Even though I’m happy with how 1.20.25 came out, I kinda wish I tried something different. I feel like most of the tapes did a great job at showcasing each poster’s music tastes while I just went super dark and gloomy for some reason

Your mixtape was good. Don't be too hard on yourself, they all turned out pretty solid for a first round.

The theme approach was a dope idea tbh. It actually makes things easier when picking songs.

This time I won't be mad if my tape gets a low score because I've put real thought into it. It won't be something I wish I could've done better.

Putting basically every song I can think of in the vibe I want to do in a big playlist before I start trimming down, I'm mostly taking from one decade but I feel like I'm already cooking ngl.

Okay, so with all the banter the last few years, the dude actually dropped an album. It was fun to call him trash and joke around.
But AOTW club is no joke. It's no game. It's serious business. So all bs aside I'm going to share my honest thoughts on 'I Am Music'

I will say this first; it's definitely interesting. Sometimes albums are so boring that there isn't much to say and tbh a bad album >> a boring one when it comes to reviewing them.

There are a few things on here that I definitely like, so there's that. But also a lot of s--- that makes me think this whole Carti praise is just an inside joke you guys aren't letting me in on lol.

It's f---ing 30 tracks, jezus... but here we go track by track:

Pop Out - when I first heard this I was so scared it was gonna be like this for 30 tracks. Fortunately this wasn't the case, because this is just unlistenable to me. It sounds like they gave a r----- a mic and he just spouts some words and adlibs over messy production. Awful song. 1/10

    - note, it isn't all gonna be like this I promise!

Crush - the production is fire as f--- here. And as someone said in the discussion thread the 'shawty don't make me crush' part is so catchy, especially the choir singing it. The whole time I was waiting for the song to take off but it sounds like just one (very) long intro.... it is 2 minutes of Carti saying cheah and Travis saying straight up. Then Carti has a small verse, which I think is fine. But man this had so much potential that they wasted by making this more an intro than an actual song. 6.5/10

K POP - it's short, and it's okay. No lame adlibs ur using the dying dogg voice, flow is fine. I don't mind this. 6/10

Evil J0rdan - the intro is fantastic. I already agreed with @DKC on that. The production is fire in general tbh. I actually think Carti's verse isn't bad either I like most of it. They need to tell that dude to shut the f--- up copying DJ Khaled though lol. 7/10

Mojo Jojo - it was fun hearing Kendrick do something different than rapping like he is getting the slaves free, but this whole Migos style (adlib after every f---ing line) annoys me a lot. Not a bad song really but yeah no. 5/10

Philly - I am usually not a Travis fan, but hearing him here was a nice surprise. Production is fire! Carti also has a pretty normal verse too, he doesn't ruin it. Solid song! 7/10

Radar - if it was just the verse and hook it would have been fine. But the constant SWAMP!!! And CARTI!!! screams by that annoying DJ ruin this for me. He also uses that s-----y voice some parts. Keep 3/10

Rather Lie - so yeah I am a fan of the Weeknd. And I was so scared Carti was gonna ruin this with weird voices and adlibs but he chose to rap more traditionally here. Okay guys, I love this song and already played this 10 times this week(e)nd. 9/10

Fine s--- - nothing special, nothing bad. Not much to say about this really. 5/10

Backdoor - kendrick and jhené are fine here I like their parts. Carti's constant sheah or whatever he says is so annoying during his verses. Song is okay but not really because of him. 6/10

Toxic - Carti doing a Future impression lol. Too much mumble s--- for me. Skepta's verse is kinda dope I like that. 4/10

Munyun - SHEA SHEA.. SWAMP IZZO SWAMP IZZO. This is not a mixtape f--- off lol 2/10

Crank - the beat is pretty cool and if it wasn't for the (again) annoying DJ bs this would have been okay-ish. Little better than Munyun though. 4/10

Charge them hoes a fee - this beat is so good man. But Future sounds so bored and the hook is so f---ing lazy.. and its literally twice in a row repeating the same sentence 8 times. Carti's verse is decent I guess and same w Travis but their verses are so short and most of the song is just them repeating the same line. Good and motivated rappers could have killed this beat tbh. 5/10

Good Credit - I like this one more than the other collab. Carti is fine and Kendricks verse is fun. 6.5/10

I seeee you baby boy - lol. 1/10

Wake up filthy - such a chore to get through. 3/10

Jumpin - awful lol both of them. So lazy and boring 2/10

Trim - well Future brings a lot more energy than the previous track he's on I like his verse!
Second half is f---ing trash though w the annoying DJ. 3/10

Cociane Nose - this beat is fire as f---. Carti's verse is kinda okay-ish if it wasn't for the constant faggy seah s--- or whatever he says all over this album. 4/10

We Need All Tha Vibes - yeah so a song that barely has Carti on it, and Thug/TY sounding great. Such a fun and catchy song. Carti's little part is whatever, doesn't ruin it. 7.5/10

Olympian - first half I kinda enjoy, dope beat too. Second half seahseahseah 3/10

OPM Baby - seahseah swamp izzo 1/10

Lil Uzi Vert - it is so ironic that I'm not a fan of Uzi at all but he is kinda fine here, and another Carti-less song I like lol. Fun beat, fun little song. 7/10

Like Weezy - what a great beat and sample, love it. The sheas and swamp izzo bs is kept to a minimum too. I kinda like this song. 6/10

Dis1 Got It - hook is lame as f--- but I kinda like the verse. Its short and harmless 5/10

Walk - Carti doing Future style. No sheas and swamp izzo during the verse, dope as f--- beat too. I dig it 6/10

HBA - okay I guess, the constant pauses are a bit lame but it's not offensive. 4.5/10

Overly - a fun beat not done justice with some weird s---. Not the worst song though 3/10

South Atlanta Baby - decent closer. Dope beat and this comes close to an actual longer verse for once. 5.5/10

Jezus christ. This was waay waay waay too long. Honestly, there's a 12 song project in here that I would actually give a decent score too.

See, it's obvious: my favorite parts of this album are either by other artists, or when Carti raps the most 'normal' / in a traditional way like on Rather Lie. You could also say that I prefer the safe songs on here.
But if he would always rap like this he would not stand out in any way, so I definitely understand that he tries some different s--- even if its not for everyone.
It says it all that the Carti fans like Pop Out and other songs I dislike, and find the more safe/'normal' songs to be the least interesting.

The conclusion is that I actually enjoyed listening to this, except it's length. The last 5 or 6 songs I was so done every time. But I went from hating a song, to liking a song, back and forth. It was fun.
Am I a Carti fan now? No, sorry @Yeez
But I am a little less of a hater than I was before. And yes, that is still mostly because of the production and guests, but hey I also liked some of the solo songs/Carti verses. Rated quite a few solo songs (above) average! Just not the extreme weirdo s--- some of you guys enjoy lmao.

Side question; don't you guys think the swamp izzo and syeah s--- is f---ing annoying?? It ruined several songs for me even if that doesn't mean I would really like them otherwise. But it makes this sound like a mixtape lol.
Still, cut this album in half, especially most of the second half....

Average rating ; 4.7. :notbad: :notbad:
