine Noise, Hba, and Good Credit. There are some pretty hard tracks on here but none of them, IMO, go as hard as my favorites off of Die Lit. That album was a kind of ‘lightning in the bottle’ moment I guess, it is hard for a style such as his to both be consistent and to mature well. What turned me off from this album is, for starters, the 30 song tracklist. Carti is not your typical LP artist, atleast to me. When I play his music I rarely do it by playing whole albums. To me he is an excellent playlist rapper. It is my opinion that it’s impossible for a 30 song album to be consistently good. Carti’s I am Music is obvious proof of this. A lot of the tracks blend into one another, it is all over the place. The beats often sound unfinished, like they were made in 15 minutes and mixed with an aliexpress stereo system. Not that crazy about the voice change either lol. Somebody said that Carti, on this album, sounds like biden on fent - and d---, I can hear it. The good songs on here are somewhat well spread out but it is not easy to save a 30 song album once mediocre tracks start lining up. I was pretty hyped for this project, but perhaps I’ve screwed myself by hoping for something spacier and more potent. I leave now to cleanse my ears with this great mixtape from Allis, going to write a review on it soon. Wanted to do that today but then this dropped and I had to set it aside for a bit cause ‘the upcoming Carti album’ was lowkey mythologized during these past few years. I’m not that impressed with it. Carti surely has something better and more refined than this in him. 4.5/10 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau
Mar 14, 2025 @Jimmy Jazz good thoughtful review even tho I love the album personally. There are two things I really disagree with, however, which funnily enough don't have all that much to do with the music itself: Carti has a huge cult following/loyal fan base that's stayed hyped throughout the past four years — if anything I'd say the hype has only increased. I don't think there's such thing as striking while the iron is hot when it comes to making art, an album is going to be ready when it's ready whether it takes four months or four years. I think one of Carti's greatest strengths is creating a holistic body of work. I personally place great value in the album as an art form and the sequencing etc that goes into them, and all his albums showcase that to me. That's part of why I think his albums typically take longer than your average rapper to complete, because he wants it to be a singular work, not just a collection of songs. Out of curiosity, what would you rate his other three albums out of ten?
Mar 14, 2025 Listening to artists you've already explored and dislike isn't expanding your horizons, it's self-inflicted torture. Expansion comes from discovering new, unknown artists.
Mar 14, 2025 Cool to see such a different outlook on Carti and his music. I really do struggle with grasping his albums as purposeful bodies of work sometimes. Maybe it is the way my brain is wired or something but his releases often sound pretty disjointed and chaotic to me. Maybe I need to try and think more outside of the box? Before this album I only heard his self titled, which I’d give like a 5.5/10, Die Lit, which is like an 8/10 for me but it is closer to a 9 than to a 7. WLR was a weird album because it grew on me a lot in the last year or two. I’d give it like a 6.5/10.
Mar 15, 2025 also an example of expanding your horizons. but so is being willing to give an artist another chance when they drop a new album, esp with an artist who's pushing a genre forward with every release like carti. you've never had an artist who you didn't like until they dropped a specific project? For example I couldn't get into Future until Monster dropped and once that clicked with me I was able to go back and get into his older stuff. Or sometimes you just end up liking just one specific album from an artist. Or even just a couple songs. I've never liked J Cole but I still will listen to his albums at least once. Went into his label album (Revenge of the Dreamers III) thinking I'd listen to it once and never again but ended up loving it and still listen to certain songs from it to this day. not saying this will necessarily happen with carti for Michael Myers. but I think it's the very definition of wanting to expand your horizons by being willing to go into a new album by an artist you historically don't like with an open mind.
