Sep 23, 2024 I just threw all the songs from the albums (not selected by me) from this thread that I put a like on into a playlist on Spotify. Not including this week's album, the total comes out to 189 songs and 11hr 44min. That is insane and so much music already. Once again, that doesn't even include Krit's album, Trav's album, and songs that I didn't like and it is still that lengthy. Love all the new music I have discovered from this!
Sep 23, 2024 Marilyn Manson - Eat Me, Drink Me review Eat Me, Drink Me marks a noticeable shift for Marilyn Manson's career. It showcases his more personal and reflective side. The album came out following his divorce, and you can really feel that emotional weight throughout the album. Unlike his earlier albums—full of rage, rebellion, and social commentary—this one deals with much more introspective themes. The sound is different, too. It’s less in-your-face, more toned down, with a bluesy, gothic rock vibe that leans heavily on guitars. Songs like “If I Was Your Vampire” and “Putting Holes in Happiness” stand out because of their dark, romantic feel, with slower tempos that brood rather than attack. Even Manson’s voice sounds different here—it's raw, maybe even a bit weary, as if he’s pouring all of his personal struggles into every note. There’s a vulnerability in his voice that wasn’t as clear in his earlier music. But with this new direction comes some drawbacks. While the emotional lyrics and softer sound might resonate with some, it doesn’t quite pack the same punch as the chaotic style he's known for. A few songs start to blur together, and at times the pacing drags, making the album feel a little longer than it is. Tracks like “Heart-Shaped Glasses” are more upbeat and catchy, but they also run the risk of sounding a bit too polished for someone like Manson, who built a career on pushing boundaries. For those who fell in love with his heavier, industrial sound, this album might feel like it's holding back. To me, though, I find this project very interesting both sonically and lyrically. His performances on this thing are excellent too. I don't really listen to as much of his music as I used to, yet I am glad this project was picked; nobody can deny that this album goes hard as f--- when it wants to. Manson just has a way with those sweet, sweet guitars. Although, to me, this allbum will not be remembered as a defining moment in Manson's career due to how inconsistent it is at times, it is still well worth listening to just going off of the project's enormous emotional depth and intriguing production. 7/10 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau
Sep 24, 2024 @AOTWClub Marilyn Manson- Eat Me, Drink Me scored a 7.2 I updated the main page Only 7 Reviews, if we keep getting the same people doing Reviews regularly over and over im cutting down the schedule and we can do a more rapid rotation as I feel like the people contributing enjoy finding new music! Hope everyone enjoys @Ripper Roo 's album The Weeknd- House of Ballons
Sep 24, 2024 The Weeknd- House of Ballons I had heard this when it came out, but didn't really remember it. The Weeknd isn't a favorite of mine, not that he's not talented I just had never got the hype about him. I was honestly sure I'd give this album a 2. The production on this album is really solid and so are his vocals. I like the dark vibes on the album. I liked basically every song. Loft music, wicked games and high for this we're my favorites on my 2 listens. Id give this album a 7/10, I can see why people enjoyed this album now and feel like I didn't really give it a fair shake when I first listened too it! @AOTWClub @Ripper Roo
Sep 24, 2024 Glad to hear it bro, I had a feeling you would like this better. Wicked Games is one of his best songs
Sep 25, 2024 The Weeknd - House of Balloons The album that started it all. With how big the Weeknd is now, it's wild to think that there was a point where he was an underground artist who was making his buzz through mixtapes (the original Fantano review for this mixtape literally has him calling the Weeknd a "band" lmao). Thankfully, the record still holds up pretty d--- well. "High For This" is an incredible intro that not only has showcases Abel's vocal range, but also exhibits one of this project's strongest elements: The Production. The entire mixtape has such a dark atmosphere all throughout, which is exhibited pretty well in "What You Need" (that Aaliyah sample is integrated so well, I can't believe it was a decade before this version was on streaming). Then we have my favorite part of the record: the 3 track run of "HOB/GTG", "The Morning", and "Wicked Games". Illangelo's production is superb on these and Abel's voice is absolutely incredible. "The Party and the After Party" and "Coming Down" is great tracks as well. This might be an unpopular opinion, but the last 2 tracks, "Loft Music" and "The Knowing" might be my least favorite. They're not bad songs by any means, but I'd be lying if I said that I didn't prefer the rest of the mixtape over them. 14 years after it's release, House of Balloons has proven to be long lasting and very influential (Drake literally took 3 songs from these sessions for "Take Care"). Not only is it my favorite out of the mixtaoe trilogy, it might be my favorite Weeknd album right next to After Hours and Dawn FM. Big thanks to @Ripper Roo for recommending this record and yeah. FAVORITES: Basically the entire first half of the record LEAST FAVORITE: Loft Music RATING: 9/10 @AOTWClub
Sep 25, 2024 Great review, this is basically my thoughts on the project as well. The only difference is I like “The Knowing” more than you and think it’s an amazing outro lol. But I definitely agree with you that “Loft Music” is the weakest song on here. Funny thing actually when I hear him sing “Got a loft right now, you excited? You excited” I originally thought he was saying “you r-----ed? You r-----ed” and even though I know the right lyrics I still can’t unhear it to this day lmao
Sep 25, 2024 I want to start by saying that I’ve never been a fan of traditional singing styles. Artists like Lorde and Clairo just don’t resonate with me, which is why i've put off listening to the Weeknd for so long as I assumed they would fall into that category. I really prefer music with a stronger tempo. No matter how hard I try, songs that feature soft rhythms and slower singing tend to bore me to death 95% of time. Adele would be a good example of that. Now, back to this album. it definitely has more energy than the two artists mentioned above. The production is solid, and I enjoyed the vibe on tracks like "What You Need". I also liked "House of Balloons." However, the album still leans into that soft singing style and overall I didn’t really enjoy it. 5.5/10 @AOTWClub
Sep 25, 2024 Well maybe the next album I pick won’t have a softer singing style. In fact, I’m debating on making my next album a rap album. We’ll see though, I have a bunch of albums in mind. But honestly most of the time when I listen to music that doesn’t involve rapping, it involves this singing style. I don’t listen to a lot of hardcore music outside of rap tbh
Sep 25, 2024 If you ever choose something a bit more upbeat or with a stronger "kick" I’d be happy to give it a higher score. I don’t usually listen to pop and don’t have any on my playlist, I do enjoy some pop artists casually like Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, to name a few. Most of them create more energetic songs compared to the softer singing style you prefer. We all have our own weeks and get to choose what we like, I just wanted to share my reasoning behind my score.
Sep 25, 2024 Choosing an album isn’t easy. Some of us have been having these listening sessions for a long time before this thread so it eliminates many potential picks. I don't like picking albums that are too mainstream. Though the following were very strong candidates. System Of A Down - Toxcity AIice in Chains - Dirt Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists & Indestructible Akon - Konvicted Might be going full send on this next one even if there's a good chance it doesn't get a lot of reviews
Sep 25, 2024 I’m open to listening to anything no matter how weird, experimental, or non-mainstream it is. I like being introduced to music I don’t listen to a lot. Aside from Akon, I haven’t really listened to those bands you listed despite hearing about them and probably hearing one of their songs without realizing. So far I’ve just been picking artists and albums that mean a lot to me
Sep 25, 2024 You bring up a good point. If someone isn't into rock music it's likely they haven't heard those albums. Though these bands were very popular at some point. SOAD hasn’t released anything since 2005 and Disturbed really lost their momentum after the late 2000s. So I guess they’re not considered mainstream artists anymore. Lots of options still on the table both underground and mainstream.
Sep 25, 2024 Pepper your angus. My narrowed down picks for next round Spoiler Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway - Dictator (2018) Haunt - Burst into Flame (2018) Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache (2004) Shadows Fall - Fire From The Sky (2012) Soilwork - Figure Number Five (2003) Iced Earth - Dystopia (2011) As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us (2007) Staind - Break the Cycle (2001) Megadeth - The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! (2022) Manu Militari - Voix De Fait (2006) Puddle Of Mudd - Come Clean (2001) Seether - Karma and Effect (2005)
Sep 25, 2024 I would’ve gone absolutely wild if you had chosen Toxicity and especially Dirt. some of my favorite albums of all time. Can’t wait to see what you pick this time around
